Danielle Hunter, Texans agree to 1-year contract extension: Reports
The Houston Texans and defensive end Danielle Hunter have agreed to an extension that keeps him under contract through the 2026 season, according to multiple reports. NFL Network was the first to report the deal.
Hunter's extension is for one year and worth $35.6 million — making him the second-highest paid DE behind Myles Garrett, according to multiple reports. However, as part of the new deal, Hunter will receive a raise this season. Hunter's guaranteed salary for the 2025 season was originally $19 million, according to Over The Cap.

The 30-year-old is coming off his fifth Pro Bowl season and his sixth double-digit sack year in nine seasons. Hunter's 12 sacks were tied for the fifth-most in the league and led a Houston defense that ranked tied for fourth in sacks in 2024. Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., who was the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, have been the pass rushers to spark DeMeco Ryans' defense up front. The Texans will now have their two sack artists under contract together through the 2026 season.
Last offseason, Hunter joined the Texans after eight seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He signed a two-year, $49 million deal with $48 million guaranteed.
A third-round pick out of LSU in the 2015 NFL Draft, Hunter's 99 1/2 sacks are the fifth-most among active players. Since the start of the 2022 season, his 39 sacks are the fourth-highest total among all players.
Houston's deal with Hunter continues a busy offseason for the AFC South champions. Earlier in the week, the team agreed to a three-year extension with star cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. General manager Nick Caserio swung trades for wide receiver Christian Kirk and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The team also made a blockbuster deal to send offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders as Houston retools its offensive line. In its latest O-line move earlier Wednesday, the team agreed to a one-year deal with Cam Robinson.

Colts will induct late owner Jim Irsay into team's Ring of Honor during 2025 season opener
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Friday that longtime owner Jim Irsay will be inducted into the franchise's Ring of Honor during the team's season opener on Sept. 7. Irsay died on May 21 at the age of 65. He had been the team's principal owner and CEO since 1997, following the death of his father, Robert Irsay. At the time, he was the NFL's youngest owner at 37 years old. Advertisement During Jim Irsay's 28 years as principal owner, the Colts won 10 division titles, reached the postseason 16 times and got to two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XLI in 2006. Much of that success occurred with Peyton Manning at quarterback, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 1998 NFL Draft and played 13 seasons with the franchise. Manning is also in the team's Ring of Honor. The Colts made the announcement on June 13 to commemorate what would have been Irsay's 66th birthday. Irsay will be the 20th member of the Colts' Ring of Honor, joining his father who was the team's first inductee in 1996. "There was no bigger advocate for the Colts, the NFL, the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana than our dad, Jim Irsay," Irsay's daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson, said in an official statement. "It's only fitting that he now joins the other amazing Colts legends in our Ring of Honor who contributed so much to our franchise and our community over the past four decades." Earlier this week, the Colts announced that Irsay-Gordon, Foyt and Jackson will become the owners of the franchise. Irsay-Gordon will assume her father's role of CEO (and principal owner), with Foyt becoming executive vice president and Jackson taking the team's chief brand officer role, in addition to being the president of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation. New Orleans Saints urged to swing pricy trade for former Pro Bowl QB
All 32 teams are ramping up their offseason activity to prepare for their first mandatory practices of the summer. That includes the New Orleans Saints, who are still hunting for their next franchise quarterback. While second-round rookie Tyler Shough seemingly has the best chance of emerging as the starting QB in New Orleans, he's competing with two other recent draftees. In other words, there's not a lot of experience in the QB room. Advertisement The Saints are giving their young quarterbacks the opportunity to either sink or swim, but what if they realize a more competent arm with experience is what's needed in New Orleans this year? There could be a solution nearby. Specifically, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay believes it's worth a shot for the Saints to try trading for Kirk Cousins. 'New Orleans is running out of options to fix a QB room that consists of second-round rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. If the club wants to compete in 2025, it must swing a trade for Kirk Cousins—the last remaining proven veteran who is realistically available.' Bleacher Report on Kirk Cousins Kay's proposal sees the Saints swap Jake Haener plus a fifth-round pick in 2026 to go with a sixth-round pick in 2027 in exchange for Cousins. Of course, Cousins plays for one of the Saints' NFC South division rivals. Would the Atlanta Falcons even pick up the phone to negotiate a trade that sends a veteran quarterback to the Saints, especially with the understanding that Cousins could pass along key features of the offense? Advertisement The only way this trade could get done is if the Saints are willing to pay the bulk of Cousins' contract. If New Orleans gets desperate, why not consider adding a four-time Pro Bowl QB? Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly made ‘significant' T.J. Watt contract offer
As the Pittsburgh Steelers await a decision from Aaron Rodgers on whether or not he'll play for the club in 2025, the team is also working through things with edge rusher T.J. Watt. As the All-Pro defender skips organized team activities with the hopes of landing a new deal, Pittsburgh has reportedly put out an offer. During a recent episode of Kaboly and Mack, Steelers' reporter Mark Kaboly reported that there seems to be a 'pretty significant' contract offer on the table to Watt. 'I'm under the belief that there is a contract offer on the table right now, which is pretty significant.' Mark Kaboly on the Pittsburgh Steelers making a contract offer to T.J. Watt Advertisement Read More: Predicting when rookie QBs make first start, including Steelers' rookie T.J. Watt contract (Spotrac): $30.418 million cap hit in 2025, NFL free agent in 2026 Kaboly was then asked if Pittsburgh's reported proposal was 'Garrett money', reflecting the organization valuing Watt as worthy of becoming the highest-paid edge rusher in NFL history. The Steelers' reporter said he's not '100 percent sure on that', as the offer obviously hadn't been accepted by Watt. The Cleveland Browns made edge rusher Myles Garrett one of the highest-paid NFL players ever with a four-year, $160 million contract extension signed this offseason. Garrett's deal includes a record-breaking $123.5 million in guaranteed money, with $100 million paid out in the first three years of the deal. Related: Insider shares likely cost of T.J. Watt contract extension for Pittsburgh Steelers T.J. Watt stats: 27 QB hits, 19 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries Advertisement Until now, the signs haven't exactly been favorable regarding a potential deal. Watt's brother, J.J., said in March that the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year wouldn't give the team any form of a discount. A month later, Watt made a post on Instagram of himself holding up the peace sign as he walked off the field in a Steelers uniform. He also didn't report to voluntary OTAs this past week. The expectation remains that the two sides will eventually agree on a long-term deal, but it's already been a bit of a rocky process for the Steelers' organization. Watt is a free agent following the 2025 NFL season, but Pittsburgh would have the ability to use the franchise tag to prevent him from reaching NFL free agency.
