BSF jawan dragged into B'desh, returned hrs later
Berhampore: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was forcibly dragged into Bangladesh by a group of Bangladeshi nationals while he was questioning them near the Chandni Chowk border outpost in Suti Police Station area at the Malda-Murshidabad border on Wednesday morning.
The jawan — Shri Ganesh of the 71st Battalion — returned after a flag meeting between the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) around four hours later. Initially, it was alleged that the BSF jawan inadvertently crossed into Bangladesh while chasing suspected infiltrators. But a BSF enquiry later found that the jawan was in Indian territory when he was forcibly dragged to Bangladesh.
BSF sources said the jawan was detained by locals at Satrashiya village in the Chanpai-Nawabganj district of Bangladesh .
A video showed the jawan being tied to a banana tree and being verbally abused by a group of people. Some of them allegedly physically assaulted him, though others intervened to prevent further harm and handed him over to the BGB. BSF officials, however, denied that the jawan was assaulted.
A BSF official said: "The jawan was trying to maintain a humane approach and had thus allowed the Bangladeshi nationals to come closer to him considering them normal villagers. But they turned out to be criminals and they overpowered him and took him inside. We will take stern measures to prevent such incidents in the future." BSF officials said the jawan is unhurt.

Prasad, while talking to a TV channel, said that no Bharat Mata portrait has ever been acknowledged as the official or authorised version by the Constitution or any of the governments in power since independence. Live Events He further said that the portrait about to be used at the event was not carrying the Indian flag, but that of a political organisation, and therefore, it could not be honoured during a government event. The minister said that the particular political organisation and the Governor were free to pay homage to the portrait at private events, but it cannot be done in state government programmes. "We all have a political view, but those in constitutional positions have restrictions on how they express it," he added. He said that the government view was that such a stand ought not to have been taken by a constitutional establishment and expressed hope that it will be corrected by the concerned persons. After knowing Raj Bhavan's stand, the state government relocated the event to the Secretariat's Durbar Hall and the Raj Bhavan went ahead with its programme. Later, in a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan, the Governor said, "Whatever be the pressure, from whichever quarters, there will be no compromise whatsoever on Bharat Mata." In his speech at the Raj Bhavan programme, the Governor said two ministers--state Education Minister and Agriculture Minister--had agreed to attend the function but they did not turn up for the event. While Sangh outfit Bharatiya Vichara Kendram strongly backed the Governor, the ruling CPI(M) and the Congress criticised the Raj Bhavan on the matter.

Mumbai: A week after a 27-year-old man from Maharashtra was arrested in an alleged espionage case, it has now emerged how he spied for his Pakistani agents and the information that he shared with them. Ravi, a mechanical engineer based in Thane, had shared intelligence about Indian warships and submarines with his Pakistani handler. He had provided inputs about 14 Navy ships, out of which the inputs about five ships were accurate. For this, he received money from Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the police said. Ravi was "honey-trapped" by a Pakistani agent who had befriended him on Facebook, posing as a woman, officials had earlier said. He was found sharing sensitive information with the Pakistani operative through WhatsApp, officials said. Based on a tip-off, he was arrested on May 29 by the Thane unit of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. He has been charged with criminal conspiracy and relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act. Two others who were taken into custody along with him were left off after an inquiry. Indian agencies had heightened surveillance in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent India-Pakistan tensions. Over a dozen men and women have been arrested on charges of sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence operatives. This includes two influencers, travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra and YouTuber Jasbir Singh. Both had over a million subscribers on YouTube and had travelled to Pakistan multiple times. They are currently being probed. A student from Punjab and a security guard from Haryana are among others who face charges of leaking classified information across the border.

He said he approached then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee with a plan to downsize the airline to save it. According to Mr Mallya, his request was met with opposition. In a conversation with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Mr Mallya revisited the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines, attributing much of the airline's troubles to the 2008 global financial crisis. He said that Kingfisher Airlines operated smoothly until 2008, but the situation changed drastically with the onset of the global financial crisis. During the podcast, the liquor baron also addressed allegations around his financial dealings, claiming he made four settlement offers to banks that were rejected despite his clear intent to repay. He criticised the lack of transparency from banks, stating he never received a formal statement of account despite 15 reminders, and that the total debt of Rs 14,131.6 crore was only revealed through a finance minister's statement in Parliament. Citing a Debt Recovery Tribunal certificate, Mr Mallya disputed media reports of Rs 9,000 crore debt, insisting the documented figure is Rs 6,203 crore. He also questioned being labelled a 'chor' despite having repaid more than what was owed and said he is prepared to stand trial — not for wrongdoing, but for alleged bad intentions.
