
CHPS Mile 4 1/2 and Kuching High top wushu schools again
KUCHING (July 15): Chung Hua Mile 4 1/2 Primary School and SMK Kuching High lifted the primary school and secondary school titles respectively for the third consecutive year at the Kuching Division Wushu Championships on Sunday.
The two-day competition held at Aeon Mall Kuching Central saw Chung Hua Mile 4 1/2 on top with 37 gold, 27 silver and nine bronze medals followed by Chung Hua Primary School No. 3 (16-7-10) and Chung Hua Sungai Lubak (13-4-6), Chung Hua Primary School No. 1 (11-18-39) and Chung Hua Primary School Stapok (8-12-4).
The primary school champions earned more honours when Crystal Wee Yu Tang walked away with the Best Girl Athlete after she collected 24.818 points from winning golds in Girls Group B 1st International gunshu, daoshu and changquan.
The Best Boy performer was Ethan Yap Tai Xen who collected 254.806 points after winning golds in Boys Group B 1st International qiangshu, jianshu and changquan.
Meanwhile, SMK Kuching High proved unstoppable again amassing 18-4-1 to top the 12-team competition followed by SMK Jalan Arang (9-5-2), SMK Pending 4-0-0), Borneo International School (3-3-0) and SMK Sungai Tapang (3-2-0).
The Best Boy and Best Girl awards were won by Kho Kern An of SMK DPHA Gapor, who collected 24.920 points after bagging golds in Boys Group A 3rd International nangun, nanquan and nandao, and Sharene Kiu from SMK Sungai Maong who tallied 24.729 points after winning the golds in the Girls Group B nandao, nangun and optional nanquan.
A total of 208 athletes representing 36 kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools participated in the competition.
Member of Parliament for Stampin Chong Chieng Jen closed the event and gave away the prizes. He also handed over a grant of RM5,000 to Jun Lun Professional Wushu Training Centre for organising the tournament.

State Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Rosli Isa said the contribution aims to strengthen ties with charitable organisations while assisting the underprivileged. 'This time, we have donated RM10,000 to a charity body, Rumah Anak Yatim Al Aman, represented by its Chairman Saupin Samintah. 'It is one of the ways we build relationships with welfare bodies, especially orphanages, in order to help those in need,' he told reporters after officiating the 2025 Sabah Federal Departments Biannual Golf Tournament here on Sunday. Commenting on the tournament, Rosli said it served as a platform to foster camaraderie among Federal civil servants in Sabah, while encouraging a healthy lifestyle. 'This is a great avenue to strengthen the bond among civil servants from Federal departments in Sabah. 'When we get to know each other better, it becomes easier for us to cooperate and carry out our duties effectively. Pre-Sukma silat tourney ends in Miri
An intense battle during the finals. MIRI (July 29): The Pencak Silat Pra-Sukma Tournament held at Petronas Sports Village here drew to a close on Sunday morning. A total of 150 athletes, coaches and technical officials from Marudi, Sibuti, Niah and Miri were involved. The event, which was organised by Rumpun Silat Sarawak Wilayah Miri (RSSWM), served both as a platform to prepare for the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) and to strengthen ties between silat communities in the northern zone. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin commended organisers and participants for their commitment to silat and youth development. 'This tournament is not only a platform for selecting athletes to represent the state but also one that nurtures discipline, identity and fighting spirit among our youth,' he said. He also noted the encouraging participation of athletes from various ethnic backgrounds. 'This is a very good development. We want to see more of our youth participate, regardless of race or background,' he remarked. Meanwhile, RSSWM secretary Mohd Azahar Bujang reiterated that the tournament was not only a form of early preparation for the state silat contingent but also an opportunity to assess the progress of athletes, coaches and referees. 'This competition is very valuable in helping us see where we stand and where we can improve. It also serves to motivate our athletes to push themselves further,' he said. 'This kind of exposure will help both our athletes and coaches to better understand the level of competition expected at Sukma,' he added.
