Darren Waller's return is "tricky" with joint practices upcoming

Dolphins tight end Darren Waller remains on the active/physically unable to perform list after coming out of retirement. He is about a week away from working his way back into practice, coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday, but it's going to be "tricky" with joint practices upcoming. The Dolphins go against the Bears and Lions back-to-back. 'It's a little tricky because you're bringing a guy back, and is his first practice a joint practice?' McDaniel said Wednesday, via the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "So, it's about a week, but it's a little tricky in terms of what practice. We'll feel our way through that, and you're just trying to be smart with that.' Waller, who has not played since the 2023 season, has worked on the side in camp. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on WSVN this week that Waller will be ready for the start of the season. Waller is listed as the starting tight end on the Dolphins' initial depth chart.

Will Aaron Rodgers & DK Metcalf mesh in Pittsburgh?

Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice, NFL writer Charles McDonald and fantasy analyst Matt Harmon discuss how the Steelers' new quarterback-receiver pairing will fit together for the yellow and gold this season. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Pittsburgh Steelers went 10-7 last year, of course. They finished with a 10-7 record. You guys know who the head coach is? It's Mike Tomlin. This is what they do. They added a guy at quarterback named Aaron Rodgers, added DK Metcalf, traded for him, and got rid of George Pickens. But the Steelers' offense, Charles, I'm gonna let you have the first take. I'm gonna let you bat lead off here. What are you focusing on with the Pittsburgh Steelers offense? It all just depends on how Aaron Rodgers and Arthur Smith mesh, because Aaron Rodgers is 40. He doesn't really move. Last year they had Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. I just don't understand how the marriage is supposed to work from a quarterback to play caller standpoint. I think the talent is just good enough. Maybe they could have a watchable season on offense, but if DK Metcalf gets hurt, even a little, it's 2025. I'm about to say if Robert Woods gets hurt, you're in a bad spot. DK Metcalf is coming off his worst season. Like he has a 10th percentile success rate versus zone coverage last year. He was not great at separating against man coverage, which is not as good as usual, and his contested catch rate was a career low. So, again, I don't even love the idea of trading a guy coming off his worst season and paying him $33 million a year, and now Terry McLaurin is pissed about that because he's been a better player throughout the course of his career, the whole thing. But I was like, all right, if this is gonna work for the Steelers, it's because one thing DK can do is run those deep and breaking routes. That Arthur Smith loves to do with his ex-receiver, but we have a guy that charts quarterbacks, Corey Kennon, reception perception. He noted that Rodgers' worst throws last year from an accuracy standpoint were digs and posts. And I read that in his write-up. I went and charted Garrett Wilson and the like, they didn't have him run a lot of digs because of course the Rodgers offense does not run a lot of digs. It's go routes, slant routes, and those little access throws and stuff. Consistently, the ball is behind Garrett Wilson when he's running open in the middle of the field. This is chunk 2 of 2. Please provide the next chunk to continue. field, so I don't even know if the thing that DK Metcalf would fit best into this offense doing from a past game standpoint, is really what Rogers does well at this stage. So, I just, I don't know, there's a, there's a lot of question marks for a team, um, where again, it's just it's always question marks on this side of the ball. I don't really see a lot of solutions here. Close

'Jerome Myles is already turning heads': TexAgs provides insight on Texas A&M freshman WR

Texas A&M's 2025 signing class includes five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, who enters the program after enduring a season-ending injury after just a handful of games during his 2024 season. An outstanding athlete with immense potential, the learning curve for any freshman is vast once their first collegiate fall camp begins, but for those on the inside, even more so than us, TexAgs co-owner Billy Liucci provided some insight regarding the freshman's progress this summer. "It's going to be harder because of where he came from, meaning the knee injury, and he wasn't here this spring" Liucci stated. "Marco Jones is here in spring and, non only his spring offseason but spring football and 15 practices with pads on, so that's always a big advantage for any freshman coming in that hopes to play at some disatvange when you can. Freshman edge Marco Jones is certainly a name to watch this fall as a potential name to watch among a relatively new edge rotation after his impressive spring game performance, accounting for nearly every defensive sack and tackle for loss on the day. However, the transition to playing wide receiver at the college level is tougher from a scheme perspective, but it sounds like Jerome Myles will be a name to watch once fall camp begins next month. "With that said, Jerome Myles is already turning heads. I think I mentioned this yesterday: He's 225-plus pounds and running among the fastest times by the data out there, 21-22 miles per hour, so he's really fast for a guy his size, and its turning heads as a wide receiver already." Earlier this year, ESPN writers Tom Luginbill and Craig Haubert proffessed similar praise for Jerome Myles' skillset, sharing Liucci's opinion that he is one of the top athletes at his size, and could end up become an immediate downfield threat if he learns the playbook and has a similiar rise to Alabama WR Ryan Williams, who shined during his 2024 freshman campaign. "Myles is a unique prospect. There are plenty of tall, big targets who lack great speed and quickness because of their size. Conversely, plenty of undersized receivers have great speed. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Myles combines both. He's a 50-50 jump ball weapon because of height and wingspan who also has rare speed and acceleration to pose a vertical threat at the same time. His speed is remarkable for his size. He ran a 10.36 100-meter dash, a 4.48 laser-timed 40-yard dash and posted a Max Speed of 20.4 mph. Texas A&M's wide receiver room is loaded with quality transfers and wide-open competition. Expect Myles to fit right in." A teammate of current 2026 4-star QB commit Helaman Casuga, Myles reeled in 18 touchdowns and 1,431 receiving yards over his last three seasons at Corner Canyon HS.
