Napoli 'make contact' with Liverpool over Darwin Nunez transfer, but Man United star also features on 'Antonio Conte's three-man striker shortlist'

Daily Maila day ago

Napoli are reportedly targeting Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez for a summer move.
The Reds broke their transfer record to sign Nunez from Benfica for £85million in 2022 but he is ready to leave Anfield after a lack of starting opportunities under Arne Slot.
The 25-year-old scored seven times last season as Liverpool wrapped up the Premier League title and he is contracted until 2028.
Saudi side Al-Nassr previously made enquiries to sign the Uruguay international in January and were prepared to offer £70m but Liverpool were unwilling to listen at that stage as their focus was on winning the league title.
The Italian champions are now pushing for his signature as they look to become less reliant on Romelu Lukaku, and have made contact with the striker, according to Football Italia.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is looking to strenghthen his Napoli side as they look to retain the league next season and compete in the latter stages of the Champions League.
The Naples outfit have also reportedly identified Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund or Udinese forward Lorenzo Lucca as alternatives.
Hojlund's contract also does not expire until June 2028 with an option for a further year but his Old Trafford appears uncertain.
The Dane cost United £64m plus a further £8m in potential add-ons when he made the move from Atalanta in August 2023.
However, he has struggled to live up to that price-tag, managing just four goals in 32 Premier League games last season.
Speaking after Denmark's 2-1 friendly victory over Northern Ireland on Saturday night, he told TV 2 Sport: 'I have a contract [until 2028], so I expect to play for Manchester United.
'I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway.
'I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United.
'I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season.'
Ruben Amorim's side are in the market for a new striker and will listen to suitable offers for Hojlund.
Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is also being hunted by Napoli.
The 25-year-old joined Chelsea's academy in 2007 and made his international debut on Tuesday night as England fell to a 3-1 defeat to Senegal.
Chelsea slapped a £40million price tag on Chalobah in January, having valued him at £25m last summer.
Asked about his future, Chalobah, who has also played for Ipswich, Huddersfield, and Lorient, said: 'For me, I just have to focus on the now, leave all the noise out there that is surrounding me and my future.
Napoli are also closing in on a two-year deal for Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian will fly to Naples on Thursday for his medical and to take the formal steps needed to confirm his move from Manchester City.
De Bruyne is leaving the Etihad Stadium after 10 years of legendary service, with his contract up on June 30.

Jake Paul admits proposing to Jutta Leerdam was more nerve-wracking than any fight and he needed help of strong whiskey

JAKE PAUL revealed proposing to his partner Jutta Leerdam was more nerve-wracking than any fight - and he needed strong whiskey in his corner. The sports power couple went official in April 2024 and have gone from strength to strength since. 8 8 8 8 Paul popped the question in March during a romantic getaway in St. Lucia - getting down on one knee behind a beautiful lake background. And the YouTuber-turned-boxer - who has 11 wins in his 12 professional fights - admits no opponent has struck the same fear into him. After requiring some Dutch courage, he said: "By far I was way more nervous to propose than than for any fight. "So yeah, to all the men who are getting ready to propose, some whiskey before it's very helpful." Cruiserweight Paul began dating champion speedskater Jutta just months after his first and so far only loss - a split-decision defeat to Tommy Fury. And he revealed how the Dutch Winter Olympian helped him overcome the setback in the ring. The boxer became an uncle in September when brother Logan and Danish supermodel fiancee Nina Agdal welcomed baby daughter Esme into the world. Paul plans for kids of his own but has warned he will wait for Jutta to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. 8 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS The newly-engaged enjoy a long-distance relationship due to their training schedules - pitting them over 4,000 miles away from each other. Jutta, 26, is coached in her homeland of the Netherlands while Ohio-born Paul, 26, has relocated to Puerto Rico where he has a custom £3million gym. He has his team out with him in the Caribbean island - where he also lives in a £13m mansion - including the famously tough conditioning coach Larry Wade. Paul revealed: "His track workouts are absolutely brutal, long runs, sprinting. Not a lot of breaks. It's hot in Puerto Rico and muggy. "So you really find out who you are, like I said, in those moments and I just have that voice while I'm running that's wanting to quit but you just have to push through that. "And I think that's the art of fighting and in the ring you have those moments where your body is telling you to give up but you just have to push to the next round and keep going." Paul returns on June 28 in California against former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39, live on DAZN PPV. And he will do so back at cruiserweight having gone to heavyweight in November for his controversial clash with Mike Tyson - who made a comeback aged 58. Paul had hoped to capitalise on the 100 MILLION viewers he had tune in on Netflix by holding shocks talks to fight either Canelo Alvarez, 34, or Gervonta Davis, 30. But when both collapsed, he turned to Chavez, the son of Mexican icon Julio Cesar Sr who was also beaten on points by Canelo in 2017. Paul said: "I wanted the hardest and the biggest fights, which was first Canelo then Gervonta fell through. "And then at any given point in time we're negotiating or talking with five to six fighters to see who's down and ready to fight and making a date happen. "And after Canelo and Gervonta, we were talking to multiple people and Chavez was the one to step up, that made sense for me to stay active and get a fight in June. "So really it's just the long line and I just need more time but I'm gonna get to all of these names when the stars aligned." 8 8 8

Bradley Barcola and PSG respond to Liverpool interest in £100m transfer

Bradley Barcola is not interested in a move to Liverpool this summer with Paris Saint-Germain adamant he is not for sale. The 22-year-old enjoyed a sensational campaign in the French capital, helping the club finally clinch the Champions League with a wonderful return of 21 goals and 19 assists during the 2024-25 campaign. With PSG boasting perhaps the most exciting forward line in European football, Barcola was competing with Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a starting berth with one of that quartet usually left on the bench. Barcola was the unlucky man in the Champions League final against Inter earlier this month, still coming off the bench to grab an assist. While there has been no indication he is unhappy with the situation in Paris, reports have claimed Liverpool will look to tempt him to Merseyside in a £100million deal once they have wrapped up a deal for Florian Wirtz. The France international is also on Bayern Munich's radar with the German champions eager to freshen up their wide options. Both clubs are set to be disappointed, however. Foot Mercato report PSG have ruled out any possibility of Barcola leaving the club this summer with the youngster considered integral to the team by head coach Luis Enrique. Barcola is also eager to remain at PSG with both parties 'sharing the desire to continue the adventure together'. While Liverpool are making a sizeable investment in bringing Wirtz to the club for what will be a record Premier League fee, their summer transfer window is unlikely to end there. More Trending Another attacking option is being considered with Luis Diaz also thought to be eager to leave to join Barcelona. Liverpool are keen on an ambitious move for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, who Newcastle United value at over £150million. Arsenal have already thrown in the towel in their pursuit of the Swede with that price tag surely placing him out of Liverpool's reach too. Darwin Nunez is available for transfer and expected to leave, while Liverpool will also consider bids for Diogo Jota. Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals 'Agent Jude' Bellingham's role in the full-back's 'dream' move to Real Madrid from Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold has played down the magnitude of friend, and now team-mate, Jude Bellingham 's role in his mega move to Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold, who was snapped up by Los Blancos for £10million from Liverpool, was finally presented as a Galactico on Thursday, following months of uncertainty regarding his future. The full-back is known for having an extremely tight bond with Bellingham, with the dynamic duo becoming inseparable while on international duty with England. Many have referred to the midfielder as 'Agent Jude' as it became clear Alexander-Arnold was set for the Spanish capital, but the former Liverpool vice-captain has swatted away the notion that Bellingham played a big part in the transfer. 'We spoke, it wasn't exactly what people think it was,' Alexander-Arnold claimed. 'We spoke a lot about Liverpool and Madrid, they're the conversations you have as players and friends, you want to know what it's like. 'At the national team, he was the only player who knew what it was like to be at Real Madrid so a lot were asking questions. 'A lot of people think he played a big part in me coming here but it was a big opportunity for me and it felt like the right time.' Alexander-Arnold will be playing under new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, who adorned the red shirt of Liverpool, just like the defender, back when he was in the academy. And 'Trent', who has decided to plaster his first name on the back of his shirt instead of his last, spoke fondly of the man who he deems a hero of his childhood. 'I told him he was a big idol of mine growing up so to be able to work with him is a dream come true for me,' Alexander-Arnold continued. 'Someone who impacted my game a lot growing up, seeing him pass a ball influenced me to go and train harder at that and have a great hunger to be able to do that and set standards. 'Of course, we haven't formally met, but I'm sure over the next few days and weeks we'll be able to speak properly, what he expects from me. 'It might take some time but he has shown how amazing he is as a manager and a player. His knowledge is there in abundance and I'll be a sponge around him trying to learn.' Alexander-Arnold is embarking on a six-year deal with Los Blancos after being pried away from Liverpool a month early in order to play at the Club World Cup, which begins on Sunday. His decision to leave Merseyside after two decades was announced at the beginning of May, a week after Arne Slot's side secured their 20th League title against Tottenham Hotspur. When asked about his decision to leave his local area and begin a new venture in the Spanish capital, Alexander-Arnold - who has remained fairly tight-lipped the last 12 months - described how hard it was to leave the Reds. 'It was never a question of where - it was a question of whether to go,' he continued. 'But I've probably known for a long time that if I was to ever leave Liverpool, it would only be to go to Real Madrid. That would be the only club for me. 'It wasn't an easy decision because I'd been there so long but eventually you have to make a decision and in my mind, I've made the right one. 'I loved every single minute of it and achieved everything I wanted to. I'll forever be in debt to the club. 'But I thought it was the right moment, been there 20 years, achieving everything I wanted to, being the age I am, I feel I'm mature and experienced to be successful somewhere else. 'We had an amazing conversation in the last couple of days with the owners, thanking me in the service I gave to the club, wishing me good luck, and saying I'd always be welcome back. Sent off in the perfect way.'
