Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves broke down in tears during an emotional silence held for Diogo Jota, who tragically died on Thursday.
Neves was named in the starting line-up for Al-Hilal's clash against Fluminense at the FIFA Club World Cup, in the opening quarter-final match. Joao Cancelo also started, but both players were visibly emotional as they attempted to focus on soccer while dealing with grief.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died on Thursday in a car accident after the Lamborghini they were driving suffered a burst tire and swerved off the road. Jota was traveling back to the UK and was due to report to preseason training next week, ahead of his sixth season as a Liverpool player.

The tragedy has shocked the sports world, as Jota was 28 and entering the prime of his soccer career. The forward was an extremely popular athlete, who was adored by his Liverpool and Portugal teammates.

Jota celebrated his first Premier League title with Liverpool on May 25, and just two weeks later he lifted the UEFA Nations League for the second time with Portugal. Al-Hilal head coach Simone Inzhagi explained on Thursday that the news was extremely difficult to take for Neves and Cancelo.
"We all know it's a very sad day because of what happened to Diogo and André," Inzaghi said. "These things should never happen. We're all aware of the tragedy.

"We have two Portugal players Rúben Neves and João Cancelo who were friends to them. Today has been a very difficult day for all of us. We tried to work in the same way but the atmosphere was different. It's a very, very sad tragedy."

Jota and Cancelo were international teammates for six years, and they shared five seasons together in the Premier League. While Jota and Cancelo played for rival English teams, they shared a friendly off-field relationship.
The friendship between Jota and Neves was much deeper. After meeting in the youth team ranks internationally, Jota and Neves became domestic teammates for four straight seasons.

Jota joined FC Porto on loan for the 2016-17 season and shared the stage with Neves, before both players moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the same transfer window. Jota and Neves achieved promotion together with Wolves, and enjoyed two seasons together in the Premier League.

Liverpool then signed Jota in a deal worth $56 million on Sept. 19, 2020, but Neves stayed at Wolves for three more seasons until he departed for Al-Hilal. Jota was one of Neves' closest friends in soccer, and he wrote an emotional tribute on Thursday.
"Wherever you are, I know you'll read this," Neves wrote on Instagram. "We've never been that stupid and maybe now I regret it a little, but you know what you mean to me as much as I know what I mean to you.

"More than a friend, we're family, and we won't stop being that way just because you've decided to sign a contract a little further away from us! When I go to the national team, you'll continue to be by my side at the dinner table, on the bus, on the plane... you'll always be there with me, as usual.

"We'll continue to laugh, make plans, share our lives with each other. I'll make sure you're always there and I'll make sure your family never lacks anything while you're there, far away but thinking about us, waiting for us.
"Life brought us together and now it can't separate us. We've achieved beautiful things together, we still have a lot to achieve, I know we'll make it.
"Starting today, you'll enter the field with me, and we'll follow our path together, on the stage where we met. Diogoal, you are my favorite lemonade!!"

Diogo Jota was an inspiration and special tribute by Liverpool academy starlets prove it

Diogo Jota was an inspiration and special tribute by Liverpool academy starlets prove it It's still difficult to comprehend Diogo Jota is no longer with us. That he'll not be coming to pre-season and we'll never see him at Anfield ever again. The gravity of death is so final. It is that which hurts the most. Advertisement A tragedy has taken away Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, not just from us but from their colleagues, their friends, their teammates and most importantly their family. For them, this pain will be unbearable. We simply cannot imagine what they must be feeling at this time. The most important thing we can do is to give them the privacy to mourn their loss in their own space and environment without any intrusion. As a club, Liverpool will come together. We will remember and honour Jota's legacy. He was a special player but even more so he was a special man. Someone who helped out the community and who was an inspiration to us all. Advertisement A boy from Gondomar, who was never supposed to make it in professional football, let alone reach the heights of the Premier League and become a champion at Liverpool. Jota's journey from the bottom to the very pinnacle of the game is something that will and has inspired many young and aspiring footballers. He was the ultimate testament to what a professional footballer should be. To show you the kind of many that he was, you only have to see the video Jota recorded at an event called BOSS KIDS to celebrate Liverpool's 20th Premier League title triumph. The event thrown for young Liverpool supporters was made even special by an appearance of a pre-recorded video from Jota himself. Advertisement 'Hello everyone at BOSS KIDS!' his message, introduced by singer Jamie Webster at the family event at the Exhibition Centre started. 'I heard my song was the most voted for the best song of all of the players. I personally agree with that! 'So perhaps Jamie can sing it for you guys and you can sing it extra loud. We are champions!' The fact that he took time out of his day just to make young Liverpool supporters feel special goes to show the kind of man that he was. Now in his death, Liverpool's young players have paid a fitting and touching tribute to the Liverpool forward. Some of the club's academy players visited Anfield to leave flowers for the Portuguese international in a video shared by 433 from the Instagram account: @romandimine_ as shown above. Advertisement The message left on the flowers read: "May your souls continue to rest in perfect peace, Jota and Andre. Sending our condolences to your family, Liverpool U12s."

Chivu Navigates Early Crisis In First Month At Inter Milan & FIFA Club World Cup

Chivu Navigates Early Crisis In First Month At Inter Milan & FIFA Club World Cup Cristian Chivu has gone straight into the deep end at Inter Milan, with an early crisis to navigate in his first few weeks in charge. This is highlighted in today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement It was always pretty obvious that Cristian Chivu had his work cut out for him as Inter Milan coach. The Romanian replaced Simone Inzaghi following the latter's controversial departure to join Al-Hilal. Inzaghi had been Inter coach for four years. Therefore, he had really built the team in his own image. Accordingly, Inzaghi's decision to prioritize the mountain of cash on offer in Saudi Arabia naturally sent shockwaves through the Nerazzurri. Not least considering his last match in charge was a humiliating shellacking at the hands of PSG in the Champions League final. (Photo by) On the one hand, the circumstances of his arrival could mean there's 'nowhere to go but up' for Chivu at Inter. Advertisement Certainly, expectations were not tremendously high for the 44-year-old right away. However, that certainly does not mean that it's been a gentle beginning for Chivu. The Romanian has immediately had to deal with a real dressing room crisis. Comments by Inter captain Lautaro Martinez not-so-subtly imploring Hakan Calhanoglu to make up his mind and leave if he wants to join Galatasaray have upended the dressing room atmosphere. That has, on the one hand, given Chivu an opportunity to prove that he can control the dressing room. Even in the most difficult moments. However, by the same token, the Romanian coach is also facing early challenges to his authority.
