Inside Prince Harry's Secret Tribute for Prince Philip Amid WWII Anniversary

Inside Prince Harry's Secret Tribute for Prince Philip Amid WWII Anniversary originally appeared on Parade. Prince Harry may have distanced himself from the royal family, though he made sure to pay tribute to his late grandfather Prince Philip on the 80th anniversary of V-J Day. The monumental moment marked the end of World War II in 1945. Harry, 40, had a wreath and letter placed at the Burma Star Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire, England, on August 15 to honor Philip and other veterans. The Duke of Sussex reportedly asked a friend to place his tribute after his father, King Charles III, his stepmother, Queen Camilla, and members of the media left the event, according to People. Charles, 76, led a service of remembrance for those who served in the Asia-Pacific region during the war earlier that day. The letter, which was written on Harry's personal letterhead, praised members of the 'Forgotten Army' whose 'courage and endurance in the Far East campaign were anything but forgettable.' He also made sure to include a personal message for Philip, who died at the age of 99 in 2021. 'For me, this anniversary carries an added layer of meaning. My late grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, served in the Pacific campaign,' Harry wrote. 'He spoke with quiet humility about those years, but I know how deeply he respected all who stood beside him in that theater of war. Today, as I think of him, I think also of each of you, of the shared hardships, the bonds forged and the legacy you leave.' Additionally, he was on board a ship in Tokyo Bay when Japan officially surrendered in September 1945. While Harry clearly has love for Philip and other WWII veterans, he likely didn't appear at the celebration due to his estrangement from his family. After he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, the couple continued to keep their distance from his family as they relocated to California. Doja Cat Defends Her Position as a Rapper During Fan Debate: ‘Please Stop Trying to Downplay My Ability'

Doja Cat defended her position as a rapper over the weekend when someone on social media sparked a debate of what she should be classified as. X user @playeration wrote on Saturday (Aug. 9), 'Hopefully after Doja drops pop disco album of the century her fans can stop trying to force her into female rap conversations.' Doja said in her recent V Magazine cover story that Vie, her upcoming fifth studio album, is a 'pop-driven project,' while the publication also pointed out that she's still rapping on much of the album. The same X user doubled down in a subsequent post by writing, 'Sorry to inform you guys but you can't be taken seriously as a rapper without ever prioritizing bars, punchlines, wordplay, and storytelling: the very things that make rap what it is.' They later claimed they asked four different members from Doja's Kittenz fanbase to share 'their best Doja bar and it's CRICKETS.' I'm alright at what I do and sometimes I'm incredible,' Doja replied in the same thread. Please stop trying to downplay my ability it feels like you're doling out criticism with no constructiveness based on something that's deeper than just the topic of music.' The X user @playeration continued emphasizing how examples of Doja's punchlines and wordplay would justify her position as an MC, but the Grammy-winning artist was purposefully resistant to providing such because 'part of me feels like you will immediately shoot it down. What I intend with my work is for the listener to choose what they rock with and what they don't,' she wrote back. 'You have to give me a chance if you're going to make criticisms about the entirety of my raps. You have to listen. You have to read. If you don't read or listen how will you know. I shouldn't have to sit here on twitter and give you a simplified, snipped, deconstructed, and without insulting you, DUMBED down version of my writing for you to be able to hear what hundreds of thousands and lets be honest, millions of people are recognizing as adequate rap bars. You aren't stupid. Listen to my music.' The same X user claimed they've listened to Doja's full catalog and are excited about her upcoming Vie tracks 'Jealous Type' and 'Take Me Dancing,' the latter of which she previewed over the weekend at an after party at the San Francisco drag nightclub Oasis following her headlining set at Outside Lands on Friday night, Aug. 8. Doja debuted the former track during her festival performance. X user @playeration later cited Rakim, Jay-Z and Jeezy as their 'frame of reference' when it comes to rappers, which Doja understood and respected. 'Jay Z is a great writer and so is Rakim and Jeezy you have great taste. 😉 Thank you for opening up about that,' she wrote. 'If you've listened to every single song off of every single album I've made I appreciate that. If you've haven't been able to find a bar that you can connect with, thats more than okay, that's your right. Thank you.' A Swedish Wedding Singer Makes a Literary Match

One wedding is fake, ending in a three-way kiss. Another unfolds in the shadow of a secret cancer diagnosis, and one ends with a sung ode 'to whatever fate may bring.' In all there are 10 ceremonies in the new novel 'Songs for Other People's Weddings,' about a wedding singer named J who composes original songs for celebrating couples. J is also negotiating a complication-strewn relationship with his girlfriend V, who moves to New York from their home city of Gothenburg, Sweden, to pursue her career. As J agonizes over their future, he also interrogates the true — and healthiest — meanings of love. What makes the book unique is signaled by a QR code at its beginning, which gives the reader access to the 10 songs that J sings. They were composed by the acclaimed Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, who, while releasing five wry, melancholy albums and many EPs, has had a longtime side gig as a wedding singer. His co-author, the award-winning Y.A. novelist David Levithan, has written the book's main narrative. Lekman dedicates the novel to 'the 132 couples whose weddings I've played at over the years,' adding, 'I hope my presence turned out to be a blessing and not a curse.' The pair first communicated in 2005 when Levithan — who co-wrote 'Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist,' which was adapted into a 2008 movie — was writing his novel 'Wide Awake.' 'I was listening to a lot of Jens's music — there is a certain bookish quality to his songs,' he said. Though largely a cult figure in the United States, Lekman has his devotees; in 2019 The Guardian named his album 'Night Falls Over Kortedala' one of the best of the 21st century, sandwiched between music by Kanye West and Janelle Monáe.
