Subramanian Swamy moves SC to declare Ram Setu as national monument
New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): Former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre to timely decide his representation seeking to declare 'Ram Setu' as a national monument and of national importance.
The petition sought national monument status for the 'Ram Setu' bridge and a survey by the Geological Survey of India and the Archaeological Survey of India in respect to 'Ram Setu' as an ancient monument of national importance.
Swamy said that he had made a representation to the Centre in terms of the Supreme Court's January 2023 order; however, the same has not been decided.
He further said that 'Ram Setu' fulfils all the criteria for being called an Ancient Monument, as it has historical, archaeological, or artistic interest.
The plea said Ram Setu fulfils the criteria of an Ancient Monument under Section 3/4 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, and the government is duty-bound to declare all ancient monuments of national importance and national monuments.
He said that the Central government is duty-bound to protect 'Ram Setu' from any form of misuse, pollution or desecration.
Swamy's petition stated, 'This archaeological site is a matter of faith and shradha of people treating Ram-Setu as a pilgrimage.'
The central government earlier told the Supreme Court that the process to declare 'Ram Setu' a national heritage monument is currently underway in the Ministry of Culture.
The Centre's response came on Swamy's plea seeking direction to the government to declare 'Ram Setu' a national monument. The apex court then asked Swamy to file a representation with the Ministry on the issue.
Swamy had earlier said that the case has been pending for eight years, but the government has not been able to respond to the plea.
In his plea, Swamy had urged the apex court to pass an order and direct the 'Union of India, along with National Monuments Authority (NMA), to declare 'Ram Setu' as an Ancient Monument of National Importance.'
Swamy said that he had already won the first round of the litigation, in which the Centre accepted the existence of 'Ram Setu'. He added that the union minister concerned had called a meeting in 2017 to consider his demand to declare the Setu a national heritage monument, but subsequently, nothing happened.
'Ram Setu' is a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. (ANI)

We will ensure successful Amarnath Yatra," he added. The world's tallest railway bridge, Chenab Bridge, stands 359 meters above mean sea level. It will connect Jammu and Srinagar. At an estimated cost of over ₹ 43,000 crore, the USBRL project involved laying out ballastless tracks over bridges and tunnels, spanning deep gorges. Ninety per cent of the route was traversed over 943 bridges and 36 main tunnels, including India's longest railway tunnel, T-50, which stretched more than 12.7 km. Also, on the Katra-Banihal section, the Vande Bharat train will also traverse another engineering marvel: the Anji Khad bridge, India's first cable-stayed bridge. Supported by 96 cables, the 725-meter-long bridge stands 331 meters above mean sea level.

Saudi Arabia: Indian pilgrims perform Wuquf-e-Arafat

Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov arrives in Delhi to participate in India- Central Asia Dialogue
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, arrived in Delhi on Thursday to take part in Central Asia Dialogue and the meeting of India -Central Asia Business Council. Details of his arrival were also shared by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, in a post on X. Earlier in the day, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and Zheenbek Kulubaev, Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic also arrived in New Delhi to participate in the fourth India-Central Asia Dialogue. The India-Central Asia Dialogue, launched in Samarkand in 2019, is a key ministerial platform aimed at strengthening ties between India and the Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The earlier editions of the Dialogue have focused on regional security, counter-terrorism, connectivity, and economic cooperation. This year's meeting is expected to build on those priorities, with discussions on trade, infrastructure, technology, and joint development initiatives. India shares centuries-old cultural and historical connections with the Central Asian region. Buddhism spread from India through Tibet to Central Asia, leaving a spiritual legacy visible at key sites such as Kara Tepe, Fayaz Tepe, and Adzhina Tepe. Indian monks helped translate scriptures and establish monasteries across the region, forming the early basis of engagement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to all five Central Asian nations in 2015 gave a major boost to the India- Central Asia ties. His participation in successive Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summits in Tashkent, Bishkek, and Samarkand further reinforced India's outreach. The first India-Central Asia Summit, held virtually in January 2022 and attended by the Presidents of all five nations, led to the adoption of the Delhi Declaration, institutionalising biennial summits and regular ministerial dialogues.
