All-female Japanese rock band Scandal is holding a concert in Singapore this September 2025

Time Out9 hours ago

Before Japanese girl groups like Babymetal, Band-Maid, and Atarashii Gakko were in existence, there was Scandal – a four-member rock group that debuted in 2006. Amidst the primarily saccharine, cutesy outlook of other female idols in the Japanese music industry, this bunch of high school pals stood out with their badassery and broke all stereotypes of what a teen girl group in the scene should sound like. They play their own instruments too – with Mami on guitar, Tomomi on bass, Rina on drums, and Haruna as the lead vocalist.
The OG fans would remember the foursome for their iconic black-and-red schoolgirl-like stage outfits back in their earlier days. Now in their mid-30s, they sport a more cleaned-up aesthetic alongside more masterful vocals – but with no lack of the same attitude they've come to be known and loved for.
Scandal is known for hits like Harukaze, which was featured in anime Bleach; Shunkan Sentimental (瞬間センチメンタル) which was the soundtrack for Fullmetal Alchemist; and Yoake No Ryuuseigun (夜明けの流星群) for a Pokémon movie. As for non-anime-related tunes, Scandal Baby; Awanaitsumorino, Genkidene (会わないつもりの、元気でね); and Departure are among the extensive collection of power-packed earworms across their 11-album discography.

Virgin Radio UK's Ryan Tubridy confirms engagement to partner Clare Kambamettu: 'It's a very exciting time to be alive'

Virgin Radio host Ryan Tubridy has announced his engagement to his girlfriend Dr Clare Kambamettu. The presenter, 52, confirmed the happy news during the Tuesday broadcast of his radio show. Ryan, who is from Dublin, told how the couple got engaged during a visit to the west of Ireland last week. 'I have a little bit of news that I've been keeping to myself, to ourselves,' he told listeners at the beginning of his show. 'I'm very, very, very happy to confirm I did get engaged to my partner Clare in the west of Ireland on Thursday evening.' He thanked listeners who sent in their well wishes and said the engagement is a 'beautiful feeling' and it's 'a very exciting time to be alive'. He added: 'We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel, and people who were working around the place and got a beautiful ring organised, and the weather was gorgeous. 'And it's just the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening, and I just decided now is the time. 'More to follow in terms of details and all the rest of it. And by the more to follow, I mean I'll tell my family first. 'It's a very exciting time to be alive. I'm a very, very lucky man, and I think it's one of those beautiful moments where the world feels lighter.' O'Dalaigh Jewellers in Clifden, County Galway had posted on social media that Ryan had come to them 'discreetly' looking for a ring for a 'very special lady'. The jewellers shared a photo of Ryan and Clare outside the store with a member of staff. However, after media queries to Ryan's agent by the Irish press, the post was deleted. Clare was born in Leeds to an Indian father and an Irish mother. She won the annual Irish beauty pageant The Rose of Tralee in 2010 when she was 26. They confirmed their relationship when they attended the Irish Post Book Awards together in 2023. He was previously married to producer Anne Marie Power who he shares daughters Ella and Julia with. Ryan joined Virgin Radio UK in January 2024 to present its mid-morning programme after The Chris Evans Show. He has also sporadically presented programmes on BBC Radio 2 over the years. He is widely known in Ireland for hosting chat show The Late Late Show from 2009 to 2023. The show is now hosted by Patrick Kielty.

A POPULAR radio star has revealed he's got engaged to his girlfriend after a romantic proposal in Ireland. Virgin Radio UK star Ryan Tubridy, 52, has confirmed that he popped the question to partner Clare Kambamettu, and said he was "very very very happy". Breaking his silence on the rumours on his mid-morning show today, the Irish broadcaster told listeners: 'Okay, so I have a little bit of news that I was kind of keeping a little bit to myself and to ourselves on the basis that even though I'm quite a public person doing the job that I do. "I also have quite a lot of privacy that I like to keep to myself. "However, the cat has been removed from the bag for a number of different reasons and I'm very, very, very, very, very happy to confirm that I did indeed get engaged to my partner Clare on Thursday evening in the West of Ireland and it is a very beautiful feeling." Continuing, Ryan, who is known in his native Ireland for previously hosting The Late Late Show, said: 'We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel and people who were working around the place and got a beautiful ring organised and the weather was gorgeous and it's just the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening and I just decided now is the time." The dad-of-two added: "It's a very exciting time to be alive. I'm a very, very lucky man. "And I think it's one of those beautiful moments where the world feels lighter and there's a whole new adventure ahead so that's what happened, that's in the news a little bit today at home for sure and maybe out and about but yeah... lucky man, beautiful day, and the future is bright.' He has been broadcasting industry over the past 20 years and, as well as his Virgin Radio slot every weekday, he also has his own podcast called The Book Shelf. The popular presenter recently made a surprising admission about himself, when it came to appearing on TV. In a candid interview with Mark Moriarty on his Roasted podcast, Ryan said: "I look back at parts of my career and I think, 'what an insufferable pain in the hoop that guy is." LATE LATE SHOW CONFESSION Ryan also recently admitted he does not miss hosting Ireland's The Late Late Show for 'one minute'. He left the show two years ago, with Patrick Kielty stepping in to be the new host Ryan added: 'I haven't seen The Late Late Show since I moved away, and there's no badness in it, it's just because I don't have the RTE Player in London. 'Also, on Friday night I'm normally out and about, or else I travel home to Ireland every two or three weeks. 'I loved presenting it, and I wish everyone well at it. I just need to do other things. I'm embedded in the UK now, so I need to focus on that.' Speaking about his successor, Ryan said: 'I think he's great. I think he has the chops. 'When I said I wanted to leave in March [last year] and they had a few months to pick [someone], he was very close to the top of my list, and by all accounts he's doing grand. So good on him - I wish him well.' 3

Bake Off: The Professionals judge Cherish Finden | Channel 4/ Laura Palmer It will be a pair of familiar faces on judging duty for the 10th series of Bake-Off: The Professionals. Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden are returning to cast an expert eye, and several thousand expert tastebuds, over the contestants' creations. Blin is best known as the Chef Pâtissier at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. He said: 'What I've really noticed is that the gap between the strongest and weakest teams has narrowed so much. And when you reach the second or third stage of the competition, you see the teams are all really close together. I think now all the teams really understand what the competition is all about, so they prepare a little better.' Finden is formerly Executive Pastry Chef of the Pan Pacific London Hotel. Speaking ahead of series 10, she added: 'Hitting our 10th anniversary is like pulling a perfectly risen soufflé out of the oven – pure joy and satisfaction. Every series brings fresh talent, new surprises, and breathtaking creations. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'It is amazing to see how they evolve. I'm honoured to still be part of this journey and continue to inspire and challenge the best pastry in the industry.' Both Blin and Finden have been judges on the show since it began back in 2016 on BBC Two - when it was originally called Bake Off: Crème de la Crème. The duo have judged on all 10 series, including the one airing in 2025. Have you got a story you want to share with our readers? You can now send it to us online via YourWorld at .
