More than 21,000 people flock to Kelvingrove Park for Glasgow Mela
Despite the rainy start to the day, the largest South Asian festival of its kind in Scotland treated festivalgoers to performances from acts like Gtown Desi, Saloni, and Maya Lakhani.

It aims to promote local artists and their cultural heritage.

Attendees sampled food from around the world, joined in a variety of sports, and took part in discussions and workshops on themes including health and wellbeing through the arts, music and memory, and the role of South Asian artists in experimental practices.
There was also a collaboration with Glasgow Life Museums' Intercultural Youth Group to support the Scottish-Asian Creative Artists' Network's aim to discuss key issues within and for South Asian communities.

"The 2025 Mela proved why Glasgow is known the world over as a diverse, multicultural city full of artistic talent.
"The Mela is a firm favourite in Glasgow's cultural events calendar and provides fantastic free performances and a fun day out for everyone.

"Throughout the year we are seeing our established city events and festivals really embracing what this special year means to them and using the themes of the year and storytelling to excite, educate and entertain their audiences."
The festival was awarded £50,000 from Creative Scotland for 2025-26 and will benefit from £169,100 of funding over the next three years.

Man banned after he filmed Cineworld staff telling off confetti throwers Cineworld staff argued with a number of filmgoers who threw confetti during a screening Cineworld staff stopped a movie screening to tell off customers for having 'no common sense' - after they showered the theatre in confetti. Sanj Langi says 'around seven' people threw blue confetti in the air when their favourite actor appeared on screen in an Indian action movie at the cinema in Birmingham. The 49-year-old says he left the cinema after half an hour as he didn't like the film but not without telling staff about the 'annoying' customers. Workers then stopped the film to confront viewers and Sanj's footage shows them declaring it's 'basic sense' not to throw confetti even if they didn't see a sign prohibiting it. An outspoken customer continues to argue back when one of the staff said 'so you're saying you have no common sense'. The other worker explains 'we have to clean it' and warns 'if this happens again the whole movie is going off and everyone is going home'. Sanj says it's common for confetti to be thrown at cinemas in southern India and in this case it was thrown because popular actor Pawn Kalyan appeared on screen. He claims there was a sign prohibiting the throwing of confetti and supports the staff's annoyance as he says 'this is England, not India'. "I told the staff they threw the confetti and about four of them stopped the movie and asked them why they're doing it. "They thought there was nothing wrong with it. They should have more sense. "People were throwing it in the first three rows. Around seven people so it was a lot to clean up. It's not fair. Article continues below Sanj, who visits the Cineworld cinema five times per week, says he's since been banned because he's refused to delete footage of the incident from TikTok. One user commented: "Who doesn't know you can't throw confetti in a cinema venue?" A second said: "People need to realise that Cineworld shows the South Asian films LATE AT NIGHT and it's usually the last film to come out. Imagine having to clean this up at nearly midnight." A third added: "This looks like a really bad comedy film." Cineworld has been contacted for comment.

For the first time in its history, the Sunday edition of the programme will no longer be known as Match of the Day 2. Instead, it will carry the same name as the Saturday night show. The midweek Champions League highlights programme will also follow suit, unifying the brand under the single Match of the Day title. It's part of a shake-up to coincide with the departure of long-time host Gary Lineker, who stepped down at the end of last season after 25 years in the hot seat. In his place, the BBC will use a rotating trio of presenters — Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan — to front the coverage throughout the 2025/26 campaign. The change is designed to streamline the BBC's football coverage and reflect the fact that all editions, whether Saturday, Sunday or midweek, will share the same format and production style. Mark Chapman, who will present the opening show of the season this Saturday, told Radio Times: 'I'm intrigued, really, because I've never viewed Saturdays and Sundays as any different.'
