All the spectacular winning shots of the UN World Oceans Day photo competition
They say we know more about outer space than we do about the ocean, but something that we can all agree on when it comes to our seas is that they are pretty magnificent – and in dire need of protection.
To showcase them at their very best, a photo competition is held annually to align with the UN World Oceans Day, which is a collaboration between the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, DPG, Oceanic Global, and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.
The winners for this year's edition have just been announced, and they're seriously mesmerising.

There were three returning categories: 'big and small water faces', 'underwater seascapes' and 'above water seascapes', and a new category of 'wonder: sustaining what sustains us', and the submissions, which were from thousands of amateur and professional photographers, were judged by a panel of experts. Scroll on for the stunning winning shots.

Cape Town is Africa's Best City for Nightlife!
Gone are the days when a great night out only meant dancing till dawn, sore feet, and questionable decisions (though, if that's still your vibe, no judgment). These days, nightlife means something for everyone, and Cape Town proves that it's the place to do it all. The Mother City's winning streak shows no signs of slowing down, further cementing its reputation as a world-class destination in every way. Fresh off being named the Best City on Earth and boasting the title of World's Best Airport (shoutout to Cape Town International), the city has added yet another accolade to its growing list. Cape Town has ranked 11th in Time Out's Best Cities for Nightlife Right Now! We're also loving the fact that three other African cities - Lagos, Cairo and Marrakesh - claimed some shine on the list. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Time Out Travel (@timeouttravel) How the ranking works: Time Out surveyed thousands of people across hundreds of cities around the world, asking them to rate both the quality and affordability of their nightlife. Think: clubbing, bars, pubs, live shows and more. A panel of Time Out city editors and writers then weighed in, considering not just the party scene, but also late-night cafés, street culture, and local community hubs that keep cities buzzing after dark. According to the survey, 77% of Capetonians rated the city highly for after-hours fun. What makes our local night life stand out? "Just consider the vibe of South African homegrown global stars Tyla and Black Coffee," says Time Out Cape Town Editor Selene Brophy who credited the city's nightlife appeal to its "grit, glamour, and groove." "Favourites along Bree, Loop and Long Streets, including Athletic Club & Social and Blue Room, ensure the City Bowl District is still a magnet for nightlife. At the same time, amapiano and gqom echo through mixed-use spaces like the Homecoming Centre, Kahya Cafe and the sleek Ayepyep Lifestyle Lounge. "While Cape Town's jazz heritage endures through intimate venues throughout the city and the annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival. This is officially the world's most beautiful outdoor cinema
Comfy seats, 4k projection – oh, and the Sydney Opera House in your eyeline If you're of the opinion that going to the movies is an activity reserved for chilly winter evenings, you obviously haven't checked out our newly refreshed roundup of the planet's most glorious outdoor cinemas. Foolish. Across the world, there are plenty to choose from, whether you're in Catalonia and fancy a screening with a mediaeval castle as your backdrop, or are hiking around Colorado and stumble across a showing at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. But none can quite compare to our crowning champion when it comes to big outdoor screens. Where is it, you ask? Well, it's perched overlooking Sydney Harbour. The Westpac OpenAir sits on Mrs Macquaries Point with the city's skyline (including blockbuster landmarks like the Opera House and Harbour Bridge) in the background. There's dolby digital surround sound and 4k projection, as well as some seriously comfy seating and even the option to throw in a bougie dining experience on the site's waterside terrace. Recommended: I went on a food tour of Copenhagen inspired by 'The Bear' – these are the best things I ate. 'A movie needs to really land when it has to compete with Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge all doing their jaw-dropping thing in the background. Then again, if you do catch a dud, there's always the lights twinkling on the water and the fruit bats flying overhead to ensure a trip to this breathtaking screen in Sydney's Botanic Gardens is a memorable one,' writers Time Out contributor Stephen A Russell, 'You can order a bottle of bubbles to wash down a picnic box as you settle in for an evening watching everything from the latest blockbusters to vintage classics. It's a genuinely unforgettable experience.' That's pretty high praise, eh? Well, there's 29 more stunning screens where that came from. Check out our full roundup of the most beautiful outdoor cinemas in the world . Oh, and here are the most beautiful (indoor) cinemas on the planet, as well as 100 places we think all movie lovers should visit.
