Mike Vrabel has spicy exchange with Patriots reporter over Stefon Diggs question

New York Posta day ago
Things got spicy in Minnesota when Mike Vrabel was at the podium.
The first-year Patriots coach — never one to mince words when calling out the media — had a tense exchange Thursday with a reporter who inquired about comments made by star receiver Stefon Diggs over his Week 1 availability.
'Did you really believe that, Phil [Perry]? I mean, you're a smart guy. I don't know where you went to school – it wasn't Ohio State. But like, do you really believe that? Do you really believe that, Phil, or are you just trying to bait me into something?' Vrabel said.

Perry of NBC Sports Boston then told Vrabel, 'I'm not baiting you into anything,' and added, '[Diggs] did say he wasn't sure he'd be ready for Week 1.'
Diggs, who agreed to a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots in free agency, is coming off a torn ACL sustained last October when he played for the Texans.
During an appearance on the 'Scoop City' podcast this week, the four-time Pro Bowler said he feels 'great' and 'we'll see about Week 1,' when the Patriots host the Raiders on Sept. 7.

Upon hearing Perry's follow-up question, Vrabel said Thursday he was unclear about 'the context in which [Diggs] said it,' and how the All-Pro wideout has 'been out here almost every day.'
'I'm excited of where he's at and we'll see when Week 1 comes, but he's going to practice today. Hopefully, he helps us in the red zone, but we can't predict the future about Week 1. I just know he's going to be out there today, and he works hard and he cares, which are two important things,' Vrabel said.
Diggs scored three touchdowns across eight appearances with the Texans in 2024 before he went down with an injury.

He was traded to Houston in April 2024 by the Bills. In each of his four seasons in Buffalo, Diggs surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and caught a career-high 11 touchdowns in 2022.
The Patriots, coming off a forgettable 4-13 season, will be relying on Diggs as second-year quarterback Drake Maye looks to take the next step following a promising rookie campaign.

The third overall pick in 2024 threw 15 touchdowns against 10 interceptions through 13 regular-season games.
Vrabel, a Super Bowl-winning linebacker with the franchise, has put his own flair on the club since being named head coach in January.
Beyond breaking up training camp skirmishes, Vrabel is making sure reporters are staying alert with questions.
As the Patriots entered training camp in July, Vrabel scolded a Boston reporter for framing a question similarly to one that had already been asked.
Ben Volin of the Boston Globe went on to flag himself for a 'total lack of focus.'

What TV channel is Cowboys vs. Ravens on today? Time, TV schedule for NFL preseason game

What has the class learned in the last week? The Dallas Cowboys are getting back on the horse, returning to game action as the 2025 preseason continues. The team, following a bad loss in the exhibition opener against the Los Angeles Rams last Saturday, has returned from their West Coast training camp to the heat of North Texas. And while the team has yet to begin practicing at The Star in Frisco, they will take on the next opponent in the Baltimore Ravens Satruday night. The team released their second unofficial depth chart earlier in the week, without much difference from the first. The club didn't play any of the starters in the opener, but several will be available for action in the second of three exhibitions before the team's schemes and strategies are actually unveiled. That comes in the regular season opener, the Thursday Night kickoff against the defending NFC East, NFC and Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles on September 4. Fans have limited opportunities to acclimate themselves with the down-roster players, and Saturday will be another opportunity. Commanders activate star receiver Terry McLaurin in contract drama twist

Terry McLaurin has been activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Saturday, but it remains to be seen if the Commanders' receiver will strike a new deal with the team before the regular season begins. McLaurin, who had been designated to the PUP list with an ankle issue, was fined $200,000 by the organization for missing the first four days of training camp in July in a contract dispute. AP Advertisement McLaurin's clearance 'is the next step in his progression, but unrelated to negotiations,' ESPN's Adam Schefter posted Saturday on X. 'A small step….as he's set to ramp up — the next step in returning to practice,' NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added on the social media site. 'There is no indication of progress on an extension. But with the season looming, McLaurin will begin the process of getting his body ready.' Other top receivers like Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and DK Metcalf have recently received extensions from their respective teams. Bill Kostroun/New York Post The two-time Pro Bowler has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past five NFL seasons, including 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns in 17 games in 2024 as the primary target for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Advertisement 'It feels good to be around my teammates and around the fans,' McLaurin told reporters after reporting to camp last month. 'I can't beat that at all. They showed me a lot of love and support. You lose sight of some things when the business gets involved, but I never lost sight of the way they supported me. It's business, but it has nothing to do with them.' The Commanders went 12-5 during the regular season last year and advanced to the NFC Championship game before losing to the Eagles. They will face the Bengals in their second preseason game Monday night, and open the season at home against the Giants on Sept. 7.

Xavier Worthy fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions

Rotoworld Staff, Xavier Worthy 2025 Fantasy Preview 2024: The Chiefs pulled the plug on the speedy Worthy as a strictly downfield threat late last season, using him almost exclusively as a short-area catch-and-gun guy. It worked well: Worthy racked up 394 yards on 38 receptions over the season's final seven games before exploding for 157 yards and two touchdowns in KC's Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. Worthy showed he can be a multidimensional threat in Andy Reid's offensive system. He benefited from the absence of Rashee Rice, who went down with a season-ending injury in Week 4. What's changed: Rashee Rice's status is up in the air as he faces a potential suspension that could be as little as two games and as much as six games. It's also unclear when the suspension might take effect. The Chiefs selected WR Jaylen Royals in the fourth round of the 2025 draft. Outlook: Worthy likely won't retain his hearty target share with the return of Rice, who was dominant before his Week 4 knee injury. Still, Worthy should be fine as a WR2/3 in 12-team leagues who has as much weekly upside as any wideout outside the elite group. The Chiefs offense should remain one of the NFL's most pass heavy units, creating enough volume for Worthy even if Rice returns to his 2024 dominance.
