Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that Malaysia and Japan are ready to explore potential collaborations in green energy development and technology, aiming for a more sustainable future. He said this during his meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, a special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister, in Putrajaya, today. Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said that the cooperation aligns with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which targets investment opportunities, ranging from RM435 billion to RM1.85 trillion by 2050, while aiming to create profitable joint ventures, which are beneficial for both the environment and the economy. Additionally, Fadillah and Kishida, the architect of the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) initiative, discussed various other key aspects. 'This includes AZEC's role in strengthening bilateral, regional, and global cooperation,' he said in a Facebook post, today. AZEC is a cooperation platform aimed at advancing carbon neutrality and facilitating energy transition to achieve zero-emission targets. Frigate arrives in Australia as Tokyo bids for defence deal
A Japanese warship has arrived in Australia as part of a high-stakes campaign to secure a US$6.5bil (RM27.5bil) contract to build the country's next fleet of general-purpose frigates. The JS Yahagi, a Mogami-class stealth frigate, is docked in Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory in a symbolic and strategic move aimed at strengthening defence ties with Australia. Japan's bid, led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, was short-listed in November for the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) SEA 3000 frigate project – competing against Germany's rival offer. Australia is expected to select a preferred design later this year, with construction for 11 new vessels to begin the following year. Japan would jointly develop and produce the frigates for the RAN. Japan is pushing to strengthen its domestic defence industry by participating in joint development, including a next-generation fighter jet with Britain and Italy, and promoting foreign sales like the Mogami-class ships. In a sign of its commitment and investment Japan has pledged to prioritise the RAN's order over its own naval procurement. The Mogami-class boasts advanced combat systems, anti-submarine and anti-air warfare capabilities and mine countermeasure operations – all operated by a lean crew of around 90, helping to address recruitment challenges in the RAN. The vessel's commanding officer, Tamura Masayoshi, said the ship's smaller crew was an aim of the Mogami-class ship. 'The Japanese Maritime Self-defence Force thought we need stealth, and less people, and a little bit smaller ship,' Masayoshi told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. — AP

KUNAK: Citra Masadi, who used to be the Deputy President of Safa Kunak, said he stepped down from his role in the local football body over a year ago. Describing the announcement by Safa Kunak President, Dato' Sri Anil Sandhu, who resigned on Sunday, Citra said he was 'not surprised' by the president's withdrawal. Advertisement Anil made a statement last Sunday while attending the final match between Mostyn FC and Uncle Chang FC at the Kunak town field, organised by Safa Kunak. 'I resigned from the position of Deputy President earlier, in March last year, and after that, the district Safa continued to be managed by the existing committee members,' said Citra to the Daily Express in a brief message on Tuesday. Citra, however, did not elaborate further on the reasons for his action but noted that the development of football, particularly the teams in Kunak, has been deteriorating over the past year. Recently, Kunak ranked fourth in the men's team football qualification round for the Tawau zone in the 11th Sabah Games (Saga-XI) 2025. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the memorandum should be submitted to the Technical Review Committee on Amendments, chaired by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Advertisement He said an engagement session with the 10 associations was held Tuesday to scrutinise proposed amendments to restrictions on the use of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in trade and business, including considering the needs of micro and small-scale food and beverage vendors. Among the matters to be considered are the amendment parameters related to defining the business scale of the food and beverage sales involved.
