Mchunu condemns KZN Inkosi for alleged rape of teen girl
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has condemned the alleged rape of an 18-year-old young woman by a 54-year-old Inkosi of the KwaBhidla area.
The incident reportedly happened on 4 May 2025.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the accused in this case, reports indicate that the suspect gave the young woman a lift from the eGqumeni area, only to allegedly refuse to drop her off, instead driving her to a remote and isolated bushy area where he is accused of raping her.
Netshiunda said following his first appearance in the Hlanganani Magistrate's Court on Friday, the suspect was remanded in custody until Monday, 12 May, when he is expected to make a formal bail application.
In condemning this act, the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu said this vile act—allegedly committed by someone who holds a position of leadership and authority—is a betrayal of the moral, ethical, and societal responsibilities bestowed upon traditional leaders; it flies in the face of the values we seek to uphold in a just, safe, and respectful society.
Mchunu said it is clear that the Inkosi premeditated this and clearly executed his plan using his car.
'All along and up to now, when engaging with my counterpart in CoGTA, it has been around the role that traditional leaders need to play on various social ills and around their security concerns, but we have never thought that we now have to engage on their involvement in the act of rape.
'We commend the South African Police Service for acting swiftly and professionally in response to this incident. We stand in unwavering solidarity with the victim and her family during this painful time. We trust and will ensure that the justice system treats the victim with dignity, that her voice is heard, and that this matter is pursued with the urgency and weight it deserves. No individual—regardless of their title, position, or social standing—should ever be allowed to act with impunity, especially in matters as grave as Gender-Based Violence,' he said.

FSCA warning: These well-known people cannot help you to invest
The FSCA urges consumers to exercise extreme caution when investing their hard-earned money and to verify that they are dealing with a legitimate and authorised entity or broker. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is warning consumers to be cautious of deepfake videos featuring well-known individuals promoting specific investments, as well as fraudsters impersonating legitimate brokers and investment firms to scam consumers out of their money. The FSCA warns consumers to watch out for investment platforms claiming to be associated with business mogul Dr Patrice Motsepe, broadcaster Leanne Manas, President Cyril Ramaphosa and his deputy Paul Mashatile. The authority says in a statement that it has learned that the platforms may be providing financial services to the public without authorisation, while it promises unrealistic returns of between R13 000 and R17 000 per day, on an investment of only R4 500. These platforms also use fake images and deepfake videos using Motsepe, Manas, Ramaphosa and Mashatile's faces. In one of the deep fake videos, a digitally altered version of Motsepe promotes investments offered on the platform, while a manipulated video of Mashatile confirms that the platform is authorised and that investors will receive returns. Another video uses a deepfake of Ramaphosa to promote investments and guaranteed returns. The FSCA says consumers must remember that the individuals behind the platforms are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services to the public. When the FSCA tried to contact the individuals behind the platforms, there was no response. ALSO READ: FSCA says watch out for these scammers FSCA also warns about Momentum Metropolitan and Risto Ketola impersonators The FSCA also warns consumers to look out for fraudulent WhatsApp groups where individuals impersonate Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited and Risto Ketola. It says consumers must be careful when engaging with a WhatsApp group operating under the names 'Q23 Momentum Official Securities Group' and 'Q923 MOSG Official Securities Group'. These groups falsely claim to be affiliated with Ketola, the group finance director of Momentum Metropolitan Holdings, after receiving reports of a scheme where individuals use WhatsApp to solicit funds from unsuspecting consumers. The FSCA points out that the administrators of these groups fraudulently impersonate Ketola and misuse his name, image and professional credentials to promote what is described as 'structured guidance and risk-managed investment strategies'. The group claims to offer returns exceeding 160% and advertises a so-called 'check-in reward initiative,' promising up to R2 000 per month to individuals who promote the group. According to the FSCA, Momentum Metropolitan confirmed that neither it nor Ketola has any association with the WhatsApp groups. Momentum Metropolitan expressed its concern over the growing number of advertisements on Telegram, Facebook and WhatsApp fraudulently linking its brand and executives to unauthorised investment schemes. ALSO READ: FSCA warns consumers about investments with these unregistered entities FSCA also warns about individuals impersonating Brokstok The FSCA also warns consumers to be careful of individuals impersonating Brokstock SA, an authorised financial services provider (FSP) with FSP number 51404 after it received information that Zibu Masotobe Sibiya with WhatsApp number +2771 768 4632 and her associate Mike Mabuyakhulu with WhatsApp number +2779 429 3027 are impersonating Brokstock SA. The FSCA says Sibiya and Mabuyakhulu are unlawfully acting as representatives using Telegram and WhatsApp groups called Brokstock Beginner/s and an FNB bank account in the name of Brokstockshares and the account number 62871907790, with an email address brokstockshares@ Sibiya and Mabuyakhulu lure consumers into depositing funds into a fraudulent bank account. The FSCA points out that Brokstock SA confirmed that the individuals are in no way associated with Brokstock and that any representations suggesting otherwise are entirely false and misleading. Brokstock SA emphasises that it will never share its banking details on public communication channels, such as Telegram or WhatsApp. The FSCA urges the public to exercise caution regarding scams conducted through messaging services and various social media platforms, as these incidents are on the rise. The impersonators use the FSCA logo, details of its staff and fake FSCA certificates to claim an association with the authority to entice consumers to use their services or make investments. The FSCA impersonators offer members of the public help to claim refunds from investments they made with financial service providers, and also offer help to recoup losses they suffered through trading in investment instruments such as crypto assets. 'The impersonators of the FSCA are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services. The FSCA has no association with those impersonating it.' The impersonators also use the FSP numbers issued to authorised financial service providers to solicit investments from members of the public. In addition to using the FSP numbers, the impersonators also use the details of staff and management of financial service providers to lend legitimacy to their operations. The FSCA emphasises that the impersonators are not authorised in terms of any financial sector law to provide financial services. The financial service providers who were impersonated denied any association with these impersonators: Geronimo 2 Audacity Capital, USA Sarasohn Ximen and Aguilar Navarro Joaquin. Despite its attempts, the FSCA was unable to get hold of any of the impersonators. The FSCA reminds consumers to treat any entity or individual purporting to represent the FSCA or to be a financial service provider on any platform with suspicion and to contact the FSCA immediately. Authorised financial services providers must clearly display their authorisation status in their documentation. 'If this is not present, consumers must first investigate further before making any payments. We also urge consumers to exercise caution when considering investment or trading offers on social media platforms or any unsolicited offers,' the FSCA says. The authority recommended that you protect yourself by first verifying: That an entity or individual is authorised by the FSCA to provide financial products and services, including giving recommendations about how to invest The category of advice the person is registered to provide, as there are instances where companies or people are registered to provide basic advice for a low-risk product and then offer advice on far more complex and risky products. The FSP number of the entity or individual offering financial services matches the name of the financial service provider on the FSCA database. The FSCA says you can use one of these methods to confirm the status and FSP number of a service provider or someone who claims to be an authorised service provider:

Get to know the young men and women in blue during youth month This year, the South African Police Service (SAPS) joins the country in observing Youth Month by celebrating its young men and women in blue who go above and beyond the call of duty. Today, we introduce the nation to 32-year-old Constable Kgomotso Monnamorwa, an operator attached to the Public Order Policing (POP) Unit in Potchefstroom, North West. Having joined the South African Police Service (SAPS) in 2022, Kgomotso as affectionately known, believes that with an abundance of careers in the Service, one needs just potential and commitment to contribute immensely towards creating a safe and secure environment for the people of South Africa. Monnamorwa who was born and brought up in Mokasa II village, Taung, has been part of the SAPS family for the last three years following her recruitment on 1 April 2022. Ordinarily, working at Public Order Police (POP) has its own challenges, considering that the Unit is primarily responsible for combating crime and maintaining public order. Nevertheless, that did not discourage Monnamorwa to accept with both hands her permanent placement at the POP Unit. When she is not performing crowd management duties or combating crime in the field, the resourceful officer is responsible for the Loss Management and Moveable Government Property duties in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Section. Her duties include but not limited to ensuring that the Unit has enough resources and that the available ones are used optimally and in an accountable manner. Monnamorwa who is also known as 'Momo', obtained her BA Degree in Psychology and Sociology, which she completed in 2019 at North West University. With her determination to equipping herself academically, the member is considering pursuing a career in the Psychology field. She believes that there is so much to learn and is passionately committed about developing herself within the Service and uplifting her fellow members. Having been in the SAPS for three years, Monnamorwa's message to the youth is that: 'There are so many career opportunities within the SAPS; you just need to realise your true potential, study and work smart towards achieving your aspirations. Thabiso Zulu's vindication: Hitman's confession reveals state involvement in Magaqa's assassination

Image: Sibonelo Ngcobo / Independent Media A prominent anti-corruption activist, Thabiso Zulu, who was also Sindiso Magaqa's close friend, says he is vindicated by the revelation of the state's hand in the murder of the former ANC Youth League leader. Last week, in his confession under oath in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, the hitman, Sibusiso Ncengwa, revealed shocking details about the role played by the SAPS's Crime Intelligence Unit members in the planning and execution of the killing in 2017. Ncengwa, businessman Mbulelo Mpofana, former policeman Sibonelo Myeza, and Mlungisi Ncalane were arrested in 2018 and charged with Magaqa's murder, who, at the time, was an ANC councillor in Umzimkhulu Local Municipality.. The hitman disclosed the chilling SAPS involvement in the murder as well as the role played by National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officials in ensuring the case's demise. He also named the late Harry Gwala District Municipality mayor, Mluleki Ndobe, and former Umzimkhulu Local Municipality manager, Zweliphansi Skhosana, as the masterminds, who paid just over a million rand for a hit on Magaqa. Next Stay Close ✕ Detailing the police's role, Ncengwa said that, using its slush funds, the police bought the AK-47 that they used to kill Magaqa. He also said they bought a Mercedes-Benz that was used to travel to Umzimkhulu and Durban. He said the police also ensured that no police members would arrest them on their way to Durban on the day of the shooting of Magaqa by escorting their vehicle, adding that the police officer who escorted them was paid R20,000. The hitman provided details about the NPA's involvement, stating that he would have confessed long ago if the agency hadn't attempted to stop him. He told the police officer in 2019 that he wanted to confess, but the NPA dismissed the prosecutor because it believed he would permit the confession, especially the one that implicated the police. The State accepted Ncengwa's guilty plea and would be sentenced at the end of the month. Reacting to the revelation, Zulu said he was not surprised and felt vindicated when he saw the hitman's confession because it was the same information he had gone public with. 'This is the same information I publicly revealed after the killing and even went to the Moerane Commission with. I always maintained that Magaqa was assassinated by the state, so the hitman's confession vindicates me,' said Zulu Magaqa's family spokesperson Dr Lwazi Magaqa said the family is in a bereavement for another death and was not able to speak about the matter for now. Dr Lwazi Magaqa, a spokesperson for the Magaqa family, stated that the family is grieving the loss of another member and is unable to discuss the situation at this time. The NPA and the SAPS are yet to comment on their alleged involvement. Speaking on a TV interview on Monday night, Zulu called for the arrest of all the people named by the hitman in his confession.
