Earth Day Expo at E.O. Wilson Center promotes eco-friendly living
FREEPORT, Fla. (WMBB) – In celebration of Earth Day, a popular Walton County attraction is hosting an expo to give residents and visitors the chance to discover a variety of eco-friendly resources in and around the county.
At the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center on Saturday, April 26th, you can listen in on various presentations from local environmental organizations, purchase goods from vendors, and meet some of the center's residents.
The presentations will cover topics including living a more sustainable lifestyle, planting gardens, and supporting native landscapes.
The main purpose of this event is to bring people together and provide them with a better understanding of Earth Day.
Gulf Coast State College hosts free student art show with diverse works
'We wanted to get together with a lot of other organizations, bring them out in one space where people could really get the full picture of what Earth Day is all about, supporting all sorts of different ecosystems from the small to the big,' said E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center Assistant Director Ashlyn Stanford. 'Being able to get involved in their own sort of way and maybe learn something that maybe they didn't realize they were interested in.'
This year's expo will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission is $7 for kids between the ages of 4 and 12, and $10 for anyone 13 and up.

JCSO announces 1st Annual 'Praise in the Park' fundraiser
JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has announced its first annual fundraiser for Chrome Ministry, 'Praise in the Park,' on Saturday. According to a JCSO Facebook post, the fundraiser will take place on Sunday at Madison Street Park from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees can expect an evening filled with live worship music, raffles, food, bounce house, splash pad and more. JCSO said that all proceeds from the event will go to support Still Waters Women's Ministry and Chrome Ministry. Those who want the opportunity to dunk Sheriff Donnie Edenfield in the tank can pay $10 for three chances. And $5,000 will keep Hunter Nolen out of the tank and Edenfield in. Pay tribute to fallen soldiers this Memorial Day in the Panhandle
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Memorial Day is a holiday to honor and remember U.S. military personnel who have served and sacrificed for our country. The Panhandle will host a variety of free events open to the public on Monday, May 26. In partnership with the Bay County Board of County Commissioners and the Bay County Veterans Council, Bay County Veterans Services will hold its annual ceremony and wreath laying at the Kent-Forest Lawn Cemetery, 2403 Harrison Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. To honor U.S. service members who died while serving in the military, speakers from local military bases and veterans' organizations are scheduled to participate. The Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce will celebrate at the Veterans Memorial Plaza and Three Soldiers Statue on 230 Market Street from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Former Senior Executive Service Member, Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada) Veteran, and Purple Heart recipient Dr. Gordon Sumner is the guest speaker.
