Manchester Arena bomb plotter Hashem Abedi charged with attempted murder after attacking prison guards
Abedi, 28, is also charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of unauthorised possession of a knife or offensive weapon after the incident at HMP Frankland in Durham on April 12.
Counter Terrorism Policing North East said it had carried out a "thorough investigation" of the incident with Durham Constabulary and HMP Frankland.
Abedi, who remains in prison, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 18.
Three prison officers were taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident.

Dogs stolen from South Milford rescue kennels during break-in
Thieves have stolen three stray dogs from a North Yorkshire rescue centre in an overnight raid. CCTV footage showed two people climbing over the fence at Woodhaven Second Chance Rehoming, in South Milford, in the early hours of Tuesday before breaking into the of the dogs was later returned to her kennel by the suspects while a second was found in a nearby stables the following a third dog, Bella, a black and white lurcher, remains missing, prompting Woodhaven's manager, Lucy Hoxberry, to issue an appeal for her safe return. "We're just so worried about Bella," she said. "We just want her home safe, that's all we want."She's like one of our pets and she can get really nervous as well, so she's not going to be coping." Bella was brought to the centre in 2023 as a stray, but no owner ever came forward."She's really sweet, she's really lovable and she loves playing with other dogs," Ms Hoxberry added."But she is stressy, so she was actually in those kennels purely to keep her nice and calm because she can get overwhelmed when there's lots going on."It's heart-breaking that we've put her there to help her and she's been taken."The break-in happened between 00:15 and 00:45 BST on Tuesday, following the centre's first open day at the weekend. North Yorkshire Police confirmed they were investigating the burglary and have appealed for anyone with information to come Hoxberry said she did not know why the dogs were targeted, but believed it could be because of their breeds. "They could be wanting them for working dogs or possibly breeding," she said."Bella's been spayed, because we always spay and neuter our dogs, so if they've taken her for that then she's no use to them anyway." Man appears in court charged with Shara Miller's murder
A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was found dead at an industrial Singh, 31, from West Bromwich, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, charged with the murder of Shara Miller in Smethwick, in the West was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Miller, 41, was found off Woodburn Road just after 06:10 BST on Monday and confirmed dead at the scene. Shocking video has captured dozens of balaclava-clad bikers popping wheelies down a residential street, as one concerned local said it was a miracle no-one had been 'killed or seriously injured'. Pub landlord Lee Cooper, 52, says young people have been driving dangerously and speeding without helmets on the road outside The Stag pub in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, since he took over the venue four months ago. Video footage taken from the beer garden by a 'scared' customer, who asked not to be named, shows the shocking moment scores of youngsters sped past while riding off-road bikes and quadbikes on Sunday. Fed-up publican Lee said: 'None of them have any plates, most don't have helmets - they're phenomenally loud. It's like a biker gang rolling through town. It's horrific. 'It used to be two or three, but now it's getting more. 'They're dangerous, they're pulling wheelies and they're speeding up on a road which [has]old age pensioners and families. There's a lot of traffic and side roads, cars pulling off. 'How somebody hasn't been killed or seriously injured, I don't know. 'They should be prosecuted. Everyone that has a motor vehicle on the roads has to abide by the law.' Lee said that he 'never' sees the police - and he would like to see them do more to crack down on the behaviour. He added: 'I understand facilities are stretched, but this has been going on so it's not like they're not aware of it. 'They've had two or three months, it generally happens on a Saturday about a certain time, so why aren't they there? 'Wouldn't that be proactive, working on information they've already got instead of just ignoring the local community.' The sight of so many bikes speeding and being driven dangerously had 'scared' customers West Yorkshire Police's Sergeant Caroline Loran said: 'We and colleagues from the anti-social vehicle team are continuing to investigate following incidents of illegal and clearly dangerous riding in parts of Huddersfield on Sunday. 'I want to reassure residents that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to identify and bring to justice persons involved in this activity such as thorough checks of CCTV, including that at nearby garages, and enquiries regarding the vehicles used themselves. 'Since its formation in 2024 the off road team has seized hundreds of bikes being used illegally and carried out hundreds of prosecutions.
