Tambaram Corporation to open sixth evening clinic near Chitlapakkam
The clinic, functioning from 4 pm to 8 pm on all days except Sundays, is part of a state government initiative to provide extended medical services to those unable to access government facilities during regular hours. Haridosspuram was identified based on local demand for after-hours healthcare, civic officials said.
A senior staff said, 'Specialist doctors, nurses, and support staff will be deployed to ensure quality treatment. The clinic will serve residents referred by nearby Urban Primary Health Centres.'
As per the weekly schedule, the clinic will have a general physician on Mondays, obstetrics and gynaecology on Tuesdays, paediatrics on Wednesdays, ophthalmology and physiotherapy on Thursdays, dermatology and dental care on Fridays, and psychiatry on Saturdays.
TCMC has established five such evening clinics in Poondi Bazaar, Renganathapuram, Pammal, Peerkaranai, and Sembakkam, all of which have received positive feedback, especially from senior citizens, daily wage workers, and the urban poor, said officials.
Tambaram currently has a network of 40 urban health facilities-13 UPHCs and 18 Urban Health and Wellness Centres. Of these, 18 UHWCs function as polyclinics, offering morning and evening services.

Tambaram Corporation to give JE vaccine to 1.63L kids
CHENNAI: The Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) on Thursday launched a mass vaccination campaign to immunise 1,62,749 children aged between one and 15 years against Japanese Encephalitis (JE), a mosquito-borne viral disease that can cause severe brain inflammation, high fever and, in extreme cases, death or permanent neurological damage. The drive is part of the state government's decision to expand the JE vaccination programme to seven additional districts, including Tambaram in Chengalpattu district, in the light of the high number of cases between 2023 and 2025. Health officials told TNIE JE is spread through the bite of virus-infected Culex mosquitoes, which thrive in rural and peri-urban areas. The one-time campaign dose will later be included in the routine immunisation schedule. The rollout will be held in three phases: Phase 1 (Aug 14-Sept 12) for children aged 5-15 years in government and aided schools; phase 2 (Sept 13-Oct 12) for those aged 1-5 years through anganwadi centres; and phase 3 (Oct 13-Nov 12) in orphanages and juvenile reform schools. Camps will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays in each phase.

45K strays in Tambaram corporation to get anti-rabies vaccine
CHENNAI: While official numbers are yet to be released, primary reports of the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation's dog survey suggest that there may be 45,000 free-roaming stray dogs in the corporation area. With dedicated teams, TCMC is planning a large-scale Anti-Rabies Vaccination drive for all the 45,000 dogs within 50 days. The drive, titled COHAB (Cohabitation) as part of the city's public health initiative, is expected to break the rabies transmission among dogs and the risk of transmission to humans. COHAB would also help reduce rabies-related mortality in dogs and promote safer human-animal coexistence, alongside a probable decline in dog bite incidents. To ensure complete geographical coverage for the campaign, Tambaram has been divided into five operational zones. Each day, 10 dedicated teams will be deployed across these zones, which will vaccinate at least 100 dogs, bringing the total to 1,000 vaccinations per day. Each team comprises 10 members, divided into three specialised units- a catching unit (five members with a vehicle) for humane dog capture, a vaccinating unit (two vets with a dedicated vehicle), and a support unit (two assistants and one supervisor) tasked with record-keeping and operational support. The campaign will run six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, over a planned 45-day period. Additional five days have been set aside for mop-up. Although the civic body is aiming at 100% coverage, sources said that by the end of the drive, at least 80% of the dogs would have been covered. It may be noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a minimum of 70% vaccination coverage to prevent rabies transmission in the canine population.

Deoghar: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday urged the medical fraternity to "be clinical in diagnosis but not in behaviour", and be sympathetic towards people who consider them as God. The President was addressing the maiden convocation ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar at the temple city here. "Be clinical in diagnosis and surgery, but not in behaviour; be sensitive to people as they consider you as God. By adhering to moral values, compassion and charity, doctors can remove darkness from the lives of people," Murmu said. "As a Centre of Competence for tribals' health, AIIMS Deoghar should adopt more villages in addition to the existing five, and strive to become a model," she said, adding that women in tribal areas suffer from anaemia and malnutrition is common among children. Under these circumstances, doctors should extend their hands for social service. She lauded AIIMS Deoghar for sending anti-venom drugs to far-flung tribal areas through drones. The President said that she has a special connection with the institute, as when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid its foundation in 2018, she was the governor of Jharkhand. Although AIIMS, Deoghar, primarily focuses on tertiary healthcare, it should also actively provide guidance and support in the field of primary healthcare , she said and emphasised that primary care is the basis of universal health coverage. A team of doctors and students from AIIMS Deoghar should visit Urban Primary Health Centres and Rural Community Health Centres to assist physicians, the President said. She also requested doctors to make inclusive healthcare their principle at the personal level as well. The President told the graduating students that getting an education at AIIMS is considered a guarantee that they will become skilled doctors.
