Lee Dong-Wook Is A Thug Who Longs To Be A Poet In ‘The Nice Guy'

Lee Dong-wook fans, be warned. Lee's character gets stabbed within the first three minutes of The Nice Guy. And even after this brutal opening, you will likely want to watch the rest of this entertaining series to learn what happens to him. Why? It turns out he actually is a nice guy, despite his line of work.
Lee plays Park Seok-cheol, a character whose occupation includes stabbings as part of the job description. He's a thug but it wasn't a career choice. He grew up in the business as the grandson in a three-generation crime family. What he really wants to be is a poet, and not just because it involves fewer stabbings. He's not easily scared by guns or knives. Yet telling his dad that he wants out of the family business is too scary to contemplate.
The plot of The Nice Guy is seasoned with entertaining elements of several genres. There are good gangsters and not-quite-crooked cops, there's emotional family drama, a sweet romance, dark comedy and just enough action scenes to propel the story. Much of the family drama is supplied by Seok-cheol's older sister, Seok-kyung, played by Oh Na-ra ( My Mister) . She gambled their house away and then ran away, leaving her child behind. She too is terrified of facing her father, played by Cheon Ho-jin.

Through his other sister, Seok-hee (Ryeo Hye-young), Seokcheol reunites with his first love, Kang Mi-young (Lee Sung-kyung). Mi-young is a gifted singer and pianist with performance anxiety. She's also the classic k-drama heroine who works hard at multiple jobs and remains optimistic. She nobly works day and night to care for her mom. Such k-drama heroines are often rescued from their bad luck by the right man, often a rich man, but could the right man for her be Seok-cheol? He hasn't even figured out his own life yet. At least being a thug is more lucrative than being a poet.
The Nice Guy is Lee Dong-wook's third drama appearance in two years. He also appeared in The Divorce Insurance and the action-packed A Shop For Killers . Lee Sung-kyung can be seen in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, Shooting Stars and Dr. Romantic . Ryeo currently also plays a lawyer in Law and the City . She previously appeared in Gangnam B-side.
The JTBC drama is directed by Song Hae-sung and Park Hong-soo. It was written by Kim Woon-gyung and Kim Hyo-seok. It airs on Disney internationally and on Hulu in the U.S.

DEMON SLAYER: INFINITY CASTLE Shatters Records in Japan and Could Take Down MUGAN TRAIN — GeekTyrant

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is off to an incredible start in Japan, and the numbers suggest it might dethrone Mugen Train as the highest-grossing anime film of all time. The highly anticipated movie, adapted from Koyoharu Gotouge's Infinity Castle arc, didn't just have a strong debut, it blew past records. It now holds the crown for Japan's highest opening day ever with 1.64 billion yen ($11.11 million). On its third day, it pulled in another 2 billion yen ($13 million), the best single-day performance for any film in Japan. Its opening weekend was equally massive, bringing in $37 million across three days and an astonishing $49 million in four days. It's been breaking a bunch of opening records previously set by Mugen Train , and now it beat a previous record set by Mugen Train , Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and is now the fastest film to reach 10 billion yen in Japan's history, hitting the mark in only ten days. Fans worldwide eager to see the epic final battle will need to hang on a bit longer. This is the first of a trilogy wrapping up the saga, but an international rollout is staggered. According to Crunchyroll, the US and UK release date is set for September 12. That's when we'll see if this juggernaut can topple Mugen Train's $500 million global haul. Back in 2020, Mugen Train not only became the highest-grossing anime movie ever, surpassing Your Name , but it also ended up as the top-grossing film worldwide that year—beating Hollywood heavyweights like Tenet . Now, Infinity Castle is looking to claim that throne. If its record-breaking start is any indication, Demon Slayer fans could be witnessing history all over again.

Sophia Albarakbah: I didn't think Bella was being snide!

5 Aug - Sophia Albarakbah recently stated that she didn't think Bella Astillah was making a snide remark when she announced her as the winner of the Selebriti Feminin Terhangat (Hottest Female Celebrity) category at the Anugerah Melodi Terhangat (AMT) that was held on 3 August. The actress, who spoke to the media after winning the title at the event, said that she is not at all affected by Bella's comment that "I know her, I know her very well" before announcing her name as the winner, and was more focused on the fact that she won the category. "I didn't feel slighted. We are in the same industry. I am more focused on processing this idea that I have won. I am still surprised by it," she said. On the other hand, Bella immediately departed after the event concluded, sparking speculations that there are still tensions between the two parties. The singer herself won Best Celebrity Couple Goals alongside Muar MP, Syed Saddiq. Sophia and Bella had a fall out back in 2023, after the latter revealed that Sophia was the third party in her marriage with Aliff Aziz. However, she and Aliff ended their marriage in June 2024 after the singer was caught with actress Ruhainies. (Photo Source: Sophia Albarakbah IG, HibGlam)
