It has been speculated that Nunez could therefore be surplus to requirements - with Liverpool intending to sign a new No9 in his place.

Alexander Isak, of course, appears to be first choice in that regard but Liverpool will have to stump up another British record sum to land the £150m-rated Swede.
Liverpool willing to sell Darwin
Nunez's sale could therefore bring in some very welcome transfer income for sporting director Richard Hughes to follow on from the departure of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.
The striker is rated at around £70m - with the club having fielded bids from Saudi Arabia in January and Al-Hilal are again at the table this summer.
It is believed that Nunez favours a move to a European club but has already seen potential transfers to Atletico Madrid and Napoli disintegrate.

He will undergo a medical tomorrow morning to complete the €39m transfer, including add-ons. According to Sky Sport Italia, Napoli have resumed negotiations with Milan for the USMNT midfielder, having been so close to an agreement a couple of months ago. Back then, the offer was close to €25m including bonuses and deemed insufficient, as he cost €21.2m to buy from Valencia in 2023. Nottingham Forest remain interested and are expected to make a formal bid, but until then, the Partenopei are still in the running.
