Single window clearance for clearances to film shootings in the offing

The Hindu2 days ago

Hyderabad
The Telangana Government has focused its attention on developing Hyderabad as a hub of film related activities.
Accordingly, the government has decided to establish a single window clearance system for giving permissions to film shootings. In addition, a dedicated officer from the Film Development Corporation would be appointed to coordinate and expedite all required departmental approvals through this single window system.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced this during a meeting with senior officials on Tuesday. He has directed the Information Department and Film Development Corporation officials to prepare a detailed project report in this direction for transforming the city into a film capital. Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka is heading a cabinet subcommittee comprising Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and D. Sridhar Babu as members. The meeting discussed issues relating to promotion of the city as a film capital.
Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka said that the government envisaged the development of Hyderabad as a film city to attract major personalities from the film industry, both from across the country and abroad.
At present, those who want to shoot films in the state should obtain separate permissions from various departments like the police, fire, and municipal administration which was causing difficulties to film producers.
The Deputy Chief Minister said filming in various tourist destinations across the state would also contribute to the growth of the tourism sector. He expressed concern that exorbitant charges were being levied on food and other items being sold at canteens in cinema theatres. This was causing hardship for common people. He instructed officials to take steps to regulate prices so that common people were not inconvenienced.
Recalling that the Government had allocated 50 acre land to the Film Development Corporation in the past, the sub-committee directed officials to prepare a report on the current status of this land by the next meeting.
He directed the officials to organise the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards, scheduled to be held on June 14 in a grand and unprecedented manner and invitations should be extended to all prominent personalities in the country, especially those from film industry.

Fees on UPI payments of more than…? govt makes BIG revelations, says…

UPI payment- File image There were media reports that claimed that it is considering reintroducing MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) on UPI transactions above Rs 3,000. While smaller UPI payments will be exempted from it, larger transactions could potentially attract merchant fees, as claimed in the report. Some media reports had speculated that MDR might be reintroduced for transactions above Rs 3,000. They also claimed that it was for the banks and payment providers to manage their growing costs. The proposed MDR was reportedly based on transaction value, not merchant turnover, and exempt smaller payments. The reports also claimed this change could replace the zero-MDR policy implemented in January 2020. Govt On UPI Payment Fees The government clarified that it has no plans to introduce new regulations for UPI transactions. According to the government, such claims are baseless and unfounded. Speculation and claims that the MDR will be charged on UPI transactions are completely false, baseless, and misleading. Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion among our citizens. The Government remains fully committed… — Ministry of Finance (@FinMinIndia) June 11, 2025 Ministry Of Finance Said, ''Speculation and claims that the MDR will be charged on UPI transactions are completely false, baseless, and misleading. Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion among our citizens. The Government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI.'' Before the government issued its denial, some media outlets reported that banks and payment service providers had expressed concerns about the rising costs of managing large digital transactions. UPI currently accounts for about 80% of retail digital payments in India. The zero-MDR policy has reduced incentives for investment in the sector. Since 2020, UPI person-to-merchant transactions have reached a value of Rs 60 lakh crore in these cases large transactions are borned by the service providers.

ILO ranks India 2nd in social security for poor

Geneva: India has achieved a historic milestone in recording a 45 percentage point jump in the social security coverage of its population over the last decade to cover 94 crore people and is now being ranked second in the world on the dashboard of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). According to the latest ILO data, India's social security coverage has increased from 19 per cent in 2015 to 64.3 per cent in 2025, an unprecedented 45 percentage point surge over the past decade. ILO has acknowledged India's achievement and officially published on its dashboard that 64.3 per cent of India's population, i.e. over 94 crore people, are now covered under at least one social protection benefit. Director General ILO praised India's focussed welfare policies for the poor and labour class under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. ILO's Criteria for Scheme Consideration for each country include that the scheme should be legislatively backed, in cash and be active, and verified time series data of last three years has to be provided. While holding a bilateral discussion with the Director General, ILO, Gilbert F Houngbo on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference (ILC), India's Minister of Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the pro-poor and labour welfare schemes undertaken by the Modi government over the past 11 years. The Minister also apprised DG ILO about the national-level Social Protection Data Pooling Exercise that has been carried out by the Government in collaboration with the ILO. Mandaviya said, 'This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relentless efforts of the Government in building an inclusive and rights-based social protection ecosystem. The increase marks the fastest expansion in social protection coverage worldwide, reflecting the Government's unwavering commitment to 'Antyodaya' i.e., empowering the last mile and fulfilling the promise of leaving no one behind.' The present figure reflects only Phase I of the data pooling exercise. This phase focussed on beneficiary data of Central sector schemes and women-centric schemes in selected 8 States.

Baseless, false: Finance Ministry denies reports of fee on UPI transactions

The Finance Ministry on Wednesday rejected reports suggesting that a fee would be imposed on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, calling them 'completely false, baseless, and misleading'. 'Speculation and claims that the merchant discount rate (MDR) will be charged on UPI transactions are completely false, baseless, and misleading,' the ministry stated in a post on social media platform X. 'Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion among our citizens. The Government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI.' Understanding MDR and current policy MDR is a fee paid by merchants to banks for processing real-time digital transactions. Currently, UPI and RuPay debit card payments attract no MDR, a policy implemented through the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This zero-MDR regime has been in effect since it was announced in the FY22 Budget to boost digital adoption. Previously, merchants paid a fee of under 1 per cent of the transaction amount. With UPI becoming the dominant retail payments method and RuPay gaining traction, many experts argue that a complete waiver on MDR may no longer be sustainable. Industry appeals for MDR reinstatement Several industry stakeholders have questioned the long-term viability of the zero-MDR model, highlighting the cost burden on banks and payment service providers. Earlier this year, the Payments Council of India — representing digital payment service providers — wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the reintroduction of MDR. The council recommended a 0.3 per cent MDR on UPI payments made to large merchants and proposed a nominal, fixed MDR on all RuPay debit card transactions. Government maintains support through incentives To promote continued adoption, the Union Cabinet recently extended a ₹1,500 crore incentive scheme designed to compensate stakeholders for the cost of small-value UPI transactions. However, fintech firms have criticised the amount, arguing it is insufficient to support the surging volume of digital payments. UPI continues to show strong growth According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) annual report for FY25, digital payments have surged nationwide. UPI accounted for 185.8 billion transactions during the year — a 41.7 per cent increase from 131.1 billion in FY24.
