News185 days ago
Sony LIV's new series Court Kacheri premieres August 13. Starring Ashish Verma and Pavan Malhotra, it explores generational conflict in a small-town court.
Sony LIV is set to add a fresh twist to the legal drama space with Court Kacheri, an upcoming original series created by the team at TVF and directed by Ruchir Arun. The streamer released the trailer of the show on August 2, ahead of its premiere on August 13.
Set in a bustling small-town district court, Court Kacheri follows the journey of Param, a young man reluctantly pushed into the legal world by his father's towering presence in the courtroom. As he navigates a justice system fraught with power imbalances and moral compromises, Param is forced to confront difficult choices that challenge both his beliefs and his sense of identity.
At its core, the show explores generational conflict, the burden of legacy, and the internal resistance that comes with forging one's own path. Blending satire with drama, Court Kacheri promises a layered narrative filled with courtroom theatrics, emotional depth, and sharp social observations.
Pavan Malhotra, who plays the stern and seasoned advocate Harish Mathur, brings gravitas to the role of Param's father. Speaking about the character, Malhotra said in a media statement, 'Playing Harish was more than a role, it was a reflection. This show dives into the silent battles between generations, the weight of legacy, and the quiet rebellion of choosing your own path. It's emotional, real, and deeply relatable."
Ashish Verma leads the cast as Param, with strong support from Puneet Batra, Priyasha Bharadwaj, Bhushan Vikas, Kiran Khoje, Sumali Khaniwale, and Anandeshwar Dwivedi.
Billed as a legal drama that blends laughter with layered storytelling, Court Kacheri aims to move beyond courtroom clichés, offering viewers a more intimate look at personal dilemmas set against the backdrop of a chaotic legal system.
The series begins streaming on Sony LIV from August 13.

'Abuses Don't Bother Us': Himachal Brothers Who Married Same Bride Finally End Silence

Last Updated: Pradeep Negi said he has done nothing wrong and chose this marriage to uphold cultural values, with the aim of staying together and maintaining mutual love Two brothers from Shillai village in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district have made headlines after marrying the same woman, an unusual union that has drawn widespread media attention across India and abroad. After weeks of silence, the brothers have now spoken out to share their side of the story. The practice, known as Jodidar Pratha, involves multiple brothers marrying the same woman. Pradeep Negi, one of the newly-wed grooms, explained that this tradition has been prevalent for centuries and will continue in the future. He emphasised that Jodidar Pratha is not exclusive to their area but also exists in Jaunsar-Bawar, Uttarakhand. He mentioned that in many such marriages, both grooms exchange garlands. Pradeep's brother, Kapil Negi, clarified that unlike forced marriages in some states, their marriage was consensual. Both brothers and their bride are in agreement with this arrangement, and their family fully supports the union. Despite facing criticism on social media, Pradeep remains undeterred and committed to promoting their cultural customs. 'Some people are abusing us on social media, but it doesn't matter to me," Pradeep said. 'I will continue to promote our culture and customs. People who know nothing about our traditions are also trying to give their opinion. This marriage happened with the consent of all of us, and both our family and society are happy," he added. Pradeep said he has not done anything wrong and chose this marriage to uphold his cultural values. 'The purpose of this marriage is simply to stay together and maintain mutual love. We request people not to make negative remarks, we have our own lives, and we are happy in them," he said. The marriage, conducted with the consent of both families and the local society, took place between July 12 to 14. The Negi brothers, from Shillai village's Thindo family, married Sunita from Kunhat village, adhering to full rituals. Pradeep works in the Jal Shakti Department, while Kapil is employed as a chef abroad. The tradition of multiple brothers marrying one woman in the Hati community aims to prevent the division of property and land within the family. Historically, up to five brothers could marry the same woman, although this practice has diminished over time. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Siddhant Chaturvedi's Dhadak 2 Struggles At Box Office, Stands At Rs 15 Crore

Last Updated: Dhadak 2 was unable to capitalise on the Tuesday discount offer, earning only Rs 1.5 crore net. Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is facing a tough fight at the box office. Despite earning excellent reviews, the love drama has struggled to reach a larger audience. After a modest start, the movie experienced a little increase over the weekend but has been struggling to maintain pace on the weekdays. As per Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 grossed Rs 1 crore on its sixth day of release and could not enhance its performance on the first Wednesday. The film was unable to capitalise on the Tuesday discount offer, earning only Rs 1.50 crore net. Tuesday's numbers were expected to increase significantly due to the Rs 99 ticket deal handed out by numerous big theatres throughout the country. However, the jump was minor. Dhadak 2 Struggles On Its First Week The film opened with Rs 3.50 crore on Day 1, earning Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4 crore on Sunday, bringing its first weekend total to Rs 11 crore. According to reports, one of the primary reasons for Dhadak 2's poor performance is its ineffective marketing and promotional plan. Furthermore, the film has faced severe competition at the box office from Mahavatar Narsimha, Saiyaara and Son of Sardaar 2, all of which have diverted public attention away from the love drama. Dhadak 2 — Storyline And Cast Dhadak 2 follows Neelesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a lower-caste law student, and Vidhi (Triptii Dimri), an upper-caste girl, whose inter-caste love story is faced with societal hostility and discrimination. The film explores caste politics, injustice, and the difficulties that people experience when navigating traditional conventions. It is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. Apart from Siddhant and Triptii, the film also stars Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Sachdeva, Deeksha Joshi and Vipin Sharma in key parts. The film was meant to be released in November 2024, but it was repeatedly delayed, purportedly due to complications with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Siddhant Chaturvedi will next appear in the love drama Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, which stars Wamiqa Gabbi. Triptii Dimri will appear alongside Shahid Kapoor in Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming untitled action thriller. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kajol Refuses To Speak In Hindi, Gets Angry At Reporter: 'Jisko Samajhna Hai...'

In no time, the video went viral on social media with netizens expressing disappointment with Kajol's behaviour. Several users asked her to stop working in the Hindi film industry. Kajol left everyone shocked recently when she refused to talk in Hindi at an event in Mumbai. It all started when a paparazzo asked her to say something in Hindi since the Bollywood actress was addressing the media in Marathi. This seemingly left Kajol annoyed, who reacted angrily and said, 'Should I say it in Hindi now? Whoever wants to understand, will understand!" In no time, the video went viral on social media with netizens expressing disappointment with Kajol's behaviour. Several users condemned the actress' comment and asked her to stop working in the Hindi film industry. 'If she feels uncomfortable and ashamed to speak in the Hindi language, then she should stop working in Bollywood Hindi Movies. She should drop her double standards," one of the users wrote. 'Why is she working in Hindi films? She should work in Marathi films only, if they don't respect and hate Hindi, why do and translate ur movie in Hindi," added another. It should be noted that Kajol's comment comes at a time when a new debate over language is brewing in Maharashtra – speak Marathi if you live in the state. It all started in April this year when the Maharashtra government passed a decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. While the decision was rolled back, several incidents have been reported where alleged MNS workers got into a heated argument with people in Mumbai and Pune who refused to speak Marathi. Previously, actress Renuka Shahane also expressed her opinion on the rising issues of the language conflict and said, 'If you are in a place for a very long time, it's a good thing to understand the local language, the local culture and be respectful more than anything else…It's not about the speaking of it, much more than the intention of wanting to, you know, respect it. I do not like people who do not feel the necessity to be accommodating of the local language and local culture."
