Man City reject £6.5million bid from Bundesliga outfit for academy product - as defender pushes for permanent move after four loan spells
Manchester City have rejected a £6.5million bid from Hoffenheim for young defender Callum Doyle.
The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Norwich City in the Championship, has already racked up 158 senior appearances across four loan moves.
Doyle, an aggressive left-footed central half who is strong on the ball, is attracting the attention of a string of clubs in England and Europe.
Udinese are understood to be another monitoring his situation this summer but Bundesliga side Hoffenheim were first to test the waters.
City knocked back the first bid earlier in the month, although a the figures are close to being in line with the price academy stars who do not go on to make first-team appearances have left for.

Doyle wants a permanent switch this summer after spending the past four seasons at Sunderland, Coventry City, Leicester City and then Norwich.
The England Under-21 international is set to follow Juma Bah in departing after the Sierra Leonian opted for a switch to Nice in France.

One year on from the men's senior team beating the Netherlands in the Euros semi-final, the Young Lions followed suit, with Elliott's second-half double earning a 2-1 win in Bratislava. The 22-year-old, a Premier League champion with Liverpool, scored both goals, first putting his side ahead just after the hour and then firing a superb 86th-minute winner after Noah Ohio had levelled for the Dutch with his first touch. The Netherlands, who failed to have a shot in the first half, improved after the break and began asking questions. They tested James Beadle for the first time just before the hour when Aston Villa full-back Ian Maatsen drilled a 25-yard shot through a crowd of bodies, but the goalkeeper was equal to it. Just as England were being pushed back, they went ahead in the 62nd minute. Elliot Anderson set Elliott clear, he advanced into the box and fired a fine right-footed finish in at the near post. But the advantage was short-lived as Ohio made the perfect impact from the bench. Moments after coming on, the former Manchester United and Manchester City academy player scored with his first touch. He latched on to the ball after Charlie Cresswell miscontrolled, spotted Beadle out of position and shot first time from the left wing into the near post. But England were not going to be denied and some Elliott heroics sent them into the final for just the second time since 2009. He picked the ball up 30 yards out, turned his marker, beat another man and advanced into the penalty area before whipping a low shot into the bottom corner.

Former Wales boss Rob Page joins Liverpool
Liverpool have appointed former Wales manager Rob Page as the head coach of their Under-21s. Page, who has managed Wales in two of the four major tournaments in their history, has returned to coaching to replace Barry Lewtas, who stepped down earlier this month. The 50-year-old is a former Wales Under-21 manager before becoming Ryan Giggs' assistant with the senior side and then taking charge when the former Manchester United player was put on leave. Page took Wales to the last 16 of Euro 2020 and then their first World Cup in 64 years, though they only earned one point in Qatar in 2022. The former Northampton and Port Vale manager was sacked by Wales last summer after a four-year reign and now takes charge of Liverpool's Under-21 squad, which includes talents such as Trey Nyoni, Kaide Gordon, Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, James McConnell, Owen Beck, Amara Nallo, Rio Ngumoha and Isaac Mabaya. Liverpool's academy director Alex Inglethorpe said: 'Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from academy prospect to first-team footballer. 'His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves but perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in charge of the national team, which saw numerous pathway players make it into the senior squad. 'This is something we have seen first-hand at Liverpool with several of our academy players making significant progress on the international stage under Rob's guidance. 'This level of experience in transitioning young footballers towards the professional game and on to the highest levels of domestic and international football will be a significant resource for all at the academy, especially the players.
