Captain Sanju Samson's relationship with Rajasthan Royals has not exactly been the way it used to be and he has decided to part ways with the franchise. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, Sanju Samson has told Rajasthan Royals that he wants to be released ahead of the upcoming auction for IPL 2026 season.
The report added that Samson informed the RR management of his intention immediately after IPL 2025 ended. The Rajasthan Royals have already started to explore different franchises to trade Sanju before the IPL 2026 auction. (Pic Credit: IANS) Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is reportedly considering a move away from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the IPL 2026 auction. He is said to have had discussions with CSK about his role and future. Notably, Ashwin, who was bought by CSK for ₹9.75 crore in the 2025 mega auction, played only nine of 14 matches. The right-arm spinner has publicly sought clarity from CSK about his role and if he doesn't fit into their plans for IPL 2026, he is likely to be released or traded before the auction. Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Rajasthan Royals to acquire Sanju Samson via trade. KKR are considering trading Angkrish Raghuvanshi (valued at Rs 3 crore) and Ramandeep Singh (Rs 4 crore) in a deal for Samson, whose trade value is Rs 18 crore. The proposed deal would require KKR to pay a substantial cash amount to balance the trade. (Pic Credit: IANS) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs. 8.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, he didn't perform up to the expectations for RCB in the IPL 2025 season, scoring only 112 runs in 10 matches with an ordinary average of 16.00 and picked just two wickets.
Livingstone was dropped from RCB's playing XI in the middle of the tournament and was later recalled in place of injured Tim David during the knockouts. Given his ordinary performance during IPL 2025 season, RCB might consider releasing or trading Livingstone before the IPL 2026 auction. (Pic Credit: IANS) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav was retained by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 11 crore before the IPL 2025 season. However, Mayank's performance in the IPL 2025 was severely limited due to injuries. He played only two matches for the LSG and picked two wickets during the season. The young pacer struggled with his consistency and fitness, which reflected in his high economy rate of 12.50.
Given his injury prone nature and high salary, LSG might consider releasing or trading Mayank before the IPL 2026 auction and look for another impactful fast bowler. (Pic credit: IANS) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a massive Rs. 11.40 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. However, Ishan has failed to perform up to the expectations in the IPL 2025 season. The 26-year-old Ishan started his IPL 2025 with a century against Rajasthan Royals. However, he failed to produce big knocks after that century, scoring 354 runs in 14 matches of IPL 2025 so far. Considering his high salary and low return, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) might consider releasing or trading Ishan before the IPL 2026 auction. (Pic Credit: IANS) Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Glenn Maxwell was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs. 4.2 crore during the IPL mega auction. PBKS had high expectations from him but he had a disappointing season. The 36-year-old Maxwell scored only 48 runs and picked 4 wickets in seven matches of the IPL 2025 before getting ruled out of the tournament due to a broken finger.
It's not for the first that Maxwell has disappointed an IPL team with his performance. He has had only a few good seasons in the IPL so far. Given his disappointing performance, PBKS might consider releasing or trading Maxwell to free up funds and buy a more impactful performer during the IPL 2026 auction. He picked 11 wickets in 14 matches at a high economy of 9.17. Given his high salary and low return, Mumbai Indians might consider releasing or trading Deepak before the IPL 2026 auction. Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly keen on getting India's wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul in a high-profile trade from Delhi Capitals, ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Rahul, who was bought for ₹14 crore by Delhi Capitals during the mega auction in Saudi Arabia, produced impactful performances for the team during IPL season. Now, Gill's a smash hit with brands

Gill MUMBAI: Indian cricket's latest blue-eyed boy, Shubman Gill , is the new favourite with brands. His stellar performance in the India-England Test series, both as captain and batsman, had already bolstered his brand value. Now, Gill's selection for the Asia Cup as vice-captain will only give further impetus to his brand equity. A Gen Z with much of his career ahead of him, Gill has all the chops a brand looks for. "Gill's brand value has appreciated by 30%-40% post the India-England series. His brand fees will increase anywhere in the range of 25%-50% depending on the kind of brand approaching him," Neeraj Jha, senior sports analyst and commentator, told TOI. From automobiles to global luxury brands, queries for Gill have shot up from an average of three to four per month to about 10-15 now, sources aware of discussions said. Gill currently charges endorsement fees in the range of Rs 4-5 crore for one brand per year. That can now easily go up to anywhere between Rs 6-8 crore, said Neerav Tomar, managing director and CEO at IOS Sports. Another analyst said that a few of his earlier deals were in the range of Rs 2-Rs 3.5 crore. "Gill already endorses close to 20 brands, and this number should go up. Youthful brands will seek new faces. Gill is the new Virat Kohli ," Tomar said. Gill's team, however, declined to comment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo The cricketer bagged a few big deals before the Test series. Tyre major MRF and global eyewear brand Oakley (for India) signed Gill as their brand ambassadors. Gill also expanded his associations with Casio and Coca-Cola during the year. From about eight brand associations in 2023, Gill's brand portfolio nearly doubled to 16 in 2025. The cricketer is estimated to have earned about Rs 40 crore in endorsement earnings in 2024. "A lot of MNCs are looking to sign Gill. Small brands can't afford him. His fees will only go up if he keeps on delivering," said Amitesh Shah, founder and CEO at sports, media, and entertainment company Legaxy, who estimates Gill's brand value to see a boost of over 40%. Sources said that Gill is "selective" about his brand partnerships, ensuring alignment with his values and career journey. Going ahead, perenniality (ability to deliver across all cricket formats) will be key for Gill to bag big brand deals, said Sandeep Goyal, chairman at Redifussion. "Perenniality leads to continued visibility, which is key to the endorsement game," said Goyal. Karnataka Assembly Passes Crowd Control Bill 2 Months After Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede

Last Updated: Key provisions of the bill include a strong emphasis on accountability and safety, mandating several requirements for event organisers In a significant legislative move, the Karnataka assembly has passed the 2025 Crowd Control Bill. The new law comes two months after the stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 during an event to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the Indian Premier League (IPL). The incident that killed 11 people and injured many others prompted the government to establish a robust legal framework for public gatherings. The bill was introduced by state home minister Dr G Parameshwara and has been cleared by the assembly. Key provisions of the bill include a strong emphasis on accountability and safety, mandating several requirements for event organisers. Mandatory Event Details and Safety Measures Event organisers are now required to submit a comprehensive application for an event permit. This application must include detailed information on the purpose of the event, the anticipated crowd size, clear outline of the safety measures and protocols that will be implemented to ensure the crowd's well-being and prevent any mishaps. The new law gives district magistrates the authority to postpone, cancel, or change the venue of an event if there's a risk of public unrest or breach of peace. The bill also includes stringent penalties for violations. Organisers who fail to comply with the law may face imprisonment for up to three years and fines up to Rs 5 lakh. In cases of injury or death due to negligence, the organiser is liable to pay compensation. The passing of this bill is seen as a crucial step by the Karnataka government to prevent future tragedies and ensure the safety of citizens at large-scale events. view comments First Published: August 21, 2025, 04:26 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Torch relay of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan kicks off from Sangrur, to conclude at Hoshiarpur on Aug 29

The torch relay for the Punjab government's sports festival, Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, commenced Wednesday from War Heroes Stadium, Sangrur. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandeep Rishi flagged off the relay. On the occasion, veteran athlete and chairman of Market Committee Dhuri, Rajwant Singh Ghulli, SDM Sangrur Charanjot Singh Walia, District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh, along with a large number of players and the general public, were present. During the relay, the torch was carried through the city by international athletes including Parmjeet Kaur (handball), Gursewak Singh Cheema and Dakshnu Singh (roller skating), Harshdeep Kaur (weightlifting), along with several other state-level players. Rishi informed that the opening ceremony of the games will be held on August 29 at Hoshiarpur. The torch relay will travel across all districts of Punjab before culminating at Hoshiarpur on August 29. The schedule for block, district, and state-level games has already been released. Competitions will be held between September 3 and November 23, 2025 at various stadiums in the villages, towns, and cities across Punjab. It is noteworthy that, like previous years, more than five lakh players across 37 sports disciplines and nine age categories will compete for medals this year. Winners will receive cash prizes worth over Rs 9 crore. Last year, para-athletics, badminton, and powerlifting were also included under the para category of these games. Sharing the route plan, the DC stated that the relay will cover the following districts: Sangrur, Barnala, and Mansa (August 20); Bathinda and Sri Muktsar Sahib (August 21); Fazilka and Faridkot (August 22); Ferozepur and Tarn Taran (August 23); Sri Amritsar Sahib and Gurdaspur (August 24); Pathankot, Kapurthala, and Jalandhar (August 25); Moga and Ludhiana (August 26); Malerkotla, Patiala, and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib (August 27); Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Rupnagar (August 28); and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar before concluding at Hoshiarpur (August 29). The DC added that the purpose of organising such a large-scale sports festival is to 'channelise the immense energy of youth in a positive direction', keeping them away from the menace of drugs and provide support to the Punjab government's ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign. Moreover, the games will give young boys and girls an opportunity to further develop their sporting talent, Rishi said. He appealed to the youth of Sangrur to actively participate in these games.
