KPN Aims To Get 10,000 Students To Join IPIM Within A Year
Its Deputy Minister, K. Saraswathy said the IPIM programme, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Department of Museums Malaysia and the Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to produce a generation that is historically and culturally literate, towards building racial unity.
She said that this year, a total of 41 museums in Malaysia are involved in the implementation of the IPIM programme, including federal, state and institutional museums.
"There are five sessions in the IPIM programme, namely briefing sessions by museum officials, teaching and learning (PdP) sessions, visits to galleries, reinforcement activities and reflections to test the level of student understanding towards the sessions conducted.
"The IPIM pilot project was implemented in 2015. In 2020, there were plans for the programme to be physically implemented, but it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and it resumed in 2021,' she said at the launch of the 2025 national-level IPIM Programme at the Terengganu State Museum here today.
Also present was state Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris.
Saraswathy said that 1,680 students joined the IPIM programme that was held simultaneously at 41 museums nationwide today.
"KPN always supports efforts by any institution in Malaysia to create togetherness and unity in the country.
"KPN hopes that the IPIM programme can foster a spirit of unity and harmony, as well as diversity of the community, thus fueling a sense of love for the country,' she said.

Penang To Host Major ASEAN Naval Events With 10 Warships Docking
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Penang will take centre stage in regional maritime defence as the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) hosts three key ASEAN naval events from Aug 15 to 22 under Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025. The week-long programme includes the 19th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM), the Third ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX) and the ASEAN Fleet Review (AFR), with activities across George Town and Batu Ferringhi. The ANCM Working Committee deputy chairman Rear Admiral Datuk Mohd Fadzli Kamal Mohd Mohaldin told Bernama that the events will feature ten warships, seven from ASEAN countries and three from RMN, bringing about 1,600 naval personnel to Penang's Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal. He said the programme begins with the arrival of the vessels on Aug 15. It will be followed by the AMNEX Opening Ceremony and its 'Port Phase' on Aug 16, which allows naval officers to finalise plans for the joint sea exercises. The RMN will also host the Naval Engineering Conference (NEC), a scientific forum uniting regional naval engineers to discuss innovations under the theme 'Innovation and Technology Towards Improving Ship Survivability at Sea'. A highlight open to the public is the ASEAN Navies' City Parade (ANCP) on Aug 17 at the Esplanade in Padang Kota Lama, held alongside Penang's Hari Buletin 4.0 event. The parade commemorates the historic 1990 International Royal Fleet Review, which saw 59 warships and over 11,000 naval personnel visit Penang. Visitors will also have the rare opportunity to tour the docked warships at Swettenham Pier, gaining insights into the latest naval technologies. The programme includes the various contingents' parade, local agency display, cultural performances, maritime asset salutes and RMN helicopter flypasts. The 19th ANCM, a high-level meeting of ASEAN naval commanders to strengthen maritime cooperation and trust, will convene on Aug 19 at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort in Batu Ferringhi. Delegates will then attend the ASEAN Chief Navy (CN) Interaction Programme at Penang Hill on Aug 20. The grand finale, the ASEAN Fleet Review on Aug 21, will see all participating warships sail in formation through the northern strait, a spectacle visible from Butterworth and George Town.

Perak to set up temporary shelters for stray animals
IPOH: The Perak government is planning to establish temporary shelters for stray animals to tackle the rising issue of abandoned pets. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the state is collaborating with NGOs to identify suitable locations. 'These shelters will be managed by NGOs with minimal state facilitation while long-term solutions like adoption centres are explored,' she said. She added that the shelters will provide care for strays, particularly those involved in public complaints. Sandrea spoke at a press conference after launching the 2025 Perak Pawsitive Initiative for Kinta district. The event was graced by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, who visited exhibition booths at the Malaysian Red Crescent Hall. Also present were Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, wife of the Perak Menteri Besar, and Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee Chuan How. Sandrea highlighted that the stray population surge is often due to irresponsible pet owners failing to neuter their animals. 'As of April, local authorities received 1,421 dog-related complaints, showing the severity of the issue,' she said. She noted that the state has run subsidised neutering campaigns and awareness programmes through the Friends of Pawsitive Initiative. Additional efforts include photography and art competitions, as well as pet adoption drives. By June 23, 2025, 301 dogs and 254 cats were neutered, with 498 local authority licences issued under the initiative.
