Man seriously injured in suspected feud-related incident among Roma community
A man has been seriously injured in what is suspected to be a feud-related hit and run incident among members of the Roma community in a sea-side town.
The horror incident unfolded in Balbriggan, north County Dublin on Monday night when it's understood a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Railway Street. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.
Shortly afterwards in a second incident a black BMW 3 series was rammed close to Balbriggan Garda Station on Drogheda Road at around 9pm.
The Garda Public Order unit was deployed last night after it was diverted from a football match at Dalymount Park as tensions mounted in the seaside town.
'The feuding between the Roma community has been simmering for a few weeks until now,' a source told Irish Mirror. 'On Monday night gardai were receiving calls from every Roma address in the town. It's gone wild.'

In a video of the aftermath, seen by Irish Mirror, a black BMW 3 series is parked on the road with the driver door smashed completely in while a number of people are seen standing around on the street.
A black unmarked garda SUV is seen parked in the middle of the road while a number of officers are present at the scene.
In a statement last night, An Garda Siochana said: 'Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic incident on Railway Street, Balbriggan, which occurred shortly after 9pm on Monday, 23rd June 2025.
'The alarm was raised after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.
'The area is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place. No additional information is currently available. Further updates will follow.'

Second man arrested in follow-up operation after 3D-printed gun seized
Gardaí have arrested a second man in connection with the seizure of a firearm in Dublin on Tuesday night. While on routine patrol along Turvey Avenue, Inchicore, Dublin 8 at around 8pm on Tuesday night uniform Gardaí from Kilmainham (Community Engagement) Garda Station observed two males of interest entering a taxi. On stopping the taxi the Gardaí were met by a strong smell of cannabis. Both males were informed they were going to be searched under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. One of the males was found to be wearing a ballistic vest and in possession of a substantial sum of money. As he was being searched, a .22 calibre pistol fell from being concealed in the ballistic vest. The firearm seized is now subject to full technical examination. Gardaí arrested the man in his 20s in connection with the seizure and detained him under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in Dublin. He has been charged in connection with the case and is scheduled to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court No. 4) on Thursday, June 26 at 10:30am. In the course of a follow-up operation on Wednesday, June 25, investigating Gardaí conducted a search of a residential property in Dublin's inner city. A second male, aged in his 20s, was arrested during the operation. He is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, at a Garda station in the Dublin Region. Speaking about last night's seizure Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary said, "I want to acknowledge and commend the work of two uniform members of An Garda Síochána yesterday evening going about their duties diligently and proactively. "This was a timely intervention likely to have saved lives or prevented serious injury and is another dangerous firearm which has been taken off the streets of Dublin. Investigation launched after teenage girl sexually assaulted near Irish school
Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a teenager near a school in Co Down. Detectives from the Police Service Rape Crime Unit (RCU) in Northern Ireland are investigating the assault on a teenage girl in the Samson's Lane area, off the Ardglass Road in Downpatrick, shortly after 8.30am on Tuesday, June 24. No exact details have been released by the PSNI in relation to any suspects at this time, reports Belfast Live. Local District Commander Superintendent Norman Haslett said: "I want to reassure the community that a dedicated, skilled and specialist trained team of Detectives are working at pace to support the victim of this crime and to progress the investigation. Woman, her brother and another man accused of rape of her young daughter
Two men and a woman have gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court accused of the sexual abuse of a young girl. The complainant's mother, her uncle, and another man face a total of 21 counts of sexual assault and rape, which allegedly occurred on dates between 2000 and 2014, mainly at the family home within the three defendants cannot be named for legal reasons. They deny wrongdoing and have pleaded not guilty to all charges. The complainant's mother, who is in her 50s, has pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of sexual assault on dates between 2000 and 2009, and between 2012 and 2014, primarily at the family home. She also pleaded not guilty to one count of rape, in that she facilitated the rape of the complainant by her uncle. The complainant's maternal uncle, who is in his 40s, has pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one of oral rape on dates between 2003 and 2012, all at the same family home. A second man, aged in his 50s, has pleaded not guilty to one count of oral rape between 2008 and 2009 at the same address. The jury has heard he was a friend of the accused woman's then partner. She said this case involved allegations of child sexual abuse and that cases of this nature do not tend to happen 'beneath CCTV' or in places where there are witness, but 'behind closed doors' and 'in secret'. Prosecuting counsel outlined that the complainant lived with her mother and other adult relatives as a young child. She said they would hear that alcohol was a factor for adults in the household. Ms Lawlor said the girl shared a room with her mother until she was approximately eight years old. It is alleged that the complainant's mother first sexually assaulted her when she was three-and-a-half. The mother is alleged to have told the girl this was to be their secret. Prosecuting counsel said the complainant is expected to say that her mother continued to sexually assault her until she was about 12. The mother sexually assaulted the girl for a final time when she was about 15. Ms Lawlor said the prosecution's case is that the girl was around six when she was first raped by her uncle. She told the jury that the mother allegedly brought the complainant to her uncle's bedroom and was present while he raped her. Ms Lawlor told jurors that the law states that someone who 'aids and abets' the commission of an offence can be tried for that offence. She said that the prosecution case is that the complainant's uncle allegedly performed the physical act of rape and that this was 'facilitated' by the woman. It is also alleged that the complainant's uncle raped her on other occasions, including an incident of oral rape when she was around eight years old. Ms Lawlor told the court that the second man was a friend of the woman's then-partner. When the girl was about 11, he allegedly orally raped her, telling her afterwards 'your mother knows'. Ms Lawlor suggested to the jury that the issue of consent may be less relevant in this case as a child under 15 cannot give consent. She said the defendants say these events did not happen. The trial continues before Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and a jury.
