'Star Trek' Star Comes to Castmate's Defense Following Criticism
Star Trek: Strange New World star Anson Mount came to his castmate Adrian Holmes' defense.
During a July 2025 appearance on the Inside of You podcast, hosted by actor Michael Rosenbaum, Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike, discussed criticism from some Star Trek viewers about Holmes being cast as Admiral Robert April. Before Holmes began starring on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the character was only seen in Star Trek: The Animated Series.
"How did you feel about the negative criticism over the casting of Adrian Holmes as Captain April, a character that had been shown as a white man in the animated series?" asked Rosenbaum during the podcast interview.
Mount replied that the criticism was unacceptable.
"It pissed me off. It really pissed me off. And I really felt disappointed in a least a few people's lack of ... I mean is that really as deep as character goes for you?" said Mount.
In addition, he said he "actually reached out to Adrian when that happened and told him there was never any conversations like that on this set and there never will be."
"We think he's doing an amazing job. And he did. And he does now," said Mount to Rosenbaum.
The actor then said he believes "the culture wars have gotten so bad it's gotten to the point where if you cast a Black actor in anything, somebody's going to scream woke."
Holmes spoke about playing Admiral April during a 2022 interview with PST Network. He said he was pleased being apart of such an iconic franchise because he loves science fiction. In addition, he said he likes the values of Star Trek.
"It's so forward thinking, it's so progressive, and it deals with so many issues like using racism with the aliens and things like that. They are a very forward thinking and progressive show and I'm honored to be apart of it, playing Admiral April," said Holmes during the 2022 interview.

Brandon Blackstock's death certificate says seizures played significant role
More details of the death of Brandon Blackstock, the talent manager and former husband of Kelly Clarkson, have come to light ahead of his Aug. 17 memorial service. A death certificate, officially filed Thursday in Butte, Montana, confirmed the 48-year-old died of natural causes related to malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. But the father of four, who battled cancer for three years, also suffered from seizures. They were listed as 'significant conditions contributing to death but not resulting in the underlying cause,' according to the documents obtained by TMZ and People. Blackstock died on Aug. 7 at his home in Butte while under hospice care, according to the Silver Bow County coroner, who initially confirmed the details of his cancer to People. Though Blackstock was known for overseeing the careers of Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton and at one time Clarkson, his death certificate listed his occupation as a producer in the rodeo industry. The documents also confirmed that an autopsy was not performed and that Blackstock was cremated. An online obituary for Blackstock made no mention of Clarkson, but did name her former production assistant Brittney Marie Jones — referring to her his 'beautiful and loving partner in life and business.' According to Us Weekly, an insider revealed that Jones 'moved to Montana' and helped Blackstock build his Valley View Rodeo in 2023. Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013. The couple later welcomed two children — daughter River, now 11, and son Remington, 9 — before the 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)' singer filed for divorce in 2020. Following a messy legal battle, the pair finalized their divorce in March 2022. Prior to his relationship with the Grammy and Daytime Emmy winner, Blackstock was married to Melissa Ashworth from 2001 to 2012, with whom he shared 23-year-old daughter Savannah and 18-year-old son Seth. He was expecting his third grandchild before his death.

He briefly got up and then fell to the ground, prompting a rush of medical personnel onto the field. After providing CPR, Hamlin was loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. The game was suspended and postponed. In the meantime, Hamlin spent time on a ventilator before being able to talk to his family and breathe on his own on Jan. 6. Sydney Sweeney's ‘Americana': Do Rotten Tomatoes Reviews Laud The Film?
Sydney Sweeney's new dark crime comedy Americana is new in theaters this weekend. How are Rotten Tomatoes critics reacting to the film amid the actor's American Eagle commercial controversy? Written and directed by Tony Tost, Americana opens in limited release in theaters on Friday. The film surrounds a rare Native American artifact and how various groups clash to gain possession of it. Ben Kenigsberg of The New York Times is among the top critics on RT who gives Americana a 'fresh' rating, calling the film in his review summary 'a slick and skillful debut feature from the writer-director Tony Tost.' Valerie Complex of Deadline Hollywood Daily also gives Americana a 'fresh' rating on RT, writing, 'Tony Tost's direction manages to avoid the common pitfalls first-time directors encounter by overcomplicating things, but the director keeps it simple by letting characters work within their frame.'
