After losing contact in 1977, family reunited with remains of Akron man who died in 2024
The medical examiner's office originally sought assistance in locating family for Randy Lee Brown when his decomposed body was discovered at his residence in the 1100 block of LaCroix Avenue, Gary Guenther, chief investigator of the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, said. Guenther said he lived there alone at the time.
Officials received a tip that Brown was originally from Colorado and may still have family that lived there. The medical examiner's office worked with Colorado law enforcement, and determined that Brown's family filed a missing person report in June 2024. The family indicated they last had contact with him in 1977.
"For years, they were left wondering about his whereabouts," the Facebook post read.
The medical examiner's office determined Brown moved to San Jose, California after leaving Colorado, and eventually moved to Akron in the late 1980s to early 1990s.
Brown's sister submitted a DNA sample and in March 2025, a positive match of the samples was made at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The family is currently working with the medical examiner's office to determine what to do with Brown's remains.
Officials are still investigating Brown's cause of death, Guenther confirmed.

Father Of Boston Celtics Star Jaylen Brown Arrested For Attempted Murder
On Thursday morning, TMZ Sports dropped a bombshell report involving Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. His father, former boxer Marselles Brown, was arrested for attempted murder. Brown, the No. 3 pick from the 2016 NBA Draft, has lived up to the hype for the Celtics. He's an NBA Finals MVP and four-time All-Star. Boston failed to defend its championship this past season, but it wasn't because of Brown. The Georgia native averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Unfortunately for Brown, he'll now have to deal with drama off the court. According to TMZ, his father allegedly stabbed a youth football coach on Wednesday. This allegedly happened because of a dispute over a parking spot at All American Park. Las Vegas Metro Police said the suspect, Marselles Brown, fled the scene before being tracked down and taken into custody. Brown's father is set to appear in court later this Thursday. TMZ is reporting that the coach who was stabbed during this alleged incident was rushed to a nearby hospital and needed surgery. His condition hasn't been revealed at this time. If we had to guess, more details regarding this situation will be released in the coming days. Brown's father was a champion boxer. Marselles Brown used his 86-inch reach to his advantage during his boxing career, owning a 33-18-1 record with 25 knockouts. Although he turned pro in 1989, some of the best moments of his career came in the 2010s. In 2016, Marselles won the World Boxing Union World Championship. He said he came out of retirement to inspire his children. 'My main motivation for coming out of retirement was to show my kids that I never gave up on my dreams,' Marselles said in an interview with "I didn't want them to give up on theirs." Will this impact Brown's 2025 season with the Celtics? There was some buzz about the Celtics moving Brown this offseason. At the end of the day, the front office wisely held onto him. He's too valuable to part ways with, especially since he's just 28 years old. Although this is a very concerning situation for Brown and the Celtics, it shouldn't impact his status on the roster. Besides, he has proven time and time again that he's a true professional. As of now, Brown hasn't commented on his father's situation. He's currently getting ready for his 10th season with the Celtics. This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 21, 2025, where it first appeared in the NBA section.
