Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on the team's innovation: 'Keep growing'
During his press conference on Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discussed the importance of staying innovative and unpredictable.
"I think every coach would probably tell you that, but I think it's important that you keep growing," said Reid, "There are some lessons (that) you can learn out of that, and I told you before (that) I thought the attitude that they had coming out of that (Super Bowl LIX loss), I look for that. 'Are you going to take responsibility?' These guys took responsibility for it. That gives you an opportunity to improve – coaches and players. If you come in and start pointing the finger at each other, you can't grow, but these guys have done that and have had a great attitude this offseason."
The Chiefs are consistently praised for their coaching staff's willingness to expand their playbooks and take calculated risks. Head coach Andy Reid's offense will have more opportunities to showcase its strengths, while Steve Spagnuolo's defensive vision for the unit is evolving.
The offseason workout practices allow players to create and implement these new ideas.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice anticipates 'explosive' 2025: 'Excited to put on a show'

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice anticipates 'explosive' 2025: 'Excited to put on a show' Show Caption Hide Caption Greg Olsen believes Travis Kelce 'controls how he leaves the game' Former NFL tight end Greg Olsen has high praise for Travis Kelce and shares when he believes Travis Kelce will eventually retire from the NFL. Sports Seriously The Kansas City Chiefs fell just one win short last season of becoming the first NFL team to secure three consecutive Super Bowl titles. Despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, Kansas City's historic fifth appearance in the big game in the last six years marked an incredible feat by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Kansas City finished the regular season with a 15-2 record, even though the offense struggled at times to score touchdowns, finishing 22nd in red zone efficiency. A significant reason behind the offense's floundering was perhaps the absence of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. He appeared to be quickly becoming the No. 1 receiver for Kansas City and the playmaker the offense had been searching for since trading Tyreek Hill during the 2022 offseason. Rice appears to be rejuvenated and excited for what lies ahead in 2025. "Wide receiver group, we're going to be explosive this year," Rice told KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson. "We're just excited to put on a show to be honest. We know it's gonna be a show. Only thing in the way right now is time, so we're just waiting patiently." Rice had accumulated a team-high 288 receiving yards on 24 receptions and two touchdowns before his injury. His absence was a significant blow to the offense. The Chiefs finished 16th in yards per game, marking the first time since Mahomes took over they finished outside of the top ten in that category. Justin Watson (Texans), Mecole Hardman (Packers) and DeAndre Hopkins (Ravens) all departed in free agency. Travis Kelce will lace them up for a 13th season, although he will turn 36 later this year. Alongside Rice in the wide receiver room is 2024 first-round pick Xavier Worthy. Additionally, the reigning AFC champs re-signed veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Hollywood Brown to one-year contracts. Rice has been feverishly focused on his recovery as he looks to be a key cog in the offense. "It's a hard process," Rice said. "If you love the game enough, it's nothing that can really take you away or discourage you that you can't get the job done." The Chiefs' offense has the potential to bounce back, and their first opportunity to do so in 2025 will come against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, Sept. 5 in Brazil.

Dave Portnoy reveals whether Pat Mahomes Sr. vs. John Rocker fight could be revived

For better or worse, the celebrity boxing match between John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. appears to be dead. A bout between the dad of the Chiefs' superstar quarterback and the former Braves closer that was initially set for April has been officially cancelled, Barstool's Dave Portnoy told TMZ Sports. 'That fight ain't gonna happen,' Portnoy said. 'The Mahomeses shut that down. I think Patrick, the quarterback, was like, 'Why the hell is my dad fighting John Rocker in Rough N' Rowdy?' So, he got in the middle of it. They got in the middle of it and didn't allow it to happen.' 3 Patrick Mahomes looks on after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 19, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs defeated the Titans 35-24. Getty Images Portnoy previously said on 'The Unamed Show' that the fight fell apart after Patrick Mahomes II's wife, Brittany, and his agent intervened. 'Mahomes' agent, the football player, and Brittany — from what I am told — intervened and were like, 'There's no way this fight's happening. We're going to cut this guy off if he does it,' Portnoy said. 'They came to us … they hated each other and wanted to fight,' Portnoy added, indicating that the idea originated with Rocker and Mahomes Sr. themselves. The bout was arranged under Barstool's 'Rough 'N Rowdy' banner, and TMZ reports that Mahomes Sr. signed a contract in mid-January to appear on the April card. Court records obtained by TMZ indicate he would have made at least $85,000 from the bout. The fight gained early buzz during Super Bowl week when Rocker and Mahomes Sr. staged an altercation in New Orleans, an act Mahomes later admitted was staged was for publicity. 'Instead of fighting today he backed out like a little bitch because his son and his loser wife decided it'd be a bad look to the family name for him to get in the ring,' he wrote, then added, 'Bunch of f–king woke liberals.' While Rocker continues to vent, Portnoy confirmed in a follow-up that 'there's no chance' the fight will be rescheduled. 3 Barstool founder and CEO Dave Portnoy is seen before the Florida Atlantic Owls and Loyola (Il) Ramblers game in the Barstool Invitational at Wintrust Arena on November 8, 2023 in Chicago, Illinois. Getty Images Both Rocker and Mahomes last pitched in the majors in 2003. The attention Rocker draws outweighs his professional success. He pitched five full seasons, most notably for the Atlanta Braves from 1998-01, where he was their closer, though his play has since been overtaken by his controversial comments on various subjects over the years, along with admitting to steriod use. Mahomes pitched in the majors from 1992-03, most notably out of the Mets bullpen in 1999 and 2000, also enjoying stints with the Twins, Red Sox and Rangers. He's had three DWI charges, including one he pled guilty to just last year.
