Manufacturer unveils game-changing project that could soon find its way to coffee drinkers worldwide: 'We continue to innovate'

Yahoo08-05-2025

Coffee just got a cleaner wake-up call thanks to a new paper-based pouch that could help shrink the industry's plastic problem.
Amcor, one of the world's leading packaging companies, has launched the AmFiber
Performance Paper stand-up pouch — a recyclable, paper-based solution designed for dry beverages like instant coffee, Clean the Sky reported.
With 85% fiber content and certifications from CEPI and Aticelca, it's engineered to perform like traditional flexible packaging without the environmental baggage.
According to Amcor, the pouch can help brands cut their carbon emissions by up to 73%, slash non-renewable energy use by 71%, and decrease water consumption by 41% compared to traditional flexible packaging.
That's a significant step, especially considering that most conventional coffee packaging is made from plastic derived from dirty energy sources like oil and natural gas, materials that are tough to recycle and contribute to both carbon pollution and microplastic waste.
"This newest addition to the AmFiber family offers coffee and dry beverage brands a more attractive packaging solution that has a natural, paper-based appeal and is recycle-ready," said Giorgio Dini, Amcor's coffee marketing manager.
"Helping to advance more circular refill packaging, we are proud to announce the AmFiber
Performance Paper stand-up pouch, as we continue to innovate in paper-based solutions."
For consumers, it's a win on multiple fronts. The stand-up design keeps pantry shelves tidy and the contents fresh, while the recyclable materials support efforts to reduce single-use plastics at home.
For the planet, it's a move away from dirty fuel-based packaging and toward a healthier climate future. Less plastic means less microplastics in our ecosystems and less air pollution that fuels extreme weather events and health risks.
Amcor joins a growing list of companies investing in smarter, cleaner packaging options. Companies like Walmart, which is aiming to cut down its single-use plastic across its supply chain, and Nike, with its Move to Zero program, are part of a growing list of brands rethinking their environmental impact at scale.

Amcor's AmFiber Performance Paper confirms recyclability in Brazil

Packaging provider Amcor's AmFiber Performance Paper has been verified as recyclable within Brazil's mixed-paper recycling stream. This development aligns with Brazil's existing paper recycling rate of 66.9%, as reported by Indústria Brasileira de Árvores. The company's innovation could potentially enhance packaging recyclability by incorporating more AmFiber Performance Paper into the market. In pursuit of this goal, Amcor collaborated with independent consultant MAPA and local recyclers to assess the impact of AmFiber Performance Paper on the domestic recycling process. The study provided a detailed analysis of the Brazilian paper recycling market, pinpointing limitations and volumes for various paper types. It also included rigorous laboratory and machine tests at recycling facilities, offering a thorough perspective on the packaging's performance in actual recycling systems. The results demonstrated that AmFiber Performance Paper meets critical recyclability criteria and integrates seamlessly with the country's mixed-paper stream. MAPA Consultoria e Análises socioambientais project director Marcus Fattor said: 'We were pleased to support Amcor in this important project. 'Given the challenges of packaging recycling in Brazil, verifying that this solution works in practice is a significant achievement.' The tests encompassed hands-on assessments of the material's behaviour throughout the sorting, pulping, and processing phases, confirming its compatibility with existing recycling operations. By minimising the environmental footprint of packaging and safeguarding the future, Amcor says it continues its efforts in responsible packaging development. Amcor Flexibles Brazil vice-president and general manager Marcelo Queiroz said: 'Packaging plays an integral role in our lives, primarily aimed at showcasing and protecting products effectively. While this task may seem straightforward, it demands extensive science, engineering, and commitment. 'We now know that our product is recyclable within Brazil's system, so it's now about collaboration. We're offering our customers an alternative packaging that had already been evaluated in terms of recyclability.' Last month, Amcor collaborated with Metsä Group to innovate moulded fibre-based food packaging solutions. "Amcor's AmFiber Performance Paper confirms recyclability in Brazil" was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand. Amcor (NYSE:AMCR) investors are sitting on a loss of 21% if they invested three years ago

Many investors define successful investing as beating the market average over the long term. But in any portfolio, there are likely to be some stocks that fall short of that benchmark. We regret to report that long term Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) shareholders have had that experience, with the share price dropping 32% in three years, versus a market return of about 48%. Furthermore, it's down 10% in about a quarter. That's not much fun for holders. Since shareholders are down over the longer term, lets look at the underlying fundamentals over the that time and see if they've been consistent with returns. We've found 21 US stocks that are forecast to pay a dividend yield of over 6% next year. See the full list for free. In his essay The Superinvestors of Graham-and-Doddsville Warren Buffett described how share prices do not always rationally reflect the value of a business. One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS). During the three years that the share price fell, Amcor's earnings per share (EPS) dropped by 17% each year. This fall in the EPS is worse than the 12% compound annual share price fall. This suggests that the market retains some optimism around long term earnings stability, despite past EPS declines. The company's earnings per share (over time) is depicted in the image below (click to see the exact numbers). It's probably worth noting we've seen significant insider buying in the last quarter, which we consider a positive. That said, we think earnings and revenue growth trends are even more important factors to consider. Before buying or selling a stock, we always recommend a close examination of historic growth trends, available here.. As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of Amcor, it has a TSR of -21% for the last 3 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence! Amcor shareholders are down 2.4% for the year (even including dividends), but the market itself is up 13%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 1.5%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Take risks, for example - Amcor has 3 warning signs we think you should be aware of. There are plenty of other companies that have insiders buying up shares. You probably do not want to miss this free list of undervalued small cap companies that insiders are buying.
