Olectra Launches Revolutionary GFRP Rebar for Enhanced Concrete Reinforcement

Hans India25-04-2025

Olectra Greentech Limited, a frontrunner in electric mobility solutions in India, has unveiled its groundbreaking Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Rebar at the esteemed MEIL Budget Meet. This innovative product represents a significant advancement in concrete reinforcement technology, boasting superior strength, durability, and eco-friendliness.
The GFRP Rebar was inaugurated by Mr. P.V. Krishna Reddy, Managing Director of MEIL, alongside Olectra's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. K.V. Pradeep, and MEIL Group Directors, Mr. C.H. Subbiah and Mr. B. Srinivas Reddy.
Crafted using ECR glass and epoxy resin, Olectra's GFRP Rebar delivers remarkable benefits over conventional steel reinforcement, achieving an ultimate tensile strength of 950-1100 MPa—nearly double that of steel. Additionally, it is approximately four times lighter, facilitating easier handling and transportation. Its non-corrosive, non-magnetic, non-conductive, and water-resistant characteristics render it particularly suitable for demanding environments.
'We are thrilled to introduce this revolutionary product, marking Olectra's formal entry into the construction sector. The GFRP Rebar not only contributes to cost savings and lower maintenance but also extends the lifespan of structures. Its applications span industrial flooring, pavements, and bridge decks, making it an excellent alternative to steel rebar, particularly for marine projects,' stated Mr. K.V. Pradeep.
Olectra's GFRP Rebar is set to redefine concrete reinforcement in various applications including marine structures, pavements, bridge decks, industrial flooring, precast elements, substation civil structures, and drainage systems. With India consuming nearly 50 million tons of TMT steel rebar in 2024 alone, Olectra's advanced GFRP Rebar presents a robust and sustainable solution to meet the demands of modern infrastructure.
Founded in 2000, Olectra Greentech Limited (a publicly listed entity) and part of the MEIL Group, pioneered the introduction of electric buses to India in 2015 and is one of the country's largest manufacturers of silicone rubber/composite insulators for power transmission systems.

Why media careers are booming and how to choose the right institute to get there

From immersive storytelling on OTT platforms to AI-enhanced newsrooms, the media landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. With every scroll and click reshaping how stories are told and consumed, demand for skilled, adaptable professionals is surging. The stakes are higher, and so are the expectations from both audiences and employers. For students aspiring to make a mark in journalism, advertising, digital content, public relations, or media management, this evolution presents both opportunities and challenges. Especially when it comes to the first big decision- choosing the right institute to prepare them for the world ahead. What defines a future-ready media institute? 1. Curriculum that mirrors industry shifts Modern media roles demand more than just textbook knowledge. Institutes must offer courses that reflect industry realities, such as data-led journalism, influencer marketing, content strategy, podcasting, and immersive video production. Flexibility to learn new tools and respond to fast-evolving trends should be built into the curriculum. 2. Strong placement track record One of the most critical metrics for students and parents alike, placement performance reflects how well-connected an institute is to the industry. Look for programmes that have long-standing relationships with top media companies and offer internship pipelines, mentorship, and alumni support. 3. Infrastructure that simulates real-world conditions Gone are the days when classroom learning was enough. Today, high-end production studios, digital editing suites, radio and TV labs, and access to software like Adobe Creative Suite or AI-based content tools are essential for hands-on learning and creative experimentation. 4. Real-world exposure and flagship initiatives Participation in industry-led projects, film festivals, and panel discussions helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. Institutes that facilitate such exposure prepare students to confidently transition from campus to career. Why AIMC stands out among Delhi's media colleges Institutes like Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) , which are consistently ranked among Delhi's top private media colleges, have begun integrating new-age modules into their mainstream coursework, offering students a head start in future-facing roles. According to recent HANSA and MDRA surveys*, AIMC has been ranked the No.1 private media institute in Delhi for five consecutive years, a validation of both its curriculum strength and career outcomes. Its programmes in journalism, PR, advertising, digital content, and TV/radio production are designed with real-world applicability in mind. The faculty comprises industry experts and media practitioners. Students gain access to high-definition (HD) production studios, Mac-based editing setups, drone video tools, and the full Adobe Creative Suite, equipping them with the resources to transform their ideas into compelling content. The institute also stands out for its flagship initiatives, including the We Care Film Festival on disability awareness, Media Chaupal interactive forums, and the Academic-Industry Orientation program. Perhaps most importantly, AIMC shares that it supports students with 100% placement assistance through its strong industry networks and alumni connections. Invest in the right launchpad The media world is full of promise, but also unpredictability. The right institute can provide aspiring professionals with the stability, support, and skills they need to not only survive but also thrive. Whether you're a student or a parent making a career decision, evaluating institutes based on curriculum, infrastructure, industry connections, and long-term relevance is the best place to begin. TGSRTC withdraws order for 40 electric buses issued to Megha entity

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has withdrawn an order for 40 electric buses issued to MEIL subsidiary, EVEY Trans. The 40 electric buses were part of the order for 50 such for inter-city operations the State Transport Corporation had placed with EVEY in April 2023. The TGSRTC has reduced the order to 10 buses which have already been delivered. In respect of the balance 40, the order has been withdrawn, another MEIL entity Olectra Greentech informed stock exchanges on Saturday. As per the tender conditions, EVEY was executing the contract with TGSRTC through a special purpose vehicle company EVEY Trans in which electric bus maker Olectra had 26% stake and EVEY the remaining 74%. Under the contractual terms, the buses were required to be procured from Olectra and who additionally was responsible for their maintenance. The order for supply of 50 electric buses was to be on gross cost contract (GCC) / OPEX model basis for the contract period of 10 years. Olectra did not specify reasons for which the order for the remaining 40 buses was withdrawn by the State Transport Corporation. The TGSRTC had in April 2023 also placed order for 500 electric buses for intra-city operations, along with the 50 buses for intercity operations, it said. Except for reduction in existing order book by 40 buses, there is no material adverse impact since it is having huge order book for electric buses, Olectra said in the filing.

ECR unveils AI-based system to boost train safety

Patna: General manager of East Central Railway (ECR), Chhatrasal Singh, on Friday inaugurated an advanced AI-based system at Ara coaching depot under Danapur division to modernise railway maintenance. Danapur DRM Jayant Kumar Choudhary said the system automates coach cleaning and water refilling, while smart sensors detect alarm chain pulling (ACP) and other anomalies. "AI integration will boost monitoring, safety and passenger comfort," he added. "The AI-based system, a first in Indian Railways, marks a major step toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient services," said Singh. Danapur ADRM Aadhar Raj, credited with developing the system, said a live demo was successfully tested on the Ara-Durg South Bihar Express. "The device alerts staff or control rooms to issues like fire, brake binding, hot axle, water shortage, foul odour, ACP, and coach breakdowns via ultrasonic sensors," he said. Initially, all rakes of eight long-distance trains from Ara will be equipped, followed by wider implementation across ECR. Each device costs Rs 1 lakh, and fitting an entire 24-coach rake costs Rs 24 lakh. The system was developed by a Danapur team over the past year. Singh announced a Rs 1 lakh cash reward for the team.
