Olectra Launches Revolutionary GFRP Rebar for Enhanced Concrete Reinforcement
The GFRP Rebar was inaugurated by Mr. P.V. Krishna Reddy, Managing Director of MEIL, alongside Olectra's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. K.V. Pradeep, and MEIL Group Directors, Mr. C.H. Subbiah and Mr. B. Srinivas Reddy.
Crafted using ECR glass and epoxy resin, Olectra's GFRP Rebar delivers remarkable benefits over conventional steel reinforcement, achieving an ultimate tensile strength of 950-1100 MPa—nearly double that of steel. Additionally, it is approximately four times lighter, facilitating easier handling and transportation. Its non-corrosive, non-magnetic, non-conductive, and water-resistant characteristics render it particularly suitable for demanding environments.

Shah to flag off new Amrit Bharat special train today
Patna: Union home minister Amit Shah will flag off a new Sitamarhi-Delhi Amrit Bharat inaugural special (05599) through videoconferencing from Sitamarhi on Friday. According to the ECR's chief pubic relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, the new Amrit Bharat Express will make a regular run once a week. "It will depart from Delhi every Saturday at 2pm and reach Sitamarhi the next day at 10.45am. On its return journey, the train will leave Sitamarhi every Sunday at 10.15pm and reach Delhi the next day at 10.40pm," he said. The train will make commercial stops at Bairgania, Raxaul, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha, Siswa Bazar, Kaptanganj, Gorakhpur, Basti, Gonda, Lucknow, Kanpur Central, Tundla and Ghaziabad. Gulf leads in migration with Saudi having highest Indian ECR workers
Mangaluru: Indian blue-collar workers constitute a significant portion of the workforce in several Gulf countries, notably Saudi Arabia. Recent data from five years indicates a strong trend of migration to the Gulf region for employment, particularly in the construction sector and other labour-intensive industries. Between Jan 2020 and June 2025, according to data shared by the ministry of external affairs in the Rajya Sabha on July 31, Indian expats working in blue-collar jobs are present in 14 countries, accounting for 16,06,964 individuals. The substantial number of Emigration Check Required (ECR) category workers in these countries underscores the economic ties and labour dynamics between India and the Gulf. Among the 14 countries, Saudi Arabia has the highest number of Indian workers, including those engaged in construction and labour-intensive work. The country currently has 695,269 workers, followed by the UAE (3,41,365 workers), Kuwait (2,01,959 workers), Qatar (1,53,501 workers), and Oman (1,16,840 workers). According to employers, mainly from Gulf countries, the revival of infrastructure and labour demand in Gulf countries started to see a notable surge in 2022 and 2023, with the highest number of workers (3,98,000) sent abroad in 2023 alone. This year, as of June 2025, Saudi Arabia has recruited 71,175 workers; however, the UAE has the highest number, with 96,401 workers employed. Althaf Ullal, MD and CEO of Saad Al Qahtani Contracting (SAQCO) based in Al Khobar, said Saudi Arabia is experiencing a construction boom due to Vision 2030 projects, such as NEOM and The Line. Factors why Indian workers are preferred include their experience, reliability, and skills in construction trades, and understand Gulf culture and adapt easily. KA Sheikh Karnire, operations director at Expertise Contracting Company Limited in Saudi Arabia, also echoed Althaf's views. "Our company alone trains and recruits 4,000-5,000 blue-collar workers from India, including temporary assignments in Saudi Arabia," he said. Kuwait is also experiencing a high demand for labourers due to attractive compensation packages compared to other Gulf countries, according to Akash S Panwar, a Kuwait-based expatriate who has been running a construction company for the past two decades. Welfare measures The Union govt implemented multiple measures to protect and assist blue collar workers in times of distress. They include toll-free helplines, WhatsApp support, and mobile apps via Indian missions; Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendras (PBSKs) in key cities; Pre-Departure Orientation and Training (PDOT) and the Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojna (PBBY) for safer migration. Also, the utilisation of the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) worth Rs 703 crore since inception has benefited over 3.5 lakh Indians with legal, medical, and emergency assistance abroad.

ECR to propose 3rd and 4th tracks on high-density routes
Patna: East Central Railway (ECR) has decided to submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the Railway Board within the next couple of days for the construction of third and fourth railway lines along several high-density corridors within its jurisdiction. The proposed expansion will cover 450km and include routes such as Chhapra Gramin-Sonepur-Hajipur-Shahpur Patori-Bachwara, Barauni-Katihar and Hajipur-Muzaffarpur-Samastipur-Bachwara. According to ECR's chief public relations officer (CPRO), Saraswati Chandra, general manager Chhatrasal Singh and other senior railway officials held a detailed discussion on the project at ECR's headquarters in Hajipur on Thursday. The DPR, estimated to cost around Rs 8,600 crore, is expected to boost connectivity, ease congestion and upgrade rail infrastructure in one of the country's busiest regions. The expansion will be executed in two phases. Phase I will focus on constructing third and fourth lines along the Chhapra Gramin-Sonepur-Shahpur Patori-Bachwara and Barauni-Katihar routes, covering 311km. These include the construction of 21 major and 82 minor bridges, along with 69 level crossings (LHS) to boost safety and reduce delays. The plan also features dedicated rail bridges over the Kosi river at Kursela and the Gandak river at Hajipur, she added. Highlighting the strategic importance of these corridors, the CPRO said the Chhapra Gramin–Sonepur–Hajipur–Shahpur Patori–Bachwara and Barauni–Katihar routes are essential for both passenger and freight services. "These lines are crucial for the transport of commodities such as coal, cement and agricultural produce. The project will not only help decongest the existing network but also increase capacity to manage rising traffic volumes in future," she said. The CPRO said construction work on the first phase would begin after the Railway Board approves the DPR.
