The search for a new manager has been ongoing for over 50 days, with Riza having been sacked with just three matches of their ill-fated Championship relegation battle left. Wales captain Aaron Ramsey took over on an interim basis, but an upcoming move to Mexico has ruled him out of taking charge of the Bluebirds in League One next season. Charlton boss Nathan Jones was another linked to the job before signing a new long-term deal with the Addicks, while ex-Oxford United boss Des Buckingham has also been the favourite with the bookies. However, Barry-Murphy is understood to have held detailed talks with the club and is believed to have admirers within the club's hierarchy out of the remaining candidates. His last management job was Rochdale, which he left in 2021 - going on to work with Manchester City's academy before landing the assistant role at Leicester. Should he get the job, he would become Cardiff's ninth manager in four years. Article continues below A sub-committee, led by Mark Allen and academy manager Gavin Chesterfield with support from global sports agency Wasserman, have been behind the search for the Bluebirds' latest boss - although the lengthy wait for an appointment has led to discontent amongst fans. This week, the supporter's trust accused owner Vincent Tan of treating the club's fanbase with "contempt" over the "intolerable" delay and lack of communication - leading to the club putting out an update on the search. 'The board put together our subcommittee that included former Manchester City Director of Academy and Rangers Director of Football, Mark Allen," said Chesterfield in the club's update. "It was great to be able to draw on Mark's experience in this field. Wasserman Agency were also on hand to add further insights and support. It was felt it was important in this role to feed into the process on what was required from an 'on the ground' perspective. "Adding an internal aspect affords the opportunity to feel what the pulse of the Club requires and naturally I'm proud in the trust shown by the board in my inclusion. We worked through a long list of talented options according to a clear criterion to ensure consistency of process. 'Truthfully though, no two recruitment processes are the same. It has taken longer than initially expected, but this is a crucial decision at a key time for our football club. Having started with a blank canvas, we are proud of the final options presented to the board for consideration. This is an appointment that everyone wants to get right for the future of Cardiff City. "Looking at my own position and the people I represent day-to-day too, in today's football landscape it's vital that Academy players have a pathway through to the First Team and our Club is no different. "I'm fortunate to have had very good relationships with all the managers across my time here and I'm anticipating that this work continues. We very much believe in the players coming through, but we can't forget the realities of First Team football. They have to be ready to perform at the levels expected as winning on a Saturday is vital.' Raymond van Barneveld granted exemption to play in darts tournament as five-time world champion accepts wildcard invite
DARTS legend Raymond van Barneveld has been granted permission to join the World Seniors Tour. The 58-year-old has been named as the final wildcard for the 2025 Champion of Champions. 2 Barney will take on 11 other legends of the sport at the tournament in Portsmouth on June 29. The Dutch icon currently holds a PDC Tour Card. He was given special permission by the PDC to appear in the event later this month. Van Barneveld began his darts pro career way back in 1987. He started in the BDO, winning four world titles before joining the PDC in 2006. Barney added the PDC crown a year later, cementing his place as a legend of the sport. The Dutchman still plays on the Tour, but his last major televised final came in the 2018 Masters. He will go up against stars including Simon Whitlock, Steve Beaton and Mervyn King in Portsmouth. Van Barneveld said: "I am looking forward to playing in this event. "The sport has always loved big characters, and World Seniors Darts have brought them back, with most still playing to a high standard. "They have a loyal crowd, and the popularity for the Seniors seems to grow and grow. "I'm looking forward to catching up with the old faces of the sport, especially from my BDO era. "I'm not coming over to Portsmouth thinking this will be easy. "I will be giving my full respect to all of the players involved, and I will be preparing hard for this tournament". "To have the likes of Simon Whitlock, Steve Beaton and Mervyn King, who have not long come off the Professional Tour, and then Seniors World Champions like John [Henderson], Robert [Thornton], and Ross [Montgomery] also playing, it's going to be a real battle out there to take the title".

Portsmouth keeper Killip signs new deal
Portsmouth goalkeeper Ben Killip has signed a new two-year deal to stay at Fratton 29-year-old arrived from Barnsley on a short-term contract in January and started in Pompey's final two league games of the season. Killip played for Chelsea and Norwich City's youth sides before a stay at Hartlepool United and then a move to the Tykes where he made 36 appearances. He has also represented the England C side."We're delighted that Ben will be remaining at the club and our goalkeeping options look particularly strong," Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said."He complements the other guys we have here really well and that competition should bring out the best in all of them."We saw what Ben was capable of in those two games at the end of last season and I'm looking forward to working with him once more when the players report back later this month."
