Huawei, a global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices, announced its continued support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region. The company reinforced this commitment during an exclusive Commercial Business Roundtable in Uzbekistan.
The event was part of the Huawei Tech Carnival 2025 in Tashkent. It gathered C-level executives, industry leaders, and Huawei's global management to discuss digital transformation strategies.
Huawei revealed its focus on future-proof and simplified ICT infrastructure tailored for SMEs.
Peter Zhang, Director of the Commercial Business Department, Enterprise Sales at Huawei, reported that the company aims to build deep partnerships and industry-specific strategies. He emphasized Huawei's role in shaping the commercial market's digital future.
The roundtable featured detailed presentations on Huawei MECA Commercial Business's 2024 milestones and its 2025 roadmap. Top executives from both the MECA Region and Huawei Global shared strategic insights.
Members of the Huawei Elite Club shared real-world success stories. These cases showed how implementing ICT infrastructure boosted operational efficiency and growth.
Experts at the event also discussed key digital transformation challenges for SMEs. Open sessions enabled commercial partners to collaborate and share knowledge.
Huawei also showcased its SME-focused solutions at the Commercial booth during the Tech Carnival. The company highlighted: Scalable and future-ready ICT infrastructure
Easy deployment and reduced IT complexity for SMEs
The solutions are designed to support industries such as education, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and manufacturing. Huawei stated that its offerings meet specific industry needs and allow for sustainable digital growth.
Osama M Henein, Managing Director at OHI, reported that the event offered valuable insights for navigating digital change. He noted Huawei's strategic direction and sector-focused approach as key to solving real-world challenges.
The event also highlighted success stories from regional partners. These stories demonstrated how Huawei's ICT infrastructure accelerated growth and improved customer experience.
Huawei's commercial business division continues to expand across the Middle East and Central Asia. The company reported active operations in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Gulf North, Pakistan, Iraq, Oman, Levant, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Armenia, and Georgia.
The Commercial Business Roundtable marked another milestone in Huawei's mission to make advanced ICT infrastructure accessible to businesses of all sizes.
Huawei concluded that effective digital transformation requires more than technology. It demands strong partnerships, deep expertise, and long-term support.

Tesla Motors' stock price is taking a beating again, this time because of the very high-profile squabble between chief executive Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump. Its 15 per cent decline on Thursday reflects the volatility that shadows the company's shares, which remain vulnerable to everything from market trends to short tweets, especially from Mr Musk. Now, with his increasingly bitter fight with Mr Trump, Mr Musk might find himself on the short end of the stick: once a trusted adviser, he has now fallen out of favour with his blitz of criticism over Mr Trump's "big, beautiful" budget bill. Mr Musk derided it as a "disgusting abomination". His gripes won't surely sit well with a "very disappointed" Mr Trump, who is notorious for getting back at his critics. Mr Musk curried favours during his time in the US administration, securing contracts and deals for his companies. Those favours are now likely up in the air. Mr Trump had already suggested that one way to save "billions and billions" is to "terminate" Mr Musk's government subsidies and contracts. It's a spectacular U-turn for the once allies; Mr Trump said he even bought a Tesla to show his support for Mr Musk. Losing the White House's support would be "terrible for Tesla, which is being eaten alive in Europe and Asia by Chinese competition, and Elon Musk's irritating involvement in politics", said Ipek Ozkardeskaya, a senior analyst at Swissquote Bank. She pointed out that Mr Musk would need the President's support, especially for Tesla's self-driving cars and Robotaxis, which "need friendly legislation to thrive". "Legislation is Trump. The hype around Tesla is not looking good," she added. Tesla's shares were up nearly 5 per cent in premarket trading on Friday amid reports of a scheduled call between Mr Trump and Mr Musk to end the spat. While Tesla's stock still remains slightly above its level when Mr Trump won his second presidency in November – Mr Musk splashed $250 million to help ensure that – it's now uncertain how the Musk-Trump clash will affect its share price moving forward. Here are some of the biggest movements in Tesla's stock history. July 24, 2024: Competition heat Tesla's stock dove 12 per cent to $215.99 after its second-quarter financials disappointed, with revenue sliding 7 per cent. The EV maker began feeling the heat from intense competition, most notably from China, as BYD famously overtook it as the world's biggest EV maker in the fourth quarter of 2023 and, subsequently, for the entirety of 2024. October 24, 2024: 22% blitz After solid third quarter financials that saw Mr Musk boldly projecting up to 30 per cent more sales in 2025, Tesla's stock rocketed nearly 22 per cent, putting investors at ease. This was the biggest single-day gain in more than a decade, which also added $150 billion to the company's market value. November 11, 2024: Tesla gets 'Trumped' Tesla gained nearly 9 per cent to $350 as investors expected the alliance between Mr Musk and the then president-elect Mr Trump to further boost its stock. The world's wealthiest person threw in about $250 million into Mr Trump's campaign to help the latter recapture the White House earlier that month. January 2, 2025: New Year's peeve After a series of highs, Tesla came back down, starting the new year with a more than 6 per cent drop to $379.28 after deliveries posted their first decline in a decade. This was also the first time the stock went below the $400 level in nearly a month. February 11, 2025: BYD strikes again After the previous coups, BYD once again hit Tesla, this time as it partnered with fellow Chinese company DeepSeek – famous for putting a dent into the auras of OpenAI and Nvidia – to utilise artificial intelligence in autonomous vehicles. That caused Tesla's stock to shed 6.3 per cent to $328.50. March 10 to April 9, 2025: Tariff see-saw The beginning of the Trump tariff effect: on March 10, Tesla's stock slid more than 15 per cent to $222.15, amid concerns and uncertainty around Mr Trump's planned tariffs. It didn't last long, as the company's share price worked its way back up, peaking – for this period – at $288.14 on March 25, as Mr Trump signalled he might scale back some of the levies. Mr Trump unveiled his Liberation Day tariffs on April 2. By April 8, investors were now raising concerns on how the company would cope with them: that combination pulled down Tesla's shares nearly 5 per cent to $221.86, its lowest since the March 10 slide. This time, it seemed like a blip: the following day, April 9, Tesla shares soared more than 22 per cent after Benchmark Company analyst Mickey Legg dismissed the sell-off as 'overblown'. April 21, 2025: Dogged by Doge Tesla shares gave up almost 6 per cent analyst fears that there was an 'continuing brand erosion' stemming from Mr Musk's role in the Trump administration. Mr Musk and Tesla had already been feeling the backlash: consumers and the general public, particularly those incensed by his federal job and budget cutting, have protested outside Tesla stores and vandalised its EVs, in addition to Tesla owners "rebranding" their cars out of protest. May 14, 2025: Tariff reprieve Tesla gained more than 9 per cent to $347.68 from the close on May 12 – the day the US and China agreed to temporarily halt their tit-for-tat tariffs. The company's stock would then remain largely steady, until Mr Musk departed from his role in the US government – leading to the public squabble with Mr Trump.

China is flexing its economic muscle in more senses than one. Its decision to restrict exports of the rare minerals and magnets has sent shivers down the spines of global automakers in Germany and in the United States. Rare earth minerals are needed in key sectors like car manufactures, semi-conductor industry, aerospace industry. The Chinese possess half of the global rare earth mineral reserves. The Chinese decision was mainly to counter US President Donald Trump's refusal to export crucial computer chips needed for AI, and the US' refusal to allow imports from Chinese chipmaker Huawei. More importantly, what has angered the Chinese is the refusal of student visas to Chinese students, and the cancellation of the visas of those who are students in American universities. Europe is caught in a crossfire in the trade war between the giants, the US and China. Europeans, as well as Americans, have suddenly realised that it is not such a good thing to depend on China for either rare earth minerals or even manufactured goods including cars. The West is desperately looking to reduce its dependence on China and it is seeking to diversify its supply chain. European Union (EU) Commissioner for Industrial Strategy Stephane Sejourne said, 'We must reduce our dependencies on all countries, particularly on a number of countries like China, on which we are more than 100 per cent dependent.' Meanwhile EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said that he was in touch with his Chinese counterpart and they had agreed to clarify the rare earth minerals situation. Major automakers like Mercedes and BMW are claiming that they have enough inventories and their production schedules will not be affected. But it is clear that shortages are looming on the horizon. The US-China trade talks are quite crucial, even as American President Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, 'I like President Xi of China, always have, and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH.' Trump is blaming China for breaking the deal made in Geneva to roll back the tariffs that each side had imposed on the other, Trump reduced the tariffs from 145 per cent to 30 per cent, and China reduced it from 135 per cent. Mercedes-Benz production chief Jeorg Burzer said he was talking to top suppliers of the company about building 'buffer' stocks anticipating trouble in the future. He said that Mercedes is well stocked for now and production schedules are not affected. But automakers in Europe and America have aired their worries about the curbs on Chinese exports of the rare earth minerals. Many of the captains of industry are lobbying with their governments to solve the deadlock. Wolfgang Weber, CEO of Germany's electrical and digital industry association, ZVEI, said in an emailed statement, 'Companies currently feel abandoned by politicians and are partly looking for solutions to their difficult situation on their own in China.' Trump's declaration of the tariff war against America's trade partners had mostly caused quiet murmurs, and many countries from the EU and other countries like Japan are trying to work out a trade deal without crossing swords with the US. But China was not willing to take Trump's tariffs passively. It is aware that it has power enough to counter American tariffs with tariffs of its own. The Chinese have always been defiant of the Western world, even when they did not have the economic power they now have. There is of course the harsh fact. China needs the Western countries to maintain its economic growth. It is its exports to Western countries that have made it rich and powerful. Europe and US need the cheap labour of China, and China needs the Western markets. They have to strike a deal with each other.

As artificial intelligence becomes more embedded in everyday business in the UAE, what are the dangers of giving it too much control? While AI is dramatically speeding up workflows and delivering big efficiencies, experts are warning that relying on it too heavily, too soon, could backfire. Recent insights show that AI works best as a support tool, not a decision-maker. When businesses let machines steer strategy, hiring, or customer service without human oversight, the risks are real. Tech investor and entrepreneur, Rashit Makhat, is among those urging caution on the grounds that, while AI can crunch data and offer options in seconds, it doesn't yet understand people, context, or consequences. 'In today's business environment, the human touch matters more than ever,' says Makhat, Director and co-founder of UAE tech venture company, Scalo Technologies. 'AI will transform business, make companies faster, smarter, and more efficient, and no-one wants to be left behind. 'But while AI can draft entire business plans in moments, unlike humans, it doesn't think. It doesn't feel. It doesn't understand people. If businesses forget that, they could be heading for trouble'. The idea of machines running entire industries is not new. But what are the consequences, when we take AI out of the lab and into the boardroom? Harvard Business Review watched a series of executive team meetings at an $85 million revenue Austrian company. They found that what makes AI a valuable team member is that it helps execs see more options. And it provides information quickly to speed up decisions. 'AI worked best when guided by humans, supporting but not replacing, decision-making,' said Makhat. 'The best ideas came when the AI prompted executives to think differently. When they did, they made better choices. AI wasn't the leader - it was the assistant.' The experiment can't disguise AI's broader impact on corporate decision-making. Some experts predict it could soon run entire departments, or even whole companies. But problems can occur when people treat AI like it's already in charge. In February, three lawyers in a lawsuit against Walmart were fined $5,000 by a US judge in Wyoming for citing fake cases generated by AI. The judge said they had a duty to check their sources were real. Reuters also reported that over the past two years, more US judges have raised concerns or disciplined lawyers for using AI-generated cases and quotes in court. 'The most successful companies aren't those that rush to adopt every new technology,' says Makhat. 'They're the ones that mix innovation with human intelligence. Startups, in particular, must be extra careful. AI should sharpen human judgment, not take its place.'
