Nikolas Motta vs. Nazim Sadykhov prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ABC 8

USA Today3 hours ago

Nikolas Motta and Nazim Sadykhov meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ABC 8 at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.
Last event: 5-1
UFC main cards, 2025: 57-44-1
Nikolas Motta vs. Nazim Sadykhov UFC Baku preview
Motta (15-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) enters his first fight of the year on the heels of back-to-back wins in 2024. Last January, he finished Tom Nolan in the first round, followed by a unanimous decision over Hayisaer Maheshate. The hard-hitting lightweight has finished 10 of his 15 victories by KO or TKO. ... Sadykhov (10-1-1 MMA, 3-0-1 UFC) has only suffered one defeat in his career, which came in 2018. Since then, he's gone unbeaten, winning 10 and drawing once – the only time he's reached the scorecards in the UFC. In his last outing in February, Sadykhov won a doctor's stoppage TKO over Ismael Bonfim.
Nikolas Motta vs. Nazim Sadykhov UFC Baku expert pick, prediction
Serving as a solid action fight at lightweight is a battle between Nazim Sadykhov and Nikolas Motta.
Sadykhov, a savvy southpaw who has long been hailed as a prospect by the legendary Serra-Longo camp, has followed his stablemate Merab Dvalishvili to Las Vegas to train with coach John Wood and the Syndicate MMA crew.
This change hasn't appeared to be drastic for Sadykhov, but the Azerbaijani native is one of many fighters on this card with a more deceptive resume than meets the eye.
Aside from the fact that Sadykhov lost two rounds to Evan Elder and Viacheslav Borschev without having to suffer a single loss, the 31-year-old tends to find himself in deceptively close fights where either cuts or scorecards have arguably bailed him out.
Motta, on the other hand, had a handful of bad performances early on in his UFC career that came amid a slew of camp changes and short-notice bookings that subsequently caused everyone from the bookmakers to the gamblers to continually disrespect his chances despite his recent results.
Motta is still a kill-or-be-killed fighter for the most part, but the Brazilian has made some measurable improvements to his overall game since splitting his time between his home bases of Xtreme Couture MMA and Bangtao Muay Thai.
Now, Motta appears to be in the best shape of his life, showing more tools at range and improved pacing and grappling. Motta also shows the style of leg kicks and shoveling body shots that previous Sadykhov opponents have found success with.
Don't get me wrong: Sadykhov is the deserved favorite and no one should be shocked if he replicates the murder scenes that Manual Torres and Jim Miller made before him.
That said, we can't ignore the fact that power is a potent two-way street, and Motta has way too much of it for Sadykhov to be this heavily favored with his fast-and-loose style. For that reason, I suspect that the southpaw killer that is Motta's left hook will be live for as long as this fight lasts.
A decision win isn't totally out of the question, but I'll take an unpopular flier on Motta to shock the world by catching Sadykhov cold in round 1.
Nikolas Motta vs. Nazim Sadykhov UFC Baku odds
The oddsmakers and the public heavily favor the hometown fighter, listing Sadykhov -430 and Motta +320 via FanDuel.
Nikolas Motta vs. Nazim Sadykhov UFC Baku start time, how to watch
Motta and Sadykhov are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 3:40 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ABC, ESPN and ESPN+.

'I couldn't be more prepared' – Elliott set for Ko

Oban Elliott has not fought since his win over Bassil Hafez in November 2024 [Getty Images] Welsh welterweight Oban Elliott insists he is in peak condition as he prepares to face South Korea's Seokhyeon Ko at UFC Fight Night in Baku, Azerbaijan on Saturday. Elliott, nicknamed "The Welsh Gangster" was originally set to fight on 31 May at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas against Ramiz Brahimaj. Advertisement That bout was cancelled due to visa issues, but the UFC moved swiftly to keep the 27-year-old active, rescheduling him for this weekend's card. Elliott, who has been training across Europe with some of the sport's elite, believes the late switch in opponent will not affect his performance. "I couldn't be more prepared," Elliott said. "The only difference this time is Ko is a southpaw, but with my main sparring partner being Roberto Soldic, it's the best preparation I could've asked for. "I feel very good. I'm ready. There's nothing I haven't seen." Advertisement Also known as "The Korean Tyson," Ko Seok-hyeon comes into the contest with an impressive 11-2 record, He is coming through the same path as Elliott in Dana White's contender series, but the Welshman remains respectful of the challenge ahead. "He's a great fighter. I respect anyone chasing success in this sport," Elliott added. "This is the biggest fight of my life." Elliott's preparation has seen him travel extensively, training with top-tier fighters across Germany, France, Croatia and the Netherlands. "I've trained with every style you can think of – the best guys in the world," he said. "It's been great experience for me." Advertisement Mental toughness, Elliott believes, will be the defining factor on the night. "Everyone is composed in the gym. A training camp is 90% physical and 10% mental," he explained. "But when the fight comes around, it flips. Then it's 90% mental, because everybody is physically ready. "I couldn't be more prepared for it. For me, it just feels like another day in the office." Looking beyond Baku, Elliott has his sights set on the UFC rankings and is not shy about his ambitions. "These rankings – someone, somewhere, made that list," he said. "But on my list, I'm number one. Whoever they send to me is coming for my spot, so send whoever you want… just don't expect to get them back." Advertisement The Merthyr Tydfil native hopes to one day compete for a UFC title in front of a home crowd at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, while also highlighting the rapid growth of mixed martial arts across the UK. "Paddy [Pimblett] could get his title fight at Anfield, and I could get mine in the Principality Stadium one day," said Elliott. "We've got the power to take over the UFC, that's for sure." His remarks come at a time when British fighters are enjoying a surge of success in the UFC, with talent from across the UK continuing to make a strong impact on the sport's biggest stage.

UFC on ABC 8: Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. odds, picks and predictions

In a 5-round light heavyweight bout in the main event, Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr. meet Saturday at UFC on ABC 8 at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. The main event is expected to start approximately at 5:45 p.m. ET, following the prelims scheduled to kick off at noon ET (ESPN/ESPN+) with the main card set for 3 p.m. ET (ABC / ESPN+). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's UFC odds around the UFC on ABC 8: Hill vs. Rountree Jr. odds, and make our expert UFC picks and predictions. Records: Hill (12-3-0) | Rountree Jr. (14-6-0) Hill looks to halt a 2-bout skid. He picked up a light heavyweight championship Jan. 21, 2023 at UFC 283 against veteran Glover Teixeira, but he gave it back when Alex Pereira knocked him out in Round 1 at UFC 300. He followed the loss up with a Round 3 KO/TKO loss against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311. In 7 of Hill's past 8 fights, we had a single unanimous-decision win over Teixeira at UFC 283, while the other 7 ended by way of KO/TKO, with 4 wins and 3 losses via the method. Rountree also has a title loss to Pereira, falling last time out via Round 4 KO/TKO at UFC 307. That halted a 5-bout win streak that included 4 knockouts and a split-decision victory against Dustin Jacoby. Hill has a 2.5-inch reach advantage over his fellow southpaw Rountree. Hill also has a 7.05-to-3.73 significant strikes landed per minute, while landing 55.44% of those strikes, while Rountree has managed a 41.53% mark. Watch this card with ESPN+ by signing up here. UFC on ABC 8: Hill vs. Rountree Jr. odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET. UFC on ABC 8: Hill vs. Rountree Jr. picks and predictions Fight result (2-way line or moneyline) HILL (-110) is a great value in what the sportsbooks consider a bit of a coin-flip bout. However, Hill is the better play, as he is a punching machine, racking up 7.05 significant strikes per minute, he is accurate with those punches, and he has the 2.5-inch reach advantage he can use to push and pull Rountree Jr. out at his choosing. It's hard to understand why this is considered essentially a pick 'em, but take advantage and play Hill. If you want to play the method of victory. HILL BY KO/TKO OR DQ (+200) for the chance to double up on the 7-way line is a strong play, too. Rountree's defense isn't great, and has been knocked out 3 times in his past 10 fights, including a loss to Pereira last time out at UFC 307, he didn't lose that fight until Round 4. Hill's defense isn't great, either, losing 3 times via KO/TKO since June 12, 2021, while winning 4 times by way of knockout since Dec. 2020. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! Over/Under OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-105) is worth a look, as both Hill and Rountree are veterans who know how to hang around. Both fighters have some issues with defense, so proceed with caution with the Over play. However, both of these guys should feel each other out in a 5-round fight. Expect a slow start before we get a flurry in the middle to late rounds. Visit MMA Junkie for more fight news and analysis. For more sports betting picks and tips, check out and BetFTW.
