Teens recruited by Kiev busted for plot to murder Russian officer

Russia Today4 days ago
Two teenagers have been detained in Novosibirsk, central Russia for attempting to poison a Russian military officer on orders from Ukrainian special services, the Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency said the minors were recruited online through a site offering quick money and were later coordinated remotely from Ukraine. They received instructions via Telegram, the FSB said, as confirmed by data found on their seized devices.
The teens were later given three containers of toxic chemicals meant to cause acute heart failure and possibly death, which they applied to the door handle and side mirror of the officer's car. The FSB did not disclose the names of the substances.
The joint operation by the FSB and Russia's Investigative Committee prevented the assassination attempt, and the officer was unharmed. A criminal case has been opened for attempted murder committed by a group.
Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Kiev has repeatedly targeted Russian military personnel and public figures, often using sabotage. The FSB regularly reports that it has thwarted these types of plots and has warned citizens to stay alert, noting that Ukrainian intelligence recruits through websites, social media, and messaging platforms.
Earlier, the FSB reported the arrest of agents tied to Ukraine's Security Service and Main Intelligence Directorate, which allegedly planned to kill workers at a defense plant in Yaroslavl using toxic chemicals placed in vehicle air ducts. Other reported plots included poisoning food and drinks at an air defense pilot celebration in Armavir and contaminating humanitarian food supplies intended for Russian troops. The suspects in all three plots were charged with preparing acts of terrorism and committing treason.

Ukrainian drone strike leaves one dead and several injured

One person was killed and several others were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Saratov Region on Sunday, local officials have reported. One of the unmanned aerial vehicles crashed into the courtyard of an apartment building overnight, forcing an evacuation of residents, Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said. Local residents reportedly said that windows on several floors were shattered, the building's facade was damaged, and several parked cars caught fire. A nearby school has been turned into a temporary shelter for those displaced, according to officials. The governor added that the attack caused serious damage to an industrial enterprise in the area but did not specify which facility was hit. Earlier, Voronezh Region officials warned of 'the threat of a direct UAV strike.' Governor Aleksandr Gusev said alert systems were activated due to incoming drones. Russia's Defense Ministry has reported downing 121 Ukrainian drones overnight: in Krasnodar Region (29), Crimea (15), Bryansk Region (13), and Belgorod Region (12), as well as dozens more elsewhere. In recent months, Ukrainian forces have intensified their long-range drone operations, targeting not only border regions but also residential areas and key infrastructure deep inside Russia. Moscow has responded with what it is calling high-precision strikes on Ukrainian military-related facilities, maintaining that its operations are never directed at civilians. National air defense units in Russia regularly report intercepting dozens or even hundreds of drones in a single day, but falling debris continues to injure civilians, damage property, and disrupt essential services. Kiev is under growing domestic and international pressure to seek a negotiated settlement with Moscow. On Friday, Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky rejected a US call to consider territorial concessions in exchange for a truce.

Russian court fines Jesus Christ

A man named Jesus Christ has been fined in the Russian city of Kazan for violating immigration laws by illegally registering foreign nationals in a tiny apartment. The penalty comes after new migration laws signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last month increased fees and penalties to tighten control over illegal migration. The 45-year-old, listed in court records as Jesus Petrovich Christ, was found guilty of falsely registering 45 foreign nationals at his 32-square-meter one-room apartment. In Russia, immigrants are required to obtain official registration to live and work legally in the country, compelling some to seek out illegal ways to obtain documentation. Investigators said he charged each individual 2,000 rubles (around $25) for the registration. The court fined him 13,000 rubles ($163). Christ's true birth name remains unknown, with neither the court nor the prosecutor's office aware of it. Those who took part in the criminal proceedings noted that he was obsessed with numerology, which led him to change his name and surname several years ago, leaving only his real patronymic, Petrovich. The initial hearing was set for spring 2025 but was postponed multiple times due to Christ's failure to appear. In April, the court decided to forcibly bring him to trial. In May, the Moscow District Court had already fined him 60,000 rubles ($755) for similar violations. Russia has seen a significant influx of foreign workers, with more than 6 million foreign nationals entering the country in 2024. Half came seeking employment, with many arriving from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Approximately 700,000 foreign nationals are residing unlawfully in the country.
