King Charles' old country home hits market for £4.5m - and he can still visit
A breathtaking country estate previously belonging to King Charles has hit the market for £4.5 million – and he retains visiting rights, as long as he provides 24 hours' notice.
Tucked away in the heart of Dartmoor National Park lies Brimptsmead Estate, an Edwardian country home originally built as a private hunting lodge.
Sold by the King in 1993, His Majesty still holds fishing rights on the property, requiring just 24 hours' advance warning – meaning the new proprietor might find themselves sharing these gorgeous surroundings with royalty.
Encircled by land still mostly owned by the Duchy, estate agents have hailed the property as a "truly rare opportunity to own freehold land in one of the most protected and treasured landscapes in the UK".
Spanning nine acres, the main residence has been "exquisitely restored" and features six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and numerous living spaces across 5,984sq ft, reports Devon Live.
The estate also includes two cottages, a granite-built party barn and extensive garaging, according to Luxury Property News. The unnamed seller has waxed lyrical about the historic abode, calling it a "beauty and deep tranquillity" haven.
They were drawn to an interview in London after showing interest in buying the property back in the 90s. The restoration was a labour of love, with "every decision made with authenticity in mind".
Upgrades include bespoke leaded windows, bronze door handles, rejuvenated original oak and satinwood panelling, newly installed cast iron radiators, and subtly integrated underfloor heating.
The current owners have cherished nine functional fireplaces and describe the house as their family's "sanctuary", sharing: "From evening gatherings in the panelled drawing room, to quiet mornings in the turret, to watching the sun set from the Shed's balcony, Brimptsmead has been a place to live, to love, and to remember."
Tucked away from the main residence are two cottages – Bentley and Herb – providing self-contained living spaces for visitors, extended kin or domestic help.
Brimptsmead boasts a secluded, south-facing position within Dartmoor National Park, elevated and undisturbed by public footpaths. The grounds are a tapestry of lawns, age-old woods, a grassy meadow, and a sloping field leading to open Duchy farmland.
This exquisite property is up for grabs through By Design, with an asking price of £4.5 million.

Surveyor DM Hall expands presence in Glasgow and Edinburgh
In Edinburgh, DM Hall has revamped the ground floor of its premises at 17 Corstorphine Road, while in Glasgow it was moved from 12 to 28 Bothwell Street in the heart of the city's international financial services district. According to the firm, the moves will give its 250 staff 'increased visibility and heightened profile' in the cities and represent a 'vote of confidence' in the office market as it continues its post-Covid recovery. DM Hall also said the investments will enable it to strengthen its head office and support functions. New roles are now in place in information technology, human resources, finance, business development, marketing, audit and compliance to support the firm's growth ambitions. Alan Gordon, senior partner of DM Hall, said: 'Our Edinburgh HQ has undergone a complete facelift and the relocation in Bothwell Street has created a working environment which is more conducive to the new world of hybrid working. 'As well as a more imposing frontage with new signage, the Glasgow office has been given a contemporary fit-out and improved IT, as well as a welcoming social space for staff and more appropriate facilities for private and confidential meetings with clients. 'Our people are increasingly coming back to the office, and we want to encourage staff to collaborate and exchange ideas and information with colleagues. For this, we were keen to create the best conditions for them to do so.' DM Hall's moves to enhance its presence in Glasgow and [[Edinburgh]] follows the investment of several hundred thousand pounds in its 23 offices over recent years. The firm recently moved to new premises in Perth city centre, while relocations or refurbishments have also taken place at its offices in Inverness, Hamilton, Aberdeen, Oban, Falkirk, Stirling, Prestwick, and Galashiels. There are also plans to develop the firm's offices in Carlisle and Kendal in Cumbria, which it acquired in 2023. Read more: Last year the firm opened an office in Truro, in Cornwall, where it said it has 'identified a large, untapped market and already has an increasing flow of business'. It is also exploring further opportunities in the north of England. Mr Gordon added: 'In previous years, the firm tended to be housed in traditional Victorian or Edwardian period offices, but the direction of travel now is towards more modern and spacious open plan offices, in a combination of both city centre locations and edge-of-town business parks. 'We have great pool of talent, for whom we want to create the work settings that allow them to fulfil their potential. We also have an enviable portfolio of clients for whom we are creating an environment which reinforces the firm's long-held philosophy that they come first in all our considerations. 'All our recent activity has been driven by growth, which we expect will be further catalysed by the steps we are taking to improve our business estate.'

Croeso Pubs Adds The Cricketers to its Pub Portfolio
(LtR) Croeso Pubs' Executive Chef Jamie Newman, Area Manager Nick Newman and Area Director Michael Haygarth Cardiff-based pub chain Croeso Pubs Ltd is taking over the lease of The Cricketers in Pontcanna. The acquisition of The Cricketers means that Croeso Pubs now runs nine venues in and around Cardiff, Penarth and Mermaid Quay. It runs two community pubs, The Bear's Head in Penarth and The Discovery in Lakeside. Croeso also runs city centre venues The Philharmonic, Brewhouse, Blue Bell, Retro, and gastro pub Daffodil, as well as The Dock in Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay. The Cricketers was run by the previous owners since 2010, but now the lease has been sold to Croeso Pubs, who will reopen it in a few weeks after carrying out £250,000 worth of improvements. The pub will show selected live sport from Sky and TNT Sports, and will offer a new range of draught beers and traditional Welsh cask ales. The new menu will feature daily specials. Croeso Pubs area director, Michael Haygarth, said: 'We are thrilled to be adding The Cricketers to our ever-increasing list of venues. It is a pub that is synonymous with the west of Cardiff and attracts tourists, walkers and locals alike and so we want to offer something for everyone. 'It is a great location in a stunning Edwardian townhouse just a stone's throw away from Llandaff Fields and Sophia Gardens and we can't wait to welcome clients, old and new, to try out our special Croeso atmosphere when they visit.' Jamie Newman, Executive Chef at Croeso Pubs, has been working with the team on the menu for the new-look Cricketers. He said: 'This pub is well known for its hearty meals and its warm welcome and we plan to build on that with our new menu. At Croeso Pubs, we celebrate all things Welsh with our produce and dishes, and so have been working hard with our suppliers such as the Rib & Oyster from Kilgetty and Sullivan's green grocers in Cardiff, to create dishes that reflect the venue and appeal to our customers at a reasonable price.' Croeso Pubs will be recruiting for new staff at the venue, but are also retaining 12 staff. In 2017 the chain took over the lease for The Philharmonic following a £1 million refurbishment. It also took over former Brains' pub 33 Windsor Place in December 2022 and reopened it as the Daffodil, and in 2021, it refurbished the former Goat Major pub on High Street, opposite Cardiff Castle, and reinstated it to its original name Blue Bell, further extending it in 2024.
