13 men arrested in latest island-wide crackdown on secret societies

SINGAPORE: Thirteen men, aged between 23 and 42, have been arrested in an island-wide crackdown on secret societies, the police have confirmed.
The arrests were made over two days, on May 23 and 24, as part of a coordinated enforcement effort targeting unlawful societies operating in public nightlife and entertainment spaces. The operation was led by the Secret Societies Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department and supported by officers from the Jurong Police Division.
According to the police, more than 40 venues—including public entertainment and nightlife establishments, as well as food and beverage outlets—were inspected during the operation. Close to 90 individuals were checked in the course of the sweep.
The police said the men arrested are suspected of being members of unlawful societies. Investigations are ongoing.

Under Singapore law, anyone found guilty of being a member of an unlawful society faces imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspected gang-related activities to the police.

A 57-year-old man sustained minor injuries but declined medical assistance. Both men were arrested for affray. Police investigations are ongoing.

Barge stranded near Tanjong Beach, Sentosa

In a statement issued shortly after the incident, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed that there were no injuries, environmental pollution, or damage reported as a result of the grounding. The barge, identified as Marco Polo 802, has since been towed away from the coast with the help of deployed tugboats. The cargo containers it was carrying remain intact. MPA assured the public that the grounding posed no risk to navigational safety in the area. Tanjong Beach also remained open to visitors throughout the day, with no disruption to recreational activities. Both the MPA and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) have said they are working closely with other relevant agencies to ensure the incident has minimal impact on the public. In a social media update, SDC added that collaborative efforts are underway to carry out restoration work at the affected site. S'poreans defend ministers' business class selfies after LinkedIn post sparks fuss
SINGAPORE: A woman caused a bit of a stir online after calling out in a LinkedIn post government officials who post selfies when they fly business class for official trips. In her post, the woman, whose bio says she is a joint managing partner at a law firm, writes an open letter to political officeholders. 'I know it's important to signal that you're hard at work and that promises made during the election period were not empty ones. I hereby clap for you. But sharing photos of you dashing about on work trips IN A BUSINESS CLASS SEAT is distinctly counterproductive. It's a humblebrag.' She added that the only acceptable situation for posting a selfie on the plane would be when one performs a heroic act, but took that back, saying it 'would not be cool either.' When a commenter on her post said that office holders could travel first class, and therefore the post had not been a humble brag, the post author doubled down, saying it was 'tone deaf from a comms angle.' Another commenter, who had seen a recent post of this nature from a top government official, wrote, 'It's literally just him with the headrest, talking about being glad to go home,' and added that the woman's post is 'so unnecessary.' The post author clarified that she was not referring to anyone in particular. 'I don't know who 'him' in your post refers to. I'm not talking about any specific POH or any specific post. I wouldn't be so cowardly as to do that without stating details.
