J-K: Authorities celebrate International Biodiversity Day with students in Srinagar
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 23 (ANI): To raise awareness about environmental conservation, authorities celebrated International Biodiversity Day at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on Friday with a gathering of students, forest officials, and nature enthusiasts.
The event, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Biodiversity Council, aimed to educate people, particularly the youth, about the importance of biodiversity, healthy forests, green mountains, meadows, and water bodies. Experts highlighted how climate change and global warming are drastically altering the environment, creating daily challenges for people.
Eminent speakers, including forest department officials, academicians, biologists, botanists, columnists, and wildlife experts, delivered lectures on the urgent need for robust biodiversity to safeguard future generations.
A large number of students from various schools and colleges attended the event. The participants demanded that the government should organise monthly progress in educational institutions to further educate the youth about environmental conservation.
'I believe that biodiversity should not be celebrated only on a single day. It should be a priority every day. We must always strive to protect our environment and maintain a healthy ecosystem,' Alam Syed, a student told ANI.
'If we look at the ozone layer, for example, pollution levels were much lower in the past, and the ozone layer was in better condition. Now, however, due to increased pollution, we are experiencing extreme heat waves as a result of ozone layer depletion. Our ecosystem is deteriorating more and more.
'That is why I believe that whatever initiatives we are taking now--no matter how small--should be implemented in our daily lives. Whether in schools, colleges, or on campuses, we should spread more awareness about biodiversity and environmental conservation,' he added. (ANI)

402 Agniveers pass out from Dogra Regimental Centre after rigorous 31-week training
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): The Dogra Regimental Centre held the passing out parade and attestation ceremony for the 5th Agniveer Course on June 4 at the historic Jamedar Lala Parade Ground, according to a release on Friday. A total of 402 Agniveers passed out and were attested to be sworn in as part of the Indian Army. The Agniveers underwent rigorous training for 31 weeks from November 1, 2024, to June 4, 2025. This training included tactical and physical training, drill, weapon handling, field/ battle craft, and endurance, turning them into professional soldiers. Team-building and Esprit-de-Corps were ingrained through various sports and professional competitions during the training. A highlight of the training was a weeklong training camp conducted under realistic field conditions. The camp put Agniveers into various tactical exercises and situations, initially keeping them self-sustained for 72 hours in field conditions. It culminated in a gruelling 40 km 'Josh Run', a true test of endurance, spirit, strength, and willpower. Major General Anupam Baghi, Additional Director General of Rashtriya Rifles, and Brigadier Jitendra Sharma, Commandant, The Dogra Regimental Centre, reviewed the parade in the presence of other officers, families, civil dignitaries, and parents of Agniveers. The young Agniveers took the oath to serve the nation with pride and dedication, and to uphold the values of the Indian Army. The Dogra Regimental Centre has a rich history of producing brave and dedicated soldiers who have served the nation with distinction. The event was a proud moment for the Dogra Regimental Centre as it inducted the 5th batch of Agniveers into various battalions of the Dogra Regiment. (ANI)

Passing out parade of 5th Agniveer batch held at Army Air Defence Centre, Gopalpur
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): The Army Air Defence Centre, Gopalpur, witnessed a proud and momentous occasion as the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the fifth batch of Agniveers was held on Thursday, June 5. The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Hemant Singh, Commandant of the Army Air Defence Centre, who congratulated the 401 Agniveers on successfully completing their rigorous training and taking their 'Antim Pag' (final step) towards joining the ranks of the Indian Army. The event was marked by an impressive drill display, which was a testament to the high standards of discipline and training imparted at the Centre. Brigadier Hemant Singh, in his address, highlighted that drill is the bedrock of military discipline. He emphasised that excellent drill not only reflects the physical and mental coordination of the soldiers but also showcases the unwavering discipline and unity among the Agniveers. 'A soldier's discipline is forged on the drill square. The precision and synchronization displayed today are a reflection of your commitment and the high standards set by the Army Air Defence Centre,' he remarked. A special highlight of the ceremony was the presence of the proud parents of the Agniveers, who were invited to witness this significant milestone in their wards' lives. In recognition of their support and sacrifice, the parents were presented with the 'Gourav Padak,' a token of honour and gratitude from the Army. During his address, Brigadier Hemant Singh exhorted the Agniveers to continue to excel in all walks of life, both within and outside the Army. He made special mention of the recent Operation Sindoor, a landmark operation in which Army Air Defence Gunners, many of whom were trained at the very same Centre, successfully shot down 600 hostile drones. He encouraged the passing out Agniveers to draw inspiration from such feats and to uphold the proud traditions of the Corps.
