Cruz hits 513-foot homer, joins Raleigh, Caminero and Buxton in Home Run Derby semifinals
Atlanta's Matt Olson, Washington's James Wood, the New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr., and the Athletics' Brent Rooker were eliminated.
Cruz and Caminero each hit 21 long balls and Buxton had 20 in the opening round of the annual power show. Raleigh and Rooker had 17 apiece, but Raleigh advanced on the tiebreaker of their longest homer, 470.61 feet to 470.53.
Cruz faced Raleigh in the semifinals, while Caminero took on Buxton.
The longest derby homer since Statcast started tracking in 2016 was 520 feet by Juan Soto in the mile-high air of Denver's Coors Field in 2021. Last year, the longest drive at Arlington, Texas, was 473 feet by Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna.
Cruz's long drive was the hardest-hit at 118 mph.
Raleigh, who leads the major leagues with 38 homers, was pitched to by his father, Todd, former coach of Tennessee and Western Carolina. His younger brother Todd Raleigh Jr. did the catching.
Just the second Derby switch-hitter after Baltimore's Adley Rutschman in 2023, Raleigh hit eight left-handed, took a timeout, then hit seven right-handed. Going back to lefty, then hit two more in the bonus round.
Wood hit 16 homers, including a 486-foot shot and one that landed on the roof of the Chop House behind the right-field wall. Olson, disappointing his hometown fans, finished with 15 and was eliminated in the first round for the second time.
Chisholm hit just three homers.

Royals reacquire Adam Frazier in an All-Star break trade with the Pirates
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals reacquired veteran utility player Adam Frazier in an All-Star break trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kansas City sent minor league infielder Cam Devanney to Pittsburgh. Frazier, 33, has played in 78 games this season split between second base, left field and right field, hitting .255 with 21 RBIs. He spent last season with KC after bouncing around the majors following his start with the Pirates and has played every position except catcher and pitcher during his career since debuting in 2016. Frazier joins the Royals as they are 4 1/2 games back of the American League's final wild-card spot. They are 12 games behind Detroit for first in the AL Central. Devanney, 28, has spent this season at Triple-A Omaha and has not yet made his major league debut.

Pogačar crashes and Abrahamsen wins stage in Tour de France
Associated Press TOULOUSE, France (AP) — Norwegian rider Jonas Abrahamsen attacked from the start and won 11th stage of the Tour de France while race favorite Tadej Pogačar crashed near the finish on Wednesday. Pogačar, the three-time champion, crashed with 6 kilometers remaining. His rivals for the general classification slowed down so he could get back on his bike and rejoin them. Abrahamsen finished just ahead of Swiss rider Mauro Schmid by a photo finish in a final sprint between the two after Belgian rider Mathieu van der Poel made a late push to catch them. It's the Norwegian rider's first stage win at the Tour and the first in this race for his team, Uno-X Mobility. Van der Poel was 7 seconds behind in third, while the GC group including Pogačar and yellow jersey-holder Ben Healy finished 3:28 back. Players poll forecasts Caitlin Clark as future face of the WNBA
As Saturday's WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis swiftly approaches, The Athletic has been conducting an anonymous survey based on the opinions of 40 non-rookie WNBA players across the league's 13 teams on various superlatives. On Monday, the publication released its results on who the group of players felt was the league's top athlete, as well as the top "trash-talker", with Minnesota Lynx's Napheesa Collier and Phoenix Mercury's Alyssa Thomas each claiming the top spot. On Tuesday, The Athletic revealed the results behind who the anonymous pool of players believed would be the face of the WNBA in the next five years, which showed Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark as the victor by a landslide margin. According to the data collected, Clark received 53.8% of the total votes. In a distant second place is current USC guard JuJu Watkins with 17.9% of the vote, followed by Dallas Wings' 2025 No. 1 overall pick and current rookie guard Paige Bueckers at 14.1% in third, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese in fourth place at 6.4%, and Las Vegas Aces center A'Ja Wilson closing out the top five with 3.8%. Players such as Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink and Seattle Storm forward Dominique Malong combined to represent the remaining 3.8% of the vote. Contrary to the opinion of her peers in the WNBA All-Star players' vote, Clark's influence on the league's rapidly growing popularity, record-setting television viewership numbers, and her inspiration amongst the younger generation was properly acknowledged. While Clark continues her second year in the WNBA, time will tell whether she will indeed become the face of the league amongst both the fans and her peers.
