UK holidaymakers save on duty free by doing one thing before arriving at the airport
We've discovered a clever trick holidaymakers can do before arriving at the airport to get even more money off the already discounted goodies. Currently, World Duty Free customers can bag an extra 10% off their basket if they reserve their items online and collect them at the airport prior to travelling.
This offer allows shoppers to reap even greater savings on premium spirits, designer fragrances and luxury skincare, without the last-minute airport shopping stress. Instead, customers can peruse online, select their airport pick-up location and not part with a single penny until collecting the items before boarding.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, one of the items included in the offer is the Johnnie Walker Black Label Triple Cask Edition Blended Scotch Whisky. The one-litre bottle, a travel retail exclusive, is priced at £38.59, but with the 10% saving, it drops to £34.73. A regular 70cl bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label typically costs £35.38 at Asda, so to get an additional 30cl and a much more exclusive version of the beverage for less is ideal.
The Triple Cask edition, the third in the Black Label family, is characterised as 'sweet, fruity and spicy', and would make a fabulous holiday present for a loved one. It undergoes maturation in Whisky and Bourbon Oak casks before being finished in a Caribbean Rum Cask, which imparts its distinctive flavour profile with notes of brown sugar, toffee, orchard fruit, vanilla and a hint of smoke.
There's also a promotion on selected whiskies where customers can purchase two bottles for £45. This includes Chivas Regal's 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, which retails at £46.55 on the high street but is priced at £27.89 at World Duty Free. As part of this deal, shoppers can acquire two bottles for less than the cost of one full-priced bottle from the high street. The only drawback is that the 10% discount for Reserve and Collect cannot be combined with other offers like this one.
For travellers wanting to stock up on skincare products ahead of their holiday, the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm 125ml is reduced from its RRP of £34 to £28.30, before the further 10% reduction brings it down to £25.47 at checkout when using Reserve and Collect. This lightweight cleansing balm effectively removes stubborn eye and face makeup, including those containing sunscreen. The best price we found elsewhere was at LookFantastic, where it's currently discounted by 21% to £26.95.
Savvy customers can snatch up to a 40% discount on fragrances at duty free, ideal for those looking for the perfect summery holiday scent. A bargain we've discovered is the Carolina Herrera's Good Girl Blush Elixir Eau de Parfum which is a steal at the airport for £85.30 for a 50ml bottle – normally retailing at £108 in Boots. World Duty Free shoppers who reserve it in advance can snap it up for £76.77.
For holidaymakers wanting to take advantage of this service, it's worth noting that purchases need to be made a minimum of 24 hours before going through security, hence it's not set for last-minute deciders. For those who currently don't have a trip planned, fear not, as Stena Line is currently promoting Duty-Free day excursions from Holyhead to Dublin, with prices starting at £10 per person. This gives travellers access to shop in their duty free haven, showcasing over 450 top-tier labels.
World Duty Free shoppers have been left impressed, with one reviewer commenting: "I had exceptional service today by a very knowledgeable young Lady Katie. There was a great range of products and she couldn't do enough for me. I would recommend this shop and will be using it again when I next travel."
Another chimed in with high praise: "The best thing about WDF was their helpful and friendly staff member Uzma M. Uzma exceeded expectations with assistance on purchasing souvenirs to pointing the way to my gate and reclining chairs. Without Uzma I would have departed without making a purchase. WDF sales and ratings can only go up with great role model staff members like her."
However, not all feedback for World Duty Free is glowing, as one customer pointed out: "Heathrow Terminal 2. Bought some UK gin at a reasonable price compared to US price. Unfortunately, they charged in US dollars with a 3% mark up - no one mentioned that it was going to be charged in US dollars and not GB pounds. Make sure you are charged in UK pounds as your credit card will save you a 3% mark up."
Yet another satisfied customer shared their experience: "I have wonderful experience provided by Sigita in Bristol airport. Very fabulous experience and very knowledgeable of perfume products. She is the great. Thanks a lot."

Jet, Set, Glow: How to turn pre-flight time into a wellness ritual
The airport might not be the first place you think of when you think about wellness, but believe me, you can hone healthy habits just about anywhere. Feeling well is about small incremental changes that are easy to manage and I've got plenty of tips on how to apply these ahead of a holiday. Part of my job is travelling to health retreats around the world so there are a few things I do when I arrive at Heathrow to prepare me for this. Read on for my tips on how to transform waiting at your gate into a wellness ritual. There are great wellness wins to be found in Duty-Free if you know where to look. Discounted skincare? Yes please. I'll always head to the World Duty Free stores to stock up on my flight favourites to hydrate, protect and soothe stressed out skin and wellness tools to fight jet-lag and keep my healthy habits up on the other side. Don't believe what you see on TikTok – you don't want to be putting on a load of skincare and facemasks on a plane. Dermatologists agree that less is more, so I pick up one of Aesop's simple Venturer kits and use it as soon as I'm on the plane. The mouthwash and deodorant contain no nasties and the natural scents soothe the nervous system. I also head to the Charlotte Tilbury counter to make the most of the deals there. The Magic Cream is gentle and hydrating so I use it on the plane once I've taken any make up off to stop my skin drying out in transit. I also usually pick up an In-Flight Hydrate, Protect and Glow kit, which contains a hydrating travel-sized mist, primer and lip oil. If you're concerned about your circulation on a flight, you can find incredible ayurvedic massage tools and neurocosmetic oils from Mauli Rituals to give the brain and skin a boost while you're waiting to board and in flight. The brand's bath salts are great for jet lag recovery too. I slather hand cream on to prevent dryness while I'm in air conditioned spaces so I also make a beeline for L'Occitane products while I'm in the World Duty Free store – the minis are great for travelling and there are some cute travel exclusives available, such as the Shea Travel Must Have's Set. Elemis also does a great selection of minis. If you don't want to bring your entire skincare routine on holiday, opt for the whole Elemis protocol in minis in a travel exclusive set for a gentle hydrating pro‑collagen fix. Tips for making the most of Duty-Free You can reserve your products online up to 30 days before your trip, so rather than stressing about what's in stock or turning up without a clue, I recommend pre-ordering and heading straight to the desk for what you need. Then enjoy a bit of a browse. Stress isn't great for you at any time, let alone when you travel so don't stress yourself out by spending too long looking for what you need and having to run to your gate. I recommend pre-ordering the Aesop kit, Charlotte Tilbury skincare or Mauli Rituals' travel-size oils. It's also worth looking for travel-exclusive offers and sets. The Charlotte Tilbury, Elemis and Clinique travel sets are often much better value than high street versions Shop: other healthy hotspots to visit There are a host of other stores I like to visit for essentials when I arrive at Heathrow and Boots is obviously one of them. This is where I find all my supplements – magnesium for sleep and muscle tension, electrolytes to maintain hydration while travelling and probiotics or digestive enzymes to keep my gut happy. I also head to the Rituals store for more aromatherapy goodness but usually I'll have already stocked up in World Duty-Free. One thing I won't have found in Duty-Free is clothing, so I go to Lululemon for buttery-soft comfies to wear on the plane. Of course, no airport visit is complete without popping into WH Smiths for a book – next on my list is Genius Gut by Dr Emily Leeming. Stretch: use the free aerobics zones and quiet areas and lounges Did you know that Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 both offer quiet areas for stretching? This is a must if you're going to be sitting down for ages on your flight. A quick stretch or yoga session helps to alleviate tight hips, back and neck pain and avoid swelling – especially if you do it before you board and after you land. Compression socks can also help with swelling and improve your circulation but it's great to wake the body up too. Try ankle rolls, neck rotations, legs up the wall and cat-cow stretches. You can also use this time to use your Mauli Rituals massage tools to boost circulation and get your muscles nice and relaxed before having to sit still for an extended period. Even if you're flying economy, you can also book into lounges like Plaza Premium or No1 Lounge for a fee. Many include quiet zones, hot food, showers and complimentary herbal teas. Terminal 5 also has a spa inside some lounges like the Sofitel Heathrow if you're really in need of some downtime whilst passing through the airport, perhaps for a connecting flight. Eat to feel well: Heathrow's healthiest food options There are so many eateries and shops I recommend at Heathrow, you just have to know where to look for the healthiest finds. Eating high protein and fibre options will mean you stay fuller for longer and feel comfortable on your flight. You might also want to think about whether you plan to sleep on the plane or not, and either go for foods and drinks that will relax you, or give you an energy boost, depending on your plans. I'll always go for a high protein breakfast from Pret over a fry up at 'spoons. I also love their ginger shots for an extra immunity boost before breathing in aeroplane air. If I want to feel awake and invigorated, I'll go for a juice and a matcha from Joe and the Juice. Leon is a great shout if you want something more filling that won't leave you feeling sluggish – think fast, fresh options including quinoa bowls, grilled chicken, and veggie pots. For a sit-down meal, head to Giraffe for global-inspired meals with veggie options, smoothies and herbal teas. My all-time favourite spot is Itsu for sushi, miso soup, edamame and gut-friendly options that won't leave me feeling bloated or uncomfortable during the flight. Then I'll stock up on snacks from M&S food for the plane – fresh fruit, nuts and coconut water for hydration. Eating mineral-rich food like this and staying hydrated can help lessen jet lag. Heathrow has water refill stations in every terminal after security. Staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to reduce jet lag, boost focus, and support digestion—especially important if you're flying long haul. I fill mine up with filtered water and then drink it before I go through security. On the other side it's easy to refill your bottle or buy a new bottle of filtered water. You can also bring your own herbal tea bags, electrolytes and soothing adaptogenic drinks from home. Most come in travel-size sachets and all you have to do is politely ask any coffee shop or restaurant for hot or cold water in a takeaway cup or your reusable cup to mix them up. Chill: create a pre-flight ritual I always create a personal ritual to feel grounded whilst I'm in an airport. They can be busy frenetic places and you might already feel tired from an early start. I like to do a guided meditation (there are plenty of free ones on Spotify) with my headphones on while I'm sitting down paired with some box breathing exercises. I also do it again once I'm in my seat on the plane. This relaxes the nervous system and gets you into a more positive mental state. It's great for alleviating any stress, preparing you for any stressful or challenging situations or calming your nerves if you happen to be a nervous flyer. You can also use your aromatherapy oils, a rollerball or a spray to soothe your senses and reset. Just be mindful of other people around you if you're spraying something. I also try to use the opportunity of time spent waiting at my gate to read a book, instead of doom-scrolling on my phone. If I'm doing this, I pop my earplugs in to drown out the noise around me – my favourites are from Loop. If you prefer to take in your surroundings, pop your headphones on and listen to a soothing or uplifting playlist. I like to curate these before I head to the airport to help me get into the right headspace when I need it. If you do suffer with anxiety around crowds, feel nervous about flying or just want to feel more grounded, you can practice saying a few affirmations and mantras for confidence and calm. This could be something as simple as: 'I am safe and I travel with ease'. Armed with all these tips you'll hopefully be able to board your flight feeling relaxed, prepared and excited to travel to destinations far and wide. Though the unknown can be stressful, there are plenty of ways to feel more optimistic and resilient if we know how to take better care of ourselves, wherever we are.

'I visited 17 European cities in a year — skip these 3 for a better time'
A travel influencer and foodie has revealed the three European cities she 'would have skipped' after spending time in 17 different destinations across the continent One woman has revealed the three European destinations she'd avoid going to again, having visited 17 different cities last year. Sooyeon, who lives in San Francisco in the US, went on the adventure of a lifetime to visit the continent. Having stopped off at more than a dozen cities, she found herself disappointed by three locations in particular. On her TikTok channel @soos. foods, she revealed: "These are three cities I probably would've skipped," before clarifying, "Doesn't mean these are bad destinations, I just didn't enjoy them as much as other cities." Madrid topped her list of disappointments, reports the Manchester Evening News. Despite spending two and a half days there in 2022 following a visit to Barcelona, she confessed that the coastal city won her over far more than Spain's majestic capital. She explained: "The main reason is because I went to both Madrid and Barcelona on the same trip, and I feel like Madrid didn't have as many interesting things to do for me at least, other than the palace and museums. "...If I were to do this trip again, I would probably skip Madrid and spend more time in Barcelona." Catania proved another destination that failed to meet Sooyeon's hopes. Situated on Sicily's eastern coastline, the ancient port city initially appeared like a perfect 'Italian holiday' destination, yet it didn't match her expectations. Sooyeon shared: "The city just felt a little run down and not the safest. "People were also not afraid to stare at you - I'm sure they weren't trying to be rude or mean, but it felt a little uncomfortable as a female traveller." Berlin also featured on Sooyeon's list, though her concerns with the German capital differed from her gripes about Catania and Madrid. She recognised Berlin's 'welcoming' atmosphere and its selection of 'cool cafes, shops and roads', yet felt something was missing. "Don't get me wrong, I would love to live in Berlin," Sooyeon confessed. "But, as a tourist, I feel like the main attractions are history museums which I personally am not the biggest on, especially because at this point on my trip I was getting severe museum fatigue." She also observed that the dining scene was rather international, making it trickier for her to discover genuine local dishes, which remains a priority during her travels. "The food scene was also pretty international, so I didn't find as many options for authentic local food, which is something I try to eat everywhere I go. Again, this is just my experience - what doesn't work for me, could work for you." Sooyeon's honest assessments triggered a wave of reactions on TikTok, with users split over her views on these beloved destinations. One user championed Madrid, declaring: "I will not accept any Madrid slander! I've been like four times and it's an incredible city." Others urged travellers not to dismiss Catania, with one comment stating: "Everyone here pls don't skip Catania," whilst another user challenged her perception of Berlin's cleanliness: "Berlin is clean? What girl?"

'Best' UK theme park is wildly overlooked and tickets are available for just £14
Dianne Bourne went to Gulliver's World with her kids and realised it's one of the best value-for-money family days out in the region For a brilliant family day out, there's one destination that offers exceptional value whilst keeping youngsters thoroughly entertained. Manchester Evening News lifestyle editor Dianne Bourne ventured to Gulliver's World with her children and discovered this theme park is seriously underrated. According to Dianne, the Warrington attraction is "arguably one of the best value-for-money family days out in the region". Daily passes start from just £14 per person, available through "secret sales" on Gulliver's official website. During Dianne's visit on a glorious Sunday at the beginning of school holidays - likely the busiest and most "peak" period possible - day passes were priced at £25 per person, or £16 for afternoon entry, reports the Express. The top 20 'childish' activities that parents secretly adore Blackpool Pleasure Beach makes controversial change to its entry policy She wrote: "Even at £25 per person, I found it to be excellent value, considering the enjoyable full day I spent here with my two children, aged nine and five." Gulliver's frequently gets overshadowed in the theme park hierarchy, especially given its proximity to the enormous Alton Towers. Whilst it might not rival adult thrill-seekers' expectations, Gulliver's targets the family demographic specifically, featuring attractions tailored for ages two to 13. Dianne observed: "I was quite impressed that even during peak times, queue lengths never exceeded thirty minutes for any attraction." Those who haven't been to this Cheshire theme park in a while will be amazed by the fantastic new additions. The standout feature is The Land of Oz, which was Dianne's family's starting point for their day out. This magical new area takes its cues from the much-loved Wizard of Oz story and its unforgettable characters. Dianne said: "Visitors can stroll, or dash as my children did, along a yellow brick road... inevitably humming 'follow the yellow brick road' repeatedly - if you're anything like me." The first sight that greets guests is the Upside Down House, where you can wander around and marvel at the rather puzzling spectacle of it all, before exiting via a huge slide (adults included) at the end. Dianne added: "My younger son was particularly fascinated by the twitching limbs of the Wicked Witch pinned beneath the house." Next to the house is a child-friendly driving experience where little ones think they're in charge - and they'll probably enjoy spotting a munchkin (and other colourful characters) along the forest path. However, the most striking new attraction in this part of the theme park has to be the Winged Monkeys. These creatures from the classic Wizard of Oz have haunted many a dream over the years. Yet here at Gulliver's World, visitors can climb aboard one of these spooky creatures as they glide through the air. The brilliant thing about this attraction is that older kids (and grown-ups) can choose to hit a button to flip upside down for an even more thrilling experience, whilst younger ones can simply enjoy the journey as the monkeys bounce up and down. Dianne revealed: "My nine-year-old dared to try one spin in the monkey before deciding to remain upright for the remainder of the ride, much to my relief." Following all the thrills of the new Land of Oz, Dianne chose to explore Western World and was delighted to discover just a brief queue for one of the most beloved attractions, Apache Falls. She explained: "This ride is a bit of a hybrid between a Rapids ride and a log flume, and one thing's for sure - you're going to get wet. Not that my children minded, they absolutely loved it." Meanwhile, Gully's Cartoon Studios serves as an excellent spot for lunch and features an extra soft play zone inside the restaurant. Dianne noted: "It's these little extras that make a day out like this more manageable for parents, I believe. The soft play provided a distraction for the kids while I queued for our hot food at the takeaway." There's so much on offer that Dianne and her family couldn't experience all the attractions. She commented: "One of the things I adore about Gulliver's World is its compact layout, making it easy to navigate and ensuring everything feels within reach. "The park is also visually appealing, boasting plenty of greenery and a large pool at its centre, home to numerous ducks and moorhens that kept the children entertained during our brief ice cream break." Compared to other family attractions like the Trafford Centre Summer Funfair where Dianne once spent £64 on rides for two children over just two hours, plus an entrance fee of £10.50 for three of them, Gulliver's World (which cost £75 for three) offers incredible value for a full day out. Dianne stated: "I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to entertain children under 12 during the school summer holidays. If you can be flexible with your dates, keep an eye out for those £14 tickets too."
