No more rentals: Trader lands on Teluk Intan council blacklist after sledgehammer stunt over blocked shopfront
TELUK INTAN, May 12 — A watchmaker in a mall outlet in Jalan Bandar here, who ran amok by breaking the glass door entrance of the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) building last week, has been blacklisted from further rental.
Perak executive councillor of Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration A. Sivanesan said MPTI has given the 63-year-old man a month's notice to vacate his shop.
'His action (going on a rampage and damaging public property at the MPTI building) is unacceptable and we (the state) cannot tolerate the matter. He will be blacklisted by MPTI and will not be able to rent any stall or shop here in future.
'Also, he has not paid rent for two months, which is only RM150 per month. This serves as a lesson for him and other tenants, not to take the law into their own hands,' he said.
Sivanesan made these remarks during a visit to the Chithirai Pournami festival at the Sri Subramaniam Temple which was attended by some 20,000 Hindu devotees on Jalan Bandar here today.
On Thursday, Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the watchmaker arrived at the MPTI building on a motorcycle and proceeded to smash both of the building's main glass doors with a sledgehammer.
Bakri stated that in his testimony, the man defended his misdemeanour due to dissatisfaction with MPTI's decision to set up tents in front of his shop during the annual Chitra (or Chithirai) Pournami festival, as they obstructed customers' view of his watch repair shop.
Earlier, a one-minute 30-second viral video showed a man astride a motorcycle descending on the MPTI building to smash the glass doors in a rage. — Bernama

'The other deceased victims were Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, a friend of the couple,' he said in a statement here today. 'The sole survivor is Alvin Chang, 17.' A video of the capsized boat being towed to the shore has since been widely circulated on social media.

Middle East-based engineer loses RM1.5m in online investment scheme, discovers scam only after failed withdrawal attempt
BUKIT MERTAJAM, June 7 — An engineer working in the Middle East lost over RM1.5 million to an online investment scam recently. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad sad the victim, 40, lodged a report with the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters commercial crimes investigation division yesterday. 'In November last year the man got to know a woman through the phone and had a relationship before the woman invited him to join an investment scheme called GoldenCrimson that offered handsome returns. 'The man was interested to invest and was given a customer service number and a website link to register, and he invested RM90,510 and received returns of RM108,611,' he said in a statement tonight. The man grew confident in the scheme and made 103 transactions to 31 different accounts totalling RM1,532,563 from Dec 2 to March 8, and realised he was scammed when he failed to withdraw RM4,131,671 through the app but was asked instead to provide additional capital to be able to withdraw his profits. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — Bernama

Three, including child, killed as boat capsizes in Tanjung Harapan, couple still missing, says Selangor MMEA
SHAH ALAM, June 7 — Three people, including a child, died after a boat capsized in the waters off Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang, yesterday. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, said the incident occurred at around 5 pm and involved six locals, aged between three and 50. He said two other victims, a married couple, were reported missing, while one victim was rescued by fishermen. The search for the two missing individuals continued this morning, with the firefighters conducting diving operations. 'The deceased victims are Darren Gan, a three-year-old son of the missing couple, and Cheu Son Hin, 50, both found in the front compartment of the boat,' he added. 'Also killed was Fong Yong Sen, 29, a friend of the couple, while another victim, Chang Yan Qin Alvin, 17, survived,' he said in a statement here today. He added that the missing victims were identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama. Abdul Muhaimin said initial investigations found that the boat likely lost control before capsizing. He added that his team activated the rescue operation at 5.16 pm after receiving information about the incident. The operation was promptly launched, involving assets from the MMEA and supported by the Marine Police Force (PPM), the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), as well as passenger boats nearby. 'The capsized boat was successfully towed to the floating jetty of the Selangor MMEA headquarters before the search and rescue operation was suspended at around 8 pm,' he said.
