Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates target breaks silence on transfer talk

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been circling one of the PSL's brightest young prospects, Yanela Mbuthuma of Richards Bay FC. But the 23-year-old striker has finally broken his silence, downplaying the growing speculation while sharing his amazement at receiving a surprise call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
Since his move to the Natal Rich Boyz at the start of the 2022/2023 season, Mbuthuma has steadily carved out a name for himself. He quickly became a first-team regular and has since amassed 10 goals and eight assists in 83 appearances across all competitions.
Mbuthuma's consistent form caught the attention of national selectors, earning him a place in the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Mozambique and Tanzania.
Despite his growing reputation, the humble forward admits he was stunned by the news.
'I'm very happy that I have been given an opportunity and was called to the national team,' said Mbuthuma, as quoted by FARPost .
'I was very shocked when I got this opportunity because I wasn't expecting it. When I first started playing football, I wasn't even picturing myself at this level. So, I'm still shocked.'
Mbuthuma's name has been frequently mentioned in connection with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. With reports suggesting that both clubs have made enquiries. However, any potential move won't come cheap, he recently signed a new five-year deal with Richards Bay, firmly committing his future to the club.
Despite the noise, Mbuthuma says his focus remains firmly on his personal growth.
'I don't pay attention to that a lot because I play to entertain people. Not because I wanna impress big teams,' he said.
'For now, that's not in my mind. I'm still okay at Richards Bay, so I can just prove myself even more.'
Mbuthuma's grounded approach sets him apart in a league known for quick rises and even quicker falls. With his eyes fixed on improving as a player, and not on glamour moves or headlines. He is quietly becoming one of South African football's most exciting prospects.
Whether he eventually makes the leap to a Soweto giant or continues to shine at Richards Bay. One thing is certain, Yanela Mbuthuma is a name you'll be hearing a lot more of.
Will Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates target be a good fit for either club?

Top transfer target rejects rivals, says ‘yes' to joining Kaizer Chiefs!

Kaizer Chiefs have received a huge boost in the pursuit of one of their top transfer targets for next season. Chiefs are looking to add quality and depth to their squad as they prepare to compete on the continent next campaign. Last season was yet another one to forget for Chiefs, as they saw themselves finishing outside top eight. This was for the second season in a row, and only the third in their history. The only saving grace they had this time around was their Nedbank Cup trophy triumph. That win was not only their first trophy in 10 years, but a gateway into the CAF Confederation Cup next season. That will mean more games and more travelling rigours for the club. In order to combat that, while remaining competitive on the local front, Chiefs management will have to step up. This in the way of backing coach Nasreddine Nabi with a squad filled with quality in strength and depth. One of the targets he has been rumoured to desperately want is Feisal Salum. Amakhosi were rumoured to have been subjects of a bid to Azam FC for services in January. That bid was rejected but it is now reported that Azam are more receptive to selling Salum this window. Now according to FARPost, Chiefs coach Nabi has convinced the talented midfielder his project. It is believed that he is now ready to reject Simba SC to join Amakhosi! 'Nabi reportedly held a crucial meeting with Feisal Salum during his visit. This meeting confirms Nabi's continued keen interest in the dynamic midfielder, a player he has long admired. Previous attempts to secure Salum's services hit a snag due to a significant disparity in valuation between the clubs involved. However, the recent meeting appears to have breathed new life into the potential transfer. Crucially, sources close to the player confirm he is highly receptive to the project and is eager to join Chiefs next season.' Wrote the publication. Chiefs fans, how big a transfer would it be if you were to sign Salum? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Khumalo pleasantly surprised as hastily arranged Cosafa squad takes shape

Vela Khumalo, the coach of the Bafana 'B' side that will take part in the 2025 Cosafa Cup in Bloemfontein, was pleasantly surprised at the sharp condition his players arrived in on Monday ahead of their opening game against Mozambique on Wednesday. The Kaizer Chiefs youth coach, who also steered the South African under-17s to their age group Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal last month and qualification for the U-17 World Cup, will take charge of the Bafana emerging combination at the Cosafa Cup. Khumalo's side that takes the field in their in their Group A opener at Free State Stadium (3pm) could more accurately be called an 'Emerging B'. Bafana coach Hugo Broos is taking charge of the senior team in friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique's senior side in Polokwane on Friday and next Tuesday with a squad missing his Mamelodi Sundowns contingent and including a host of new faces as he casts his net wide for talent.

NEW: Kaizer Chiefs DIDN'T have R3m bid rejected for striker!

It's clear Kaizer Chiefs are searching for a striker or two to boost their attack ahead of the 2025/26 season. Chiefs have been struggling in front of goal for several seasons now and will look to end those woes soon. Coach Nasreddine Nabi made it no secret that he wanted to bring in a striker, when he arrived at Chiefs. He didn't get his wish in his first window but was able to add two forwards in January. These being Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo. These experienced stars were brought in to supplement a blunt-looking attack which featured Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez and a young Wandile Duba. While Morris proved to be a flop, Lilepo ended up being the club's joint top goal scorer with young Duba with five. That, however, just highlighted the need for a senior striker to shoulder that goal scoring burden. There have been a number of players mentioned in that regard, with DRC international Fiston Mayele one. Earlier on Tuesday, this publication reported that Chiefs had also made an enquiry for Etiosa Ighodaro. The player has spent the last couple of seasons on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and could now be keen for a permanent exit. Another option Amakhosi were rumoured to have an interest in is Simba SC striker Kibu Denis. Reports had recently circulated that Chiefs had put in a bid of R3 million to Simba for Denis. But according to FARPost , those reports are wide off the mark, because the club are not interested in the player. 'While initial reports linked him to several players, sources close to the coach confirm that his primary focus remains on Tanzanian international midfielder Feisal Salum, while emphatically dismissing any interest in Simba SC's Kibu Denis.' Wrote the publication. Chiefs fans, now that Denis seems not to be a target, which striker should the club target for next season? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab.
