Angels slugger Mike Trout mashes first home run since returning from injury
Mike Trout is back in the lineup for the Los Angeles Angels and seeing him do what he does best — hitting home runs — is a welcome sight for the team's fans.
Trout hit his first homer since returning to the lineup after a 10-day injury list stint due to his left knee. The three-time MVP launched a three-run shot against the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the Angels' series at Fenway Park, his first since April 25.
It's Trout's ninth dinger on the season, and it comes with the Angels after having dropped two of three over the weekend against the Cleveland Guardians. But the positive development was seeing Trout back in the lineup for both the Friday and Saturday games in Cleveland before sitting out the Sunday finale.
Prior to going on the IL on April 30, Trout had been hitting a career-low .179. Since his return, he's had six hits in the four games he's played — including Monday's 454-ft homer. The Angels are bringing their star hitter back slowly. Trout has yet to play in right field since coming back from the IL and is expected to be the designated hitter for the time being. Once the team returns to Anaheim, manager Ron Washington will assess when the 11-time All-Star go back to playing defense.
The Angels were able to keep pace with Trout sidelined, which included an eight-game winning streak composed of series sweeps of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Athletics. But they've stumbled since then by dropping seven of eight.

Red Sox, Angels get into heated shouting match ahead of series finale at Fenway Park
Before the Red Sox and Angels had a chance to close out their three-game series at Fenway Park on Wednesday, the two teams got into a heated pre-game argument on the field. Coaches from both teams had to be separated as they jawed back and forth with each other. It's unclear why there was a loud and animated confrontation between the two teams, but it started when Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson had words with Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. It erupted from there with Flores getting into it with Angels pitching coach Barry Enright, which prompted a number of Red Sox players to take the field. There was kerfuffle between the Angels and Red Sox a little while ago with words exchanged along third base line. Seemed to start with Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson having words with Red Sox coach Jose Flores. NESN initially posted video of the altercation to the station's X account ahead of Wednesday's game, but later deleted the post. Cora had already spoken with reporters ahead of Wednesday's series finale when the incident occurred, so we'll have to wait until after the game to get his thoughts on what went down. But it would seem as though Anderson took exception to something that happened during Los Angeles' 4-3 win in 10 innings and aired his grievances to Boston before Wednesday's finale. Angels centerfielder Joe Adell was plunked by Boston starter Brayan Bello early in Tuesday night's game, but pitchers don't usually target a team's No. 8 hitter. Maybe Anderson wasn't happy with some high heat from Boston relievers during the contest, as Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman both threw some chin music to Angels hitters (likely unintentional) late in the game. Now we'll wait to see if there are any carryover fireworks in Wednesday's series finale. It's the final time the Angels will play at Fenway Park this season, though the Red Sox head out West for a three-game series in Los Angeles from June 23-25. The Angels won the first two games of the current three-game series, which has sent the scuffling Red Sox to a 29-34 record for the season.

During an appearance on FS1 on Wednesday morning, Silver was asked about plans for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. He has made several changes to the format of the game since taking over as commissioner, including a change that he admitted was a "miss" last season. Fortunately, the next change that Silver is planning is one that should have been made a long time ago. After the tremendous success of the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off, it sounds like the next NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles at the Intuit Dome will feature USA vs. the World. It so happens that next season will be smack in the middle of the winter Olympics. So the game will be on NBC and the very day we're on will be the lead-in winter Olympic events and coming out of the All-Star Game, which will now be in the afternoon instead of the evening, there will be more Olympic events. So what better time to feature some form of USA against the World." Silver confirmed that he is not sure what the format will be quite yet, but that he paid a lot off attention to what the NHL did earlier this year. While this was arguably long overdue, it gives the players some extra reason to put a pep in their step for some competitiveness when they take the court to put on an exciting show for the exhibition.

Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez snubbed, again, in latest rankings New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez was snubbed in another Pro Football Focus rankings list. This time, he was not listed in the top 10 of the top-32 cornerbacks rankings compiled on the site. Gonzalez did make the list, coming in at No. 13. However, one would think he should have cracked the top 10 after making the All-Pro Second-Team last season. He was also recently left off PFF's top 25 players under the age of 25 list. "Let the play talk," Gonzalez responded, when asked about being left off the previous PFF list. Gonzalez had a stellar season in 2024, recording 59 tackles, 11 past deflections, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Although he earned an All-Pro nod, he was snubbed in the Pro Bowl voting. So people overlooking Gonzalez isn't anything new. PFF's John Kosko wrote: "After missing most of his rookie season due to injury, Gonzalez started the 2024 campaign slowly before catching fire in Week 4 against the 49ers. He played man coverage at a 50.1% rate last season and earned a 78.2 PFF coverage grade, which ranked ninth among cornerbacks." Gonzalez will undoubtedly let his play do the talking. He could be even more dominant in Year 3 with an improved Patriots defense and veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III lining up on the other side.
