AirAsia X Goes Big On Central Asia With New Route To Magical Tashkent, Uzbekistan
We're off to Central Asia, fam! AirAsia X is celebrating its growing presence in Central Asia with the announcement of a brand new route to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, commencing on 15th October 2025 with a frequency of three times a week.
After launching flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan in early 2024 with strong demand, AAX is now adding Tashkent to its network. The new route aims to boost travel between Southeast Asia and Central Asia, strengthening trade, tourism, and business links. With AirAsia's Fly-Thru service, travellers from ASEAN and Australia can now explore Uzbekistan more affordably, with easy connections to over 130 destinations worldwide.

Travellers can soon experience the magic of Tashkent with a promotional introductory fare from RM99 all-in* one-way economy seats starting from 23rd – 29th June 2025 for the travel period between 15th October 2025 and 14th September 2026. This special fare is subject to availability, with subsequent fares starting from RM899**.

Drivers hiding summonses blamed for KDEB's 22,000 traffic offences

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Drivers failing to hand over traffic summonses is one of the main reasons KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd has racked up 22,017 active summonses, according to its managing director, Ramli Tahir. Ramli Tahir. He said the company owns nearly 1,400 lorries registered under its name, but these were operated by subcontractors managing solid waste collection across Selangor. 'When these operators receive summonses, the drivers usually hide them and don't pass them to the contractors or to us. In other words, KDEB has no knowledge of it. 'When a summons remains unpaid for three months, the road transport department (JPJ) will issue the summons to the registered address, and it ends up at our office in Shah Alam,' he told FMT. Ramli said KDEB is required to settle the summonses within two months to avoid court action. He said the company has paid more than 12,000 summonses issued to vehicles driven by the staff of subcontractors for various offences. 'It's just the remaining 22,000 summonses that we're in the process of settling now because we received them late. The operator or the driver didn't hand them over to KDEB. It is possible they were hidden or discarded. 'We will deduct the (summons payment) from the monthly payments made to the relevant subcontractors.' He said all subcontractors have agreed to operate in compliance with the law, including settling traffic summonses. Earlier today, transport minister Loke Siew Fook revealed that 11 commercial vehicle operators were found to have over 1,000 outstanding summonses, including 17 express bus companies with more than 200 each. He said KDEB, a Selangor government-owned solid waste management company under Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated, topped the list with 22,017 active summonses. The offences included technical violations, driving without a valid licence, overloading, operating without a vehicle permit and speeding. All the companies involved have been given 14 days to settle their outstanding summonses at the JPJ state or branch offices.

Stop downplaying concerns over rakyat's burdens, PM told
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (right) accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of being 'thin-skinned' in response to criticisms from PN MPs. PETALING JAYA : The opposition has accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of dismissing public concerns over the economic burdens faced by the people as the expansion of the sales and service tax is set to take effect on July 1. In a Facebook post, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin criticised Anwar for downplaying the concerns raised by PN MPs as 'gimmicks'. 'PN MPs have raised their concerns about the cumulative burdens borne by the public, but the prime minister seems thin-skinned. 'He assumes all the criticisms raised by the opposition stems from ignorance. 'When PN MPs warned that the upcoming RON95 rationalisation could worsen things, PMX said it was merely a gimmick by the opposition,' he said. On June 16, The Star reported Anwar as saying the opposition's negative narrative on the government's proposed subsidy rationalisation exercise is just a 'desperate gimmick' to show that people are facing hardship. 'There is more negative news from them when we need encouraging news to propel our economy,' he said. The SST expansion will see the 0% sales tax rate for basic necessities maintained, and rates of 5% to 10% imposed on non-essential goods from July 1. The service tax will be expanded to include rent, lease, construction, financial services, private healthcare and education. Anwar justified the tax's expansion to include imported goods as a targeted measure aimed at high-income earners. However, Hamzah said the expansion to include over 4,000 goods and services is increasingly burdening the people. 'The government seems indifferent and stuck in denial,' he said.
