Jammu District administration assesses cross-border shelling impact on border villages
Jammu, May 13 (UNI) In the aftermath of recent cross-border shelling, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive tour of the affected areas in Tehsil Marh and Pargwal to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
He was accompanied by SSP Jammu Joginder Singh and Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu, Sher Singh.
During the visit, the DC evaluated the extent of loss of livestock and property, ensuring that relief and State Disaster Response Fund cases are processed promptly.
He also reviewed the condition and requirements of community and individual bunkers, including those necessary for government offices, to enhance civilian safety in these vulnerable regions.
The DC's itinerary included a visit to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Marh to oversee medical facilities and ensure readiness to handle any emergencies arising from the shelling incidents. UNI VBH SSP

Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Asserting that the hilly region of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir has lot many assets that are contributing in fulfilling the dream of 'Viksit Bharat', Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday said that the deposits of huge quantity lithium found in this belt will play a major role in achieving PM Modi's net-zero carbon emissions target by 2070. 'Just few kilometres away from the place we are sitting right now in Reasi, lithium mineral was found in a huge quantity and I am sure whenever it will comes into use, this region will contribute and pave the way for achieving PM Modi's target of net-zero emission by 2070,' Dr Singh said addressing a huge gathering here at the Sports Stadium. PM Modi after dedicating Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla-Rail-Link (USBRL) to the nation by flagging of Vande Bharat on Katra-Srinagar rail link and inaugurating world's highest train bridge on Chenab in Reasi here addressed a public gathering. 'This region (Reasi) has a lot of assets and contributes in fulfilling the dream of 'Viksit-Bharat',' said Dr Singh. Welcoming the PM Modi in the holy Katra town—the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan nestled in the Trikuta Hills, Dr Singh said, '11 years ago, PM Modi inaugurated the Katra Railway Station after becoming the Prime Minister in 2014 by the blessings of 'Mata Rani' as it was destined.' 'The Jammu railway station had witnessed its first train arrival in 1972,' Dr Singh said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership transformed the vision into reality and perhaps it was destined that people of Jammu and Kashmir had to wait for over 50 years, until the start of PM Modi's leadership, to witness this historic moment. He recalled the initial steps taken during Modi's tenure, including a significant public event at Katra Railway Station in 2014. He further said that in the tenure of PM Modi, two Vande Bharat trains started operating between Delhi-Katra, it is in his term, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Corridor started and it is in his term, civilian flights will operate from Udhampur airport. 'We witnessed that our forefathers never saw much transport in the hilly belts but these mountains now have a network of roads and rail tracks,' said the Union Minister. 'These are the same mountains that once heard bullets of terrorists and now have been replaced with train horns,' he added.

PM launches Kashmir train, Mehbooba and Mirwaiz urge release of Kashmiri prisoners
Srinagar, June 6 (UNI) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express connecting Katra with Srinagar, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti and Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq welcomed the improved connectivity but appealed Centre to release Kashmiri prisoners ahead of Eid for healing and justice. PDP chief Mehbooba welcomed the launch of Vande Bharat connecting Kashmir to Jammu via rail and said this long-awaited step promises ease for commuters & boosts connectivity in our region. The former chief minister urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show statesmanship by releasing Kashmiri youth and political detainees. 'On the solemn occasion of Eid Al Adha, I urge Hon'ble PM to consider releasing Kashmiri youth jailed on mere suspicion post the Pahalgam attack. The collective condemnation of the incident by people across the political spectrum reflects our shared rejection of violence. It's time to show statesmanship and compassion, especially towards those languishing in jails across India without serious charges. 'Their sons, husbands, fathers and brothers have been incarcerated for years—many without trial—in jails within and outside J&K. And each passing day, more of our youth are detained,' he said. Mirwaiz said that all such prisoners, including political leadership, remain in the prayers and thoughts of the people. 'If the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) which he often mentions in his speeches, then such humanitarian steps are the real way forward. Train links are welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure,' Mirwaiz said. Kashmir's chief cleric also termed the death of Zubair Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Srinagar, under mysterious circumstances in New Delhi on Monday deeply disturbing. Delhi Court extends judicial custody of Tahawwur Rana till July 9
New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana till July 9. Special Judge Chander Jit Singh after the hearing extended the judicial custody of Rana, who was produced before the court through video conferencing (vc) after expiry of his earlier judicial custody. In this matter, Tihar Jail Authorities had been permitted earlier by the court to file its response to the application of Rana seeking to talk with his family members. The application of Rana will be considered by the court on June 9. The National Investigation Agency filed its reply on the application of Rana and also supplied its copy to the Jail Authorities on the direction of the Court. Tahawwur Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is said to be a close associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks main conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen. The court had earlier also dismissed the application of Rana seeking to talk with his family members. A group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage in Mumbai in November 2008, carrying out a coordinated attack on a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into the metropolis using the sea route in the Arabian Sea. About 166 people were killed due to this assault. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations to carry out the three day-long terror siege of India's financial capital. The US Supreme Court earlier this year dismissed the review petition of Rana, against his extradition and cleared the way for his transfer to Indian custody. UNI XC RN
