Karan Johar REACTS To Dharmendra And Shabana Azmi's Kiss Scene In Rocky Aur Rani: 'One Day…'
It's been two years since Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hit cinemas, but the film is still sparking conversations – and not just for its chart-topping songs or Ranveer-Alia chemistry. As the anniversary rolled around, Karan Johar reflected on the rom-com's place in his career, the buzz around its veteran love story, and the emotional memories tied to his earlier directorial hits.
In a chat with The Times of India, the filmmaker looked back at the 2023 box office hit, which marked his return to the director's chair after a long seven-year break. The film, packed with vibrant family drama, culture clashes, and a surprising moment between two screen legends, clearly holds a special place in his heart.
Asked whether Rocky Aur Rani sits alongside his most beloved works, Karan didn't hold back.
'It is right up there with My Name Is Khan and, of course, my first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to my father's (the eminent producer Yash Johar) face," he said. 'Our production house was suffering huge deficits when I made Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It brought huge financial respite to my dad."
While the film was led by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's lively pairing – he played a loud, full-hearted Punjabi; she was the sharp Bengali journalist – it was another duo that caught the internet's eye. A kiss shared by Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi on screen stirred reactions across social media, becoming one of the most talked-about scenes in the film.
Reacting to the unexpected chatter, Karan said, 'There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani."
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani follows the love story of Rocky, a loud and fun-loving Punjabi guy, and Rani, a smart and confident Bengali journalist. Though they come from very different backgrounds, they fall in love. Before getting married, they decide to switch homes and spend time living with each other's families to understand their cultures better. This leads to lots of drama, funny moments, and emotional ups and downs, as both families struggle with their differences.

Anupam Kher is unbothered by Saiyaara demolishing his film Tanvi The Great at box office: ‘Agar paisa hi sab kuch hota…'
Actor Anupam Kher's directorial Tanvi The Great released in theatres on the same day as Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Saiyaara. While Saiyaara became a massive commercial success, raking in ₹500 crore worldwide, Anupam's film earned only ₹2.52 crore. Now, in an interview with News18, Anupam said that he's unbothered by Tanvi: The Great's box office performance, as films are about emotions and not earnings. Anupam Kher reacts to Tanvi The Great failing at box office due to Saiyaara's craze. Anupam Kher on Tanvi The Great the box office failure When asked if he thinks Saiyaara's craze led to Tanvi The Great failing at the box office, Anupam said, "I don't believe that's true. A few years down the line, when someone will ask you what are your five favourite films, you won't name the ones based on which of these movies made a business worth crores. You'll name the ones which touched your hearts. Maybe Tanvi The Great didn't mint much money, but it is still priceless." The actor further explained how money is not everything and said, "I recently met a lady outside the theatre who hugged me tightly and started crying, saying this was the best film she has ever watched. You don't value everything based only on money. Agar paisa hi sab kuch hota toh phir log hamesha five star hotel me hi khate na, dhaba koi kyu jata (If money was everything, then people would always eat at five-star hotels—why would anyone go to a roadside dhaba?). My film is outstanding commercially." About Tanvi The Great The film tells the story of Tanvi Raina, a 21‑year‑old woman on the autism spectrum, portrayed by newcomer Shubhangi Dutt. Driven by her late Army officer father's unfulfilled dream to salute the Indian flag atop the Siachen Glacier, she embarks on a determined journey to join the Army herself—despite societal and institutional hurdles. While the acting of the cast was appreciated, some critics were disappointed with the execution of the film. The film, which also featured Iain Glen, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, Arvind Swami and Nassar in key roles, managed to collect only ₹2.52 crore at the box office. About Saiyaara Saiyaara, on the other hand, emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 2025 and the biggest romantic film ever in Indian cinema, collecting ₹500 crore worldwide and ₹304 crore at the domestic box office. Helmed by Mohit Suri, the film marked Ahaan Panday's debut alongside Aneet Padda in the lead role.

Wednesday Season 2: Catherine Zeta-Jones Hails 'Amazing' Co-Star Jenna Ortega
Catherine observed that Jenna made time in her busy schedule so that they could prepare properly. Wednesday Season 2: Catherine Zeta-Jones thinks Jenna Ortega is 'amazing". The 55-year-old actress stars alongside Jenna, 22, in the new season of Wednesday, and Catherine has praised her co-star's professional approach to their sword fight scene. She told People: 'We did rehearse it. It's like choreography and stunts. You know, we have to be careful. These are real weapons we're working with." Catherine observed that Jenna made time in her busy schedule so that they could prepare properly for the scene. The actress, who plays Morticia Addams on the hit Netflix show, said: 'She'd find time in her schedule, which is a much bigger schedule than mine, to come and rehearse with me, and then we worked it with the stunt coordinator, and it turned out really fabulous." Catherine has also praised Luis Guzman, who plays Gomez Addams, for his pre-shoot preparations. The duo teamed up to perform a tango, and Catherine revealed that Luis 'just really worked hard". She shared: 'We used to rehearse the four scenes outside, dodging the rain, sometimes in Ireland, in gravel to keep it every day, to keep it fresh. Because, of course, we learned it at the beginning of the show. We weren't shooting it for weeks, three months later. So to keep it fresh and to remember our moves every now and again, we just jump together and we do it. And we laughed." Meanwhile, Jenna previously revealed that she became an 'unhappy person" after season one of Wednesday. The actress plays Wednesday Addams in the Netflix show, but Jenna initially struggled to cope with the pressures of fame and success. She told Harper's Bazaar magazine: 'To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person. After the pressure, the attention, as somebody who's quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary." Jenna now serves as a producer on Wednesday, and she's loving the experience of having a hands-on role with the show. Jenna – who has become one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood in recent years – said: 'I sit in on meetings and listen and learn. I'm still finding my footing in that area."
