Bournemouth radio station expands its digital reach across the south

Yahoo21-04-2025

A BOURNEMOUTH radio station has expanded its digital coverage across the south.
Bournemouth One, the local radio station serving Bournemouth and surrounding areas, is now accessible on Freeview Play channel 277.
This expansion allows listeners with compatible Freeview Play or Freely smart TVs to tune in directly via their television sets in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, along with parts of Wiltshire and West Sussex. Launched on New Year's Day 2024, Bournemouth One has steadily grown its audience to 25,000 last quarter, initially through online streaming and later via DAB Digital Radio across Dorset. Station co-founder Sophie Greenwood: "As a truly digital-first radio station, it's only natural we are available on as many digital platforms as possible, and radio on the TV is another great place to experience the best songs on the radio for offices, shops and homes. "We're also excited to be offering a new way for local businesses to get their message out to our growing audience and would love to chat with any company looking to partner with their local commercial radio station, via our website at BournemouthOne.com." To access Bournemouth One via Freeview, viewers need a compatible smart TV or set-top box connected to both a broadband internet connection and a UK DTT aerial.

Treasury Options Skew June 2025

Implied volatility in options on Treasury futures has drifted lower since April, but the skew—particularly in the belly of the curve—remains a focal point. As traders prepare for a data-heavy June, including Non-Farm Payrolls, CPI‌ and the FOMC, the behavior of skew and CVOL in the Ultra 10-Year (UXY) futures complex offers a revealing lens into how rate risk is being priced. Downside skew in Treasury options—especially on 5-Year (FV), 10-Year (TY) and Ultra 10-Year (UXY) futures—remains elevated. TYVY, the CVOL Index for 10-Year Treasury options, has declined from April highs but is still holding in the 115–120 range. Key macro events ahead: Non-Farm Payrolls – Friday, June 6 . Consumer Price Index (CPI) – Wednesday, June 12. FOMC Statement – Wednesday, June 18, 2:00 p.m. ET; press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET. PCE Price Index – Friday, June 27. Despite the decline in overall volatility, downside skew remains persistent, particularly in UXY and FV options. Traders continue to assign higher premiums to puts relative to calls, reflecting structural demand for downside hedges or latent concerns about fiscal risk, policy missteps ‌or supply shocks. As we approach the June 6 jobs report, and especially the June 18 FOMC decision, this skew could be tested. Traders can use CVOL to see TVL or volatility indices for 2-, 5-, 10-Year and Bond futures. For volatility on options like the growing option volume on Ultra 10-Year futures consider QuikVol's QuikSkew analytics. The 2s10s curve ‌steepened in May, reviving interest in conditional curve trades using options to express directional views on curve shape. Options are increasingly being used to express conditional curve trades. Call spreads in FV versus put spreads in UXY. Butterfly structures around inflection points in UXY to capture steepening potential without excessive Vega exposure. TYVY skew, built on deep liquidity from options on 10-Year Note futures, supports this theme. Depending on one's risk management strategy, options on 10-Year Note futures or options on Ultra 10-Year futures retain more downside premium relative to other tenors. We have expanded our suite of Treasury options with the addition of Tuesday and Thursday expiries, significantly enhancing the flexibility of short-dated hedging strategies. This update allows market participants to position tactically around high-impact economic releases such as Non-Farm Payrolls, CPI‌ and FOMC decisions, by accessing expiries available every trading day of the week, two weeks forward. This enhancement is especially valuable in environments with compressed risk windows, intraday volatility bursts, or when event timing doesn't align neatly with the traditional Monday/Wednesday/Friday expiration schedule. The change was detailed in CME Group SER-9566R. With the macro spotlight on June 6 and June 18, options on Treasury futures offer deep insight into how rate risk is being repriced. Skews in UXY options, the behavior of TVL‌ and renewed activity in curve-based option structures all point to a market that sees risk beneath the surface. Whether you're watching TVL or the new Tuesday and Thursday expiries, June will be a month to track the message inside the vol surface. Musk vs. Trump drama dominated in D.C., but Germany's Merz quietly walked away with a win

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump was dramatically overshadowed by the U.S. leader's spat with Elon Musk. But it was still seen as a win for Merz. "Being sidelined is not necessarily always a bad thing," Carsten Brzeski, global head of macro at ING, told CNBC on Friday. "In fact, it might have even helped Merz as the Musk distraction was also deviating attention away from more controversial topics. It was a high-stakes trip for Merz, who is just a few weeks into his chancellorship, especially given the treatment other leaders have gotten from Trump in the Oval Office in recent months. As such, Merz is unlikely to be disappointed about the outcome — especially given the potential downsides. "Having avoided an escalation in the Oval Office is already an achievement these days," Brzeski added. Merz arrived in D.C. with a full agenda that ranged from strengthening relations between the U.S. and Germany, to tariffs — which could significantly impact key German industries — as well as U.S. support for Ukraine in its war with Russia and higher NATO defense spending. While we don't know what was discussed behind closed doors, Merz was seemingly able to address most of these points with Trump, political strategist Julius van de Laar told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Friday. "I think what Friedrich Merz got across is that he hopes that the U.S. president will continue to support Ukraine," he said, noting that the issue had gathered momentum recently given several significant attacks. Merz was able to pick up on this, and draw links to the anniversary of D-Day a day after their meeting. "And he said the United States played a great role in ... freeing Europe from the Nazi regime back then, and so he's hoping that Donald Trump will ... say we're going to get engaged again and help Europe become free of dictatorship," van de Laar said. Merz making this point was important in the context of highlighting the U.S-German relationship, according to Jackson Janes, senior resident fellow at the German Marshall Fund. Speaking to CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe," he also pointed out that Trump was gifted his grandfather's birth certificate by Merz, "making the point 'you have a relationship with Germany in your own family.'" Janes also noted that Merz highlighting Germany's plans for higher defense spending would have marked a positive note in the discussion. Germany recently changed its fiscal rules to allow for higher defense spending, and Merz's government seems to be making it a priority. The chancellor has promised a financial push to boost the German military, and the country's foreign minister has suggested support for Trump's proposal that NATO members spend 5% of their gross domestic product on defense. Meanwhile, the sensitive topic of Germany's far-right party, the Alternative fuer Deutschland, was seemingly avoided. Officials in the Trump administration have in recent weeks come out in support of the party after German intelligence services classified it as a "proven right-wing extremist organization." This led to clapbacks from German politicians, with Merz himself warning the U.S. not to get involved. The classification of the AfD is currently on hold amid a legal challenge. All in all, Merz's visit to D.C. was seen as "a home run or a hole in one," van de Laar said. ING's Brzeski also suggested that the trip laid good foundations between the leaders. "There seems to be some common grounds between Trump and Merz, which could be the seeds for a more constructive relationship," he said. Merz even appeared to get some compliments from Trump, with the president commending him for his English skills and saying that while "difficult," the German leader was a "very good man to deal with." Following the meeting, Merz appeared satisfied, saying in a social media post that the atmosphere was "really good," and that the two have much in common. "I am coming back with the feeling that we can speak on the phone any time," he said, according to a CNBC translation. But even an in-person reunion might not be too far off: a Trump trip to Berlin is already being planned, Merz told German media.
