Minister visits PSO House, holds series of high-level meetings
KARACHI: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik accompanied by Zafar Abbas, additional secretary Petroleum, Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), and Director/Deputy Secretary Waqas Ahmed Barlas, visited Pakistan State Oil (PSO) House, Thursday as part of a strategic outreach to key stakeholders in the petroleum sector.
They were received by Chairman of the PSO Board of Management, Asif Baig Mohamed, and Abdus Sami, Chief Supply Chain Officer and currently officiating the managing director's office, PSO, along with senior members of the PSO leadership team.
During the visit, the federal minister held a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening coordination and ensuring operational excellence across the sector.
The minister engaged with PSO's top management to review the company's performance, supply chain resilience, and automation initiatives.
He appreciated PSO for its pivotal role in ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of fuel across the country and the company's ongoing efforts to modernise its infrastructure and diversify its business model, particularly its forward-looking expansion into renewable energy and emerging segments of the energy market.
Malik also met with representatives of the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC), including Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi, secretary general, OCAC, members i.e. ZubairShaikh, CEO, Wafi Energy Pakistan, Zahid Mir, MD Pakistan Refinery Limited and Abdus Sami, Chief Supply Chain Officer, PSO.
The discussions focused on key industry-wide challenges, regulatory developments, and the need for greater policy alignment to ensure a stable and efficient energy supply chain.
In a separate session, the minister met with a delegation from the Petroleum Dealers Association, led by Chairman Abdus Sami Khan, where matters related to dealers' operational challenges and profit margins were brought to the table. The minister assured the dealers that their concerns would be duly considered and addressed through constructive dialogue.
'The government is fully committed to steering Pakistan's energy sector toward greater resilience, sustainability, and innovation. Our focus is on streamlining operations, resolving systemic issues, and fostering a balanced ecosystem that serves consumers and supports economic stability.
Enhancing fuel quality, reducing emissions, and advancing the transition to clean energy are central to this vision.'
'In the best interest of the country, all stakeholders must collaborate with a shared commitment to progress. Together, we can build a modern energy sector that meets the evolving needs of our nation.' Malik added.
The visit marked a significant step toward enhancing sector-wide collaboration and reinforced the government's commitment to a resilient and people-centred energy framework.

PDP for converting Karachi into modern efficient liveable city
KARACHI: Megacity Karachi is one of the least developed megacities of the world and there is a need to convert it into a modern efficient liveable city, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Sunday. He said that the dream of having a liveable city is the old dream of Karachiites, which is yet to be materialized. He said we need Karachi as an efficient modern megacity that offers a high quality of life, sustainability, and opportunities for its residents. He said that Karachi has become a congested city dotted with hundreds of poor slums. Karachiites want affordable and quality housing, with diverse options for different income levels. It needs well-maintained buildings and neighbourhoods, efficient and reliable public transportation, with Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) as its backbone. It also requires reliable, affordable, and well-connected transit systems of buses, bike and bicycle lanes. Better public transport would reduce road congestion and air and noise pollution. Altaf Shakoor said that the megacity has very sparse parks and green spaces, gardens, and recreational areas. He said better safety standards, and lower crime rate is the need of hour. The safe city project is facing an extended delay which is worrisome. The megacity needs effective law enforcement and community policing, besides well-lit streets and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. A city can't be called liveable without better access to quality healthcare and education, well-equipped hospitals and clinics, good schools, universities, and lifelong learning opportunities. He said growing joblessness is a major concern of Karachi. It needs a strong economy & more job opportunities, for which diverse industries and employment options are necessary. He said the government should support small businesses and the fisheries and maritime sector. Shortage of potable water, electricity and gas load shedding are perpetual issues of Karachi, he said, adding clean potable water, stable electricity and gas should be ensured for the Karachiites at top priority, besides well-maintained roads and public facilities. He demanded of the federal and provincial government to allocate ample funds for Karachi in the coming budget to make it a liveable megacity. Modern megacities are self sustainable efficient cities in terms of amenities and resources. Water, electricity and gas should be available to all residents at affordable prices. Circular railways connected with road networks are essential elements of the modern transportation system of smart cities. Resource allocation should be in accordance with organic population growth and migration rate. CM condemns terrorist attack in Surab
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Surab, describing it as an act of aggression carried out under the banner of Fitna-ul-Hindustan. In a statement issued here on Sunday, the CM expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue (ADCR) Hidayat Buledi, who laid down his life in the line of duty while defending the motherland. PIA successfully completes its pre-Hajj operations
KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has successfully completed its pre-Hajj operation that began on April 29 and continued until the night of May 31. During the two-month operation, PIA operated a total of 147 Hajj flights, facilitating the transportation of 42,400 pilgrims to the holy cities of Saudi Arabia, PIA spokesman said. The transported pilgrims included 35,000 government Hajj pilgrims and 4,000 private pilgrims. Additionally, PIA accommodated over 3,000 pilgrims who had been left stranded by other airlines operating within Pakistani airspace. One of the notable achievements of this year's pre-Hajj operation was PIA's flight schedule regularity, which exceeded 90 percent. This high punctuality rate reflects the airline's operational efficiency and commitment to maintaining reliable service during the critical Hajj season.
