Sabahans told to use MyJalan to report road damage
TAWAU (July 18): The use of MYJalan, an application for road users to file complaints regarding road damage, is still low in Sabah, said Deputy Minister of Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
In this regard, he said Sabahans who are facing problems with damaged roads, whether village, state or federal roads, should take advantage of MYJalan to ensure that damaged roads can be repaired immediately.
'There are too few people in Sabah who use the MYJalan application, I hope that they would access MYJalan application to express their dissatisfaction with the implementation of roads.
'We will forward complaints to the responsible parties, if the road involves a tourist area or an agricultural road, we will forward it to the relevant parties, if the road is an urban road, we will forward it to the relevant local authorities,' he said.
He told reporters after reviewing the progress of the construction project of additional Army Forces Family Housing (RKAT) of various classes at Kabota Camp here on Thursday.
Ahmad said that MYJalan, which was developed by the government in 2023, would practise a no wrong door policy system and complaints regarding state, federal and village roads would be forwarded to the relevant parties for further action.
Meanwhile, he said that concession companies that are given the responsibility of maintaining federal roads must ensure that damaged roads, including potholes, are repaired immediately.
'The concessionaires are required to patch any potholes within less than 24 hours, this is the standard operating procedure in the federal road maintenance agreement,' he added.
Ahmad said the Works Ministry would not compromise on road safety and concessionaires must ensure that the road conditions are safe and smooth.-Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Commercial vehicles not equipped with a Speed Limitation Device (SLD) will not be allowed on the roads as they will fail vehicle inspections once the phased enforcement of the system begins on Oct 1. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the implementation of the SLD is a crucial step in controlling the speed of heavy vehicles and reducing the risk of fatal accidents, particularly involving buses and lorries, adding that such systems have long been mandatory in European countries and Singapore. 'Although I am aware that some industry players may push back, citing additional costs and so on, when it comes to ensuring road safety, human lives must take precedence. 'I hope all Yang Berhormat will support the government's efforts to ensure smooth implementation. Any opposition should be addressed by making it clear that safety must take priority over costs and business profits,' he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Dr Richard Rapu @ Aman Begri (GPS-Betong), who asked about the impact of SLD enforcement, its cost and maintenance, the implications of system failure and whether other countries have made SLD mandatory. Loke said the enforcement of SLD installation will be carried out in three phases, beginning this October. Phase 1, starting Oct 1, involves the verification of SLD functionality for all commercial vehicles manufactured after Jan 1, 2015. Phase 2, effective from Jan 1, 2026, involves the activation of SLD within the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for commercial vehicles built before Jan 1, 2015. Phase 3 will require the retrofit installation of SLDs (with approval from the Road Transport Department) on any commercial vehicles not already equipped with the system. This phase will be enforced from July 1, 2026.

Sun Bus Tech Targets Completion Of 310 Rapid KL Buses By February 2026
BUSINESS By Hasnah Jusid JOHOR BAHRU, July 29 (Bernama) -- Johor-based bus body manufacturer, Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd aims to complete 310 Rapid KL buses under a local assembly (Completely Knocked Down-CKD) project with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd by February 2026. Sun Bus Tech chief executive officer Shyan Phang said the project marks a major strategic shift for the company, moving from an export-heavy operation to one with significant domestic focus, in line with government policies to strengthen local assembly and industrial capacity. 'This is our first large-scale domestic project and currently takes up almost 100 per cent of our production capacity, with a target of producing 50 units per month,' she told Bernama during a visit to the company's plant here. The first batch of 10 buses was delivered last month, followed by another 15 units this week. Starting next month, the company will ramp up its deliveries to 40 to 50 units per month, she said. She added that the project is also opening up employment opportunities for locals, as the company works to build a sustainable workforce with local talent. 'We're working closely with TVET institutions in Johor as well as the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) to recruit and train more Malaysians. Our target is to achieve a 90 per cent local workforce in the near future,' she said. Sun Bus Tech is one of the companies that have responded to the Johor state government's call to raise salary levels and develop a future-ready workforce. The company now offers a premium starting salary of RM4,000 for skilled workers.

Etiquette training for cabbies in the works
KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry plans to provide basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), says Anthony Loke ( pic ). The Transport Minister said this is important because the taxi industry is more than just transportation as it represents the heartbeat of public service and serves as the first impression of the country for tourists. He added that the government has also extended the Social Security Organisation contribution incentive from 10% to 30% to safeguard the safety and welfare of taxi drivers. 'These reforms are ongoing, and I will continue to work with this industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of the people,' he posted on Facebook, Bernama reported. Earlier, Loke launched the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association.
