Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 attracts record investment proposals worth Rs 4.22 Lakh Crore: Union Minister Scindia
New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 has garnered unprecedented investment proposals worth Rs 4.22 lakh crore, marking a significant milestone in the region's economic transformation journey, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia announced in an exclusive interview.
The massive investment commitment represents a strong vote of confidence in the North East's economic potential and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of positioning the North Eastern Region (NER) as India's growth engine toward achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Speaking about the comprehensive preparatory efforts, Minister Scindia highlighted the one-year intensive outreach campaign conducted by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in collaboration with all eight NER states.
'We have conducted nine domestic roadshows across key cities, organised Ambassadors' Meet with over 75 countries, and facilitated six state-level roundtables along with six sector-specific interactions,' Scindia said. 'Today, I can proudly say that we have secured investment proposals worth Rs 4.22 lakh crore.'
He said that companies such as Aditya Birla Group, ITC Group, Adani Group, and Ambani Group will be present.
He also said that companies from 75 countries, including France, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Italy, will attend the summit.
The Minister underlined that the region's rich culture, natural wealth, and strategic location make it a vital component of India's Act East policy, positioning it as a gateway to Southeast Asian markets.
The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 was designed with three primary objectives: unveiling the investment potential of the North East, facilitating collaboration between industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, and building a comprehensive roadmap for growth in the manufacturing and services sectors.
The summit's success is underpinned by robust institutional mechanisms. Operational Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) are now functional in six states, with the remaining two states' IPAs currently underway. Additionally, eight Chief Minister-led High-Level task forces have been established to develop sectoral strategies across agriculture and allied sectors, sports, investment promotion, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles, handlooms and handicrafts, and animal husbandry and poultry.
The government has also mapped logistics readiness across an 11-point framework, ensuring comprehensive preparedness for incoming investments.
The summit facilitated extensive bilateral engagements with chambers of commerce, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and corporate entities. The event structured over 100 business meeting slots, creating opportunities for meaningful B2G (Business-to-Government) and B2B (Business-to-Business) interactions.
Roundtables and workshops brought together diverse stakeholders, including state representatives, foreign investor delegations, startups, corporations, and chambers of commerce, fostering an ecosystem of collaboration and partnership.
Minister Scindia's announcement underscores the government's commitment to transforming the North East from a traditionally underdeveloped region into a dynamic economic hub. If materialised, the Rs 4.22 lakh crore investment commitment could significantly alter the region's economic landscape and contribute substantially to India's overall GDP growth.
The success of the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 demonstrates the effectiveness of systematic outreach, policy alignment, and stakeholder engagement in attracting large-scale investments to emerging regions.
According to a release, over 2,000 high level delegates, policymakers, industry leaders, investors, multilaterals and start-ups will take part in discussions across nine plus priority sectors such as agri, food processing and allied sectors; textiles, handloom and handicrafts; entertainment and sports; education and skill development; healthcare; IT and ITES; tourism and hospitality; infrastructure and logistics, and energy.
A high-level delegation comprising senior officials from Assam will make a strong presence at the summit. Being a major State and a gateway to the Northeast, Assam will showcase its inherent strengths in key sectors as well as emerging sectors with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma leading from the front. Painting believed to be only one Mahatma Gandhi sat for going under hammer at Bonhams
TOI correspondent from London : An oil portrait believed to be the only painting Mahatma Gandhi ever sat for is going under the hammer at Bonhams in July with an estimate of £50,000-£70,000 (Rs 58 lakh to Rs 81 lakh. ) It is the first time this portrait has ever been sold at auction as it remained in British artist Clare Leighton's collection until her death in 1989, after which it was passed down through her family. Leighton, reputed for her wooden engravings, was introduced to Gandhi when he visited London in 1931 to attend the Second Round Table Conference. At the time, she was in a relationship with political journalist Henry Noel Brailsford, who was a passionate supporter of Indian Independence. He had travelled to India in 1930 where he met key Independence figures. Afterwards he published the book 'Rebel India', met Gandhi in London in 1931 and introduced Leighton to him. She became one of very few artists admitted to his office and was given the opportunity to sit with him to sketch and paint him in 1931. In Nov 1931 Leighton showcased her portraits at the Albany Galleries in London. The following month, Gandhi's personal secretary, Mahadev Desai, wrote a letter to Leighton, a copy of which is attached to the backing board, which reads: 'It was such a pleasure to have had you here for many mornings doing Mr Gandhi's portrait.' According to the artist's family, the portrait was on public display in 1974 when it was allegedly attacked with a knife by a Hindu right-wing activist. The catalogue entry states: 'We have found no documentation to corroborate this, but the painting shows signs of restoration to what appears to be repaired tears in several places. A label attached to the backing board confirms the painting was restored in 1974 by the Lyman Allyn Museum Conservation Laboratory. ' 'There is nothing comparable to this painting in existence as it was painted in his lifetime and was a painting that he sat for on multiple occasions,' Rhyanon Demery, head of sale, told TOI. The auction takes place from 7 to 15 July.

Encroachments removed from Sindhi Camp bus stand
Jaipur: Anti-encroachment committee of JMC-Heritage Wednesday conducted a drive to remove encroachments from Sindhi Camp bus stand, the busiest bus terminal in the city. More than two dozen illegal carts were confiscated, and encroachments made on the road outside shops were removed, officials said. Manoj Mudgal, chairperson of the anti-encroachment committee, said, "Many people had encroached upon the bus stand, due to which operation of buses was disturbed and passengers and drivers were facing problems. We first tried to explain to local traders to remove the encroachments, but, despite our efforts, the encroachments were not cleared. Action was finally taken by the civic body today." Mudgal added that main roads and intersections in the Walled City will also be made encroachment-free. "This will not only make the traffic system in Jaipur smooth, but domestic and foreign tourists visiting will be able to see the beauty of the Pink City in a better way," he said. Meanwhile, JMC-Greater removed temporary encroachments from Pankaj Singhvi Marg, Fortis Hospital, JLN Marg, near Jawahar Circle Police Station, Nandpuri Underpass, Sanganer Bazaar, City Bus Stand, Malpura Gate, and surrounding areas on Wednesday. Two canters of goods were seized and sent to the warehouse, and a carrying charge of Rs 10,000 was collected on the spot from the encroachers, officials said.

Major infra upgrade starts at city airport's terminal 2
Jaipur: Jaipur International Airport has commenced 14 projects with an investment of over Rs 600 crore for infrastructure development and upgrade at Terminal 2, officials said Tuesday. This is being done in view of the increasing passenger load at the airport, they said. Officials stated that 15,000 square meters of expansion will significantly enhance the capacity of the existing terminal. Currently, the terminal has 39 check-in counters, and 24 new counters are planned to be added. This will reduce waiting time for passengers to a large extent. "These projects collectively aim to elevate the infrastructure of Jaipur airport, ensuring it meets international benchmarks and provides an enhanced travel experience," said the airport's spokesperson. In addition to new check-in counters, the airport is also adding eight self-baggage drop (SBD) counters. The security screening process will be enhanced with nine new X-ray baggage inspection system (XBIS) machines. An automative tray retrieval system is also being added at the terminal. "This increase will enable fast and thorough screening of baggage. Boarding gates are also being increased from six to 10. Two new entry gates will be added, taking the total number to six. The installation of two new aero bridges on the second floor of Terminal 2 will facilitate easier boarding and deboarding of passengers and will reduce the turnaround time," added the official.
