CM lays stones for six road projects worth Rs 766.73 cr in city
The six projects include four roads, a flyover and an underground drain-cum-road. Three separate functions were held to lay the foundation stones. The first function was held near Patna AIIMS roundabout, the second one near Kothwan Rupaspur canal and the third one on Nehru Path below the Patli road.
"The roads, whose foundation stones have been laid, are not only meant to ease the traffic movement in the western Patna that is developing fast, but also provide smooth movement of traffic from J P Setu, Patliputra station, Danapur, Gola Road, Saguna Mor, Naubatpur, Khagaul and Patna AIIMS localities towards Biharsharif," the CM said on the occasion.
"They will also give a boost to economic activities and social development in the entire area, as it has been developing fast," he added, and asked the officials to ensure that the projects were completed in time.
Among those who accompanied the CM on the occasion were deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and MLC Rabindra Kumar Singh, as well as CM's principal secretary Deepak Kumar, development commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, CM's secretary Kumar Ravi, road construction department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudukalkatti, Patna division commissioner Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna DM Thyagarajan SM and SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, among others.
At the AIIMS roundabout function, the CM laid the stone for the widening and strengthening of the two-lane 10.5 km Patna AIIMS-Janipur-Painapur Nev road, which would involve expenditure of Rs 138.50 crore. The foundation stone for a flyover to be constructed at Naubatpur Lakh with an investment of Rs 73.06 crore was also laid.
At the second function held on Kathwan Rupaspur canal, the CM laid the foundation stone for the construction of 6.9 km four-lane road to provide a link to the Khagaul-Nehru Path, Ashok Rajpath and Rupaspur canal road.
It would involve an expenditure of Rs 71.48 crore.
The third function was held below Patli Path. From here, the CM laid the foundation stones for a group of three projects. One of them is the construction of a link road to connect Digha-AIIMS-Patli road with Nehru Path on the side of Danapur, which will be completed with an investment of Rs 148.86 crore.
The second is construction of an underground drainage facility-cum-road on both the sides of 2.7 km from Rupaspur canal and Saguna Mor up to Nehru Path, whose completion would require an investment of Rs 318.51 crore. The third project related to widening and strengthening of the 2.20 km road between Nehru Path and Gola road will be completed at an expenditure of Rs 21.35 crore.

Madras HC to hear today plea against Chennai corporation's private sanitation contract
The Madras High Court will on Tuesday hear a petition opposing the Greater Chennai Corporation's decision to hand over sanitation work in two city zones to a private contractor -- a move that has triggered intense protests from workers. On June 16, the Corporation awarded a Rs 276 crore cleaning services contract for Zones 5 and 6 to a private firm. The Workers' Rights Movement, led by its president K. Bharathi, moved the High Court seeking to quash the resolution, arguing that the decision threatens the livelihood and job security of thousands of workers. According to the petition, 2,242 permanent workers are to be transferred to other zones, while 1,953 temporary workers will be brought under the contractor's control. The petitioner contends that these employees will be subject to the contractor's terms, risking arbitrary dismissal, lower wages, and loss of benefits. It is further alleged that the outsourcing decision was made without mandatory approval from the labour court, despite a related case being sub judice. The move has sparked more than 10 days of continuous demonstrations outside the Corporation's Ripon Building headquarters, with sanitation workers and unions demanding that the contract be cancelled. Protesters accuse the civic body of ignoring their pleas and prioritising commercial considerations over employee welfare. When the matter came up on Monday, Advocate General P.S. Raman, representing the Corporation, requested additional time to submit a revised counter-affidavit. He said corrections had been made to an earlier version, and the updated document required the Commissioner's signature before filing. The petitioner's counsel opposed any further delay, telling the court that 'nearly 2,000 workers have been thrown out like garbage' and were in urgent need of relief. The counsel stressed that prolonging the process would deepen the hardship of those affected. After hearing both sides, the court directed that the matter be listed for hearing on Tuesday and ordered the Corporation to file its reply without fail. The case's outcome could have far-reaching consequences for the city's approach to sanitation management and the future of public sector jobs in the civic workforce.

Rs 3,200 cr crop insurance disbursed to farmers under PMFBY in Jhunjhunu
Jaipur: RajasthanChief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Monday, released Rs 3,200 crore as insurance claim amount to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) The amount was transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 30 lakh farmers across several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, during a ceremony held at the Jhunjhunu airstrip. The event began with a special welcome for the dignitaries, where CM Sharma and Union Minister Chouhan were presented bouquets made from millets. By pressing a button, the Chief Minister and Union Agriculture Minister initiated the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for the first installment of insurance claims for the Rabi 2024-25 and Kharif 2024 seasons. Symbolic cheques were also distributed to beneficiaries of various schemes. Union Minister Chouhan announced that crop insurance claims worth Rs 3,200 crore were being disbursed to farmers nationwide from Jhunjhunu, providing much-needed relief to PMFBY beneficiaries. Since the formation of the state government till July 2025, Rajasthan alone has paid crop insurance claims worth Rs 3,912.53 crore to 148 lakh eligible policyholder farmers. Addressing the gathering, CM Sharma said that more than Rs 1,200 crore had been distributed for farmers in the state. Calling them the 'soul, pride, and honor' of the nation, the Chief Minister accused the previous Congress government of neglecting the welfare of farmers in the state. He alleged that Congress used the slogan 'Garibi Hatao' only for votes and failed to fulfill promises such as bringing Yamuna water to the region. The Chief Minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, an agreement with Haryana for Yamuna water had been signed, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) underway and a task force formed. 'In the coming time, the people of Shekhawati will definitely get Yamuna water,' he added. On this occasion, under the State-wise Crop Insurance Distribution, farmers in Madhya Pradesh received Rs 1,156 crore, Rajasthan Rs 1,121 crore, Chhattisgarh Rs 150 crore and other states had a share of Rs 773 crore. State Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena has said that the state government had taken strict action against the sale of fake fertilisers and seeds, seizing large quantities and registering multiple FIRs.
